  1. In the post I said several, when I mentioned group I was referring to those 4 players who were on that AAU team, three of which I think are starters. There are actually four on the team. Sorry for the confusion.
  2. I think Highlands is capable of beating anybody in this tournament and are probably the most dangerous team in the tournament. These freshman and sophmores playing for Highlands are not your typical freshman and sophmores and shouldn't be afforded excuses for their youth. Several of them have been playing together for years all over the southeastern part of the country. Together as a group they won the KY AAU State Championship three years in a row, beating the better teams in the state by thirty points. No, I'm not saying this is the year they're going to win the state tournament, but I'll be suprised if this team doesn't take home a state championship over the course of the next three years. If the Birds get by NDA or Boone look out, though it will be a very tall order to get by those two teams. (Both are sound programs) Ludlow is a good draw for them.
  3. I agree with you about Conner, but Holmes I'm not so sure about. Highlands beat Holmes by 15 less than a month ago I think. Conner recently handled Highlands though most of the game was competitve, but a 34 point Conner victory over Holmes less than a month ago is pretty strong.
  4. I guess you'll find out Monday evening. That's not a good draw for either team.
  5. If I heard correctly on Monday night at 6:00pm Notre Dame plays Boone Co. (Nothing like having the main event as your first fight) At 7:40 Highlands plays Ludlow. The winners of each game square off next.
  6. Highlands has some young talent that gave a glimpse of what is to come. Coach Ritchie had them well prepared.
  7. Now that the drawing is complete. It will probably be a NC v. Highlands final with NC the probable favorite.
  8. I will have to soundly disagree with my friends who say basketball is more physical in the lexington area than in the 9th region. I grew up and played in Lexington and though it's certainly better basketball, it's not more physical. The 9th region style of play rewards thuggery instead of great basketball talent. I've seen very good, skilled basketball players in this region marginalized because some football player impersonating as a basketball player grabbs, holds and shoves him all over the court. Up here he's a great defensive player. In the state tournament he's watching because he's fouled out. There is a reason for the lack of state titles in basketball from the 9th region. Obviousley I'm referring to boys, but the same incompetent refs that do boys games also do girls games.
  9. Not overly suprised by this, though the margin of victory is more than I thought it would be. I've seen Montgomery County play a couple of times this year. They truly play as a team.
  10. In order to win the state tournament in basketball you have to very good. If you're able to jump that hurdle there has to be some cohesiveness on your team, which means playing tough games and maturing as players and young men together. Sad to say it's not going to happen this year for Holmes. I take no pleasure in saying this. This is one of the most unfortunate situations I've seen in Kentucky High School basketball.
  11. Three of the seniors didn't hardly play at all last night. One is 6'5 and the other 6'7. The third is a guard. Out of the five seniors on the team only one regularly gets significant minutes.
  12. I think she plays some at the freshman level.
  13. I'm sure there is young talent in other areas of the state, but Northern Kentucky seems loaded with talented freshman.
  14. I saw Woodford County play a Highlands team comprised of mainly freshman and sophmores and lose by 19. For Rose Hill to come out of there with only a 1 point win doesn't look good for them at all.
  15. Colonel Fan, thanks for prediction that Highlands will school 81 points. I dont think they've scored 81 points the entire year. I cant recall the last time I saw a team with a total of 10 points for the entire half. Highlands v. Dixie (last night).
  16. Wise is 6'6" and Kruse is 6'8" They arent the main contributers, McGraw and Stein get most of the boards
  17. Highlands held about a 10-15 point lead throughout the game and pulled away near the end.
  18. I didn't see the game, but someone told me it was rather close in the beginning.
  19. I assume Mcauley must be one of top ranked teams in the state.
  20. Might as well put Boone's name on the regional championships trophy. Loaded with talent, as well as having the best coach in the region. It will now be just a matter of playing out the season to see who finishes 2nd Wow these are pretty bold comments. I actually saw several of Boone County's players play this summer. I dont think I would start painting the town red just yet. A bunch of OJ Mayo's they are not. Your comments are more applicable to a Scott County or Lexington Catholic who I also saw play this summer. I'm sure Boone will have a very good team, but to dominate in the manner you indicate is unlikely.
  21. Highlands is going to be tougher than people think this year. Playing Boone NC or Highlands this year is going to be tough.
