  1. The match up of the year in the 9th? Maybe the best match up in Boone County.
  2. The difference here is that we arn't talking about professional athletes. We are talking about high school athletics. These girls' approach to the games is probably a little different than Eli Manning's or Tony Romo's.
  3. No I'm not kidding about a must win. Conner is 17-1 right now with its’ only lost to Highlands. A loss tonight would obviously make them 17-2 with two losses to Highlands. I think it would be tough for Conner from a psychological perspective to beat Highlands in the regional tournament after losing to them twice in the regular season. Certainly Conner is capable of beating Highlands on any given night, but if I'm Conner's coach I want a victory over Highlands tonight not to add another victory to what has already been an impressive season, but for a psychological boost going into the regional tournament. If you're a prize fighter and you're only two losses are against your opponent in your upcoming fight don't you think you might not be as confident in that third fight. Worse yet don't you think your opponent's confidence level is going to be sky high. If Conner loses to Highlands tonight they will have a very hard time beating them in the regional tournament if the two teams meet. So when I say it is a must win don’t look at it from a wins-losses perspective, but from a psychological perspective, which is huge when you're talking about high school girls basketball.
  4. I think this is a must win for the Cougars.
  5. If Highlands and Conner win tonight they will play each other in the Championship on Saturday. That will be a good game and a game Conner really needs to win.
  6. It looks as if Mason County needs to move their feet more on defense.
  7. This was a good game. Chambers guarded Towles some of the night. I didn't understand why they didn't try to have her guard her the whole evening.
  8. Don't know a lot about Mason County other than their teams are generally very good and they have a girl who's maybe going to Dayton to play. If Highlands can establish a presence down low they might be alright. It should be a very good game.
  9. The real score of the game was 59-46 Montgomery County and they did not pull away in the third quarter. Highlands actually won the third quarter 11 to 5 and had a lead going into the fourth quarter. Montgomery County had a big run in the 4th quarter to win the game. Highlands had a great chance to beat the top 5th or 6th ranked team in the state, but you gotta play all four quarers. Not sure where the prior two post got their information.
  10. Highlands beat the number one team in the region the other night and received a very small write up while they treated the NC v. Holy Cross All A game like the NCAA finals. Overall I think they've done an ok job and have been pretty fair.
  11. There have been several post this basketball season about teams being for real. Well Highlands is for real and in my opinion is the hottest team in the 9th region right now. Over the last three games against Conner, Boone and Ryle, Sophmore Center Bekah Towles and Senior forward Alex Adler have averaged 30 points a game between them. Katie Allen is running the show and really has been the real catalyst behind the team's improvement. Junior guard Natalie Horner has really decimated teams this year with clutch three point shooting. Sam Messmer the junior forward has been doing the dirty work inside often rebounding over players much taller. They've been doing all of this with Mallory Adler sidelined with an injury. Mallory is arguably the best defender in the region and will contribute significantly down the stretch. I certainly dont think they're the clear cut favorite to win the 9th, but they have as good as chance as any. Good luck Birds.
  12. The Enquirer did a nice job this morning in its coverage of the game. You can tell there was a lot of effort put in to writing the "paragraph". This team is coming together and has a great chance of traveling to Western Kentucky in March. Am anxious to see how they play against Montgomery County this Saturday.
  13. In the paper it appeared the bigger girls from Highlands played pretty well. That will need to continue if they're going to beat Boone on Monday night.
  14. I would like to offer some friendly advice to Covington Cathoilc. First of all the young man who wears number 40 for CC expended way to much energy in warm ups. He must have dunked the ball ten times. He doesn't do it easily, which causes him to expend a tremendous amount of energy in his legs. Take it easy big fella and save yourself. Secondly dont try to pick up McGraw and Simpson at half court. That spelled disaster for CC. So goes McGraw so goes Highlands. He was clearly the best athlete on the court last night.
  15. Does Ryle have a dominating pitcher?
  16. Yes, you are right on the redundancy. If I would have known the grammar in my post was going to be scrutinized like a thesis statement I would have edited more carefully. A transfer from another school is not automatically allowed to play. I’m sure you were already aware of that.:thumb:
  17. If the kid that is transferring from another school is allowed to play the Bird's stock rises very quickly. Two excellent pitchers can do wonders in a regional tournament.
  18. Hamilton Joe you are a great fan and if other schools had such supportive fans their programs would be better.:thumb:
  19. If Highlands plays Simon Kenton again it will be in the state tournament in March. I'm not sure how you come to your conclusion that Simon Kenton wins by 20. It’s doubtful the game will be called by 8th region officials and there probably won't be a 29-12 free throw disparity. I'm not sure if that is exactly what the difference was, but it was close to that. To say that Highlands won't make a run at the 9th region title in March based upon a 10-point loss to an 8th region team in December under those circumstances doesn't make a lot of sense. Who in the 9th is better? The only team you can probably say is better is Boone County. Remember last year's region when Highlands was in the semi-finals. They were a half away, though a big half from reaching the finals, which would have been against Holmes or NC, two teams they beat handedly earlier. Given the circumstances of this year with Boone County losing key players, NC losing their division one player and Notre Dame losing the two girls that shouldered most of the work against Highlands last year, I don't see how you can say with a straight face that Highlands is a year away from making a run at the 9th region tournament. Your statement quite frankly defies logic especially since Highlands has their same team back.
  20. This should be a pretty good game. If Highlands can push the tempo they'll have a chance.
  21. C'mon...who recruited rondo and morris??? Tubby...If those two would have stayed it would be this lineup... Rondo, Bradley, Crawford, Patterson, Morris....thats a national championship team...You cant blame Tubby for those two leaving ...
