  1. The technical foul call was lame. Don't know what the official was thinking. Bobby was just trying to give a foul to stop the clock. Very bad call. The Bulldogs played very well all weekend. I had a chance to see a couple of their games this weekend. Montgomery looked pretty good for not playing a whole lot this summer. He should really help the Bulldogs the rest of the AAU season. Bobby is almost an automatic double-double. He works so hard around the basket. I was very impressed with Matty Trammell's ability to shoot the 3. The Bulldogs play very well together, good group of kids. Northern Kentucky had a great representation. Almost all of the kids from the Bulldogs are from Northern Kentucky and a majority of the players from the Price team are also from the same area. These kids know each other very well. Jake Thelan (17pts) Kellen Smith (8 assists) and Kevin Shaw (12pts) had nice games against the bulldogs. Jake really got them off to a nice start in the first quarter with his play and Kevin Shaw made some key baskets down the stretch. The Shining Star Sports-Price team is going to continue to get better every week. Coach Price does a great job with his teams and they usually get better and better as the year goes on. They have a nice inside game with Jake Thelan, Jake Geisler and Trevan Brown. Solid point guard play with Kellen Smith and Chris Taylor and great scorers with Scott Schuette and Kevin Shaw. Kevin Shaw really impressed me all weekend with his play. He has been a great addition to Coach Price's team and gives them a great combo with Shaw and Schuette. I really look for good things to come for the Shining Star Sports-Price team and the Bulldogs.
  2. Remy Abell would have to be the MVP of this tournament in the 17u age group. He was amazing all weekend. In the 6 games he scored a total of 165 points (27.5 per game) while shooting 67% from the field. He was also one of the best defenders all weekend. He plays with amazing energy and focus.
  3. Robbie really gutted it out this weekend. He tried to play Saturday and got sick and had to leave. Sunday he really wanted to do what he could to help and played pretty well for dragging as much as he did. Great kid with a great attitude.
  4. He actually played his best basketball in two of the tighter games. He had 19 points against the BA Hoyas and did a good job defending Marks from Eastern. He also had 18 points in the championship game against Charlotte Court. I think he will only get better the more he plays with this group. He was still learning a lot about what Coach Davis wanted to get done.
  5. Just for the record, I was the non-coach sitting on the bench talking to one of the players from KY Select. Hatton and I had been messing around with each other all day. We were just having fun with each other. Their was no disrespect. I have nothing but good things to say about this young man. I sat with Hatton after that game and watched another game with him. He is a great kid and a great player. The KY Select team is doing some amazing things and are very fun to watch. They have some very talented kids that really understand how to play the game. James as always is doing a great job with the kids.
  6. Kimbro has planned on playing with Coach Davis for a while. He just returned last week from school and this weekend was the first weekend he was available to play. He was a much needed body for this weekend. Tony is a very talented player and fit in very well.
  7. That is a ridiculous statement. Each of our coaches are responsible for posting their scores. Some are missing and have not been reported. Some coaches are better than others at getting them up but not one of them is posting only wins and not recording losses. The team that was mentioned earlier is missing a whole tournament of scores. Wins and losses. What team have you noticed padding their record?? I don't believe that is the case with any of our teams. I do wish that our coaches would do a better job of getting everything up. A lot of people visit the website and I would love to have all of the information up to date and correct. But I don't believe for one second that any of our coaches are padding their records.
  8. Sports Guy, you are right about the white teams record. The scores from the Dayton tournament have not been posted by the coach. But it wasn't done to be misleading. Some of my coaches have not posted all of their scores. For example the Black team has only posted 2 scores so far. They are one of the better teams we have but the coach hasn't taken the time to post scores. Like everyone else we want to go into the state tournament with the best roster possible. The reallity of AAU basketball is that your roster goes through a lot of changes during the season. Kids come and go because of proms, family, injury and changing teams. It would be really nice to be able to go through an entire AAU season with one group of kids but it doesn't happen very often. Roman Empire is talking about when we moved a player from one of our Ohio teams to play with McFarland in the state tournament a couple of years ago. Was that done to improve our chances of winning? Of course it was. That player also played the July NCAA schedule with Coach McFarland because he improved the chances of our kids competing. We are trying to put the best teams together that we possibly can just like everyone else. We move a lot of kids around when we get to the July schedule. A lot of kids have football that starts up and are unable to play during the July evaluation period. We may combine teams, move players around or make additions to give our teams the ability to play through the NCAA evalution process. We believe this to be one of the advantages of having a lot of teams in the orginization. Another reason you see a lot of kids added to rosters at the state tournament is becuase of baseball and soccer. Players like Ryan Fucci have been playing baseball most of the spring and will be playing for the first time this weekend. Fucci is a great player and will be a great addition for Coach Davis. I expect a lot of teams will make additions for this weekends state tournament. I want to see the best of the best. It should be a great weekend of basketball. Good luck to everyone!!
  9. This should be a great weekend of basketball. But I think that everyone is making a big mistake thinking that the Shining Star-Davis team is down. They have played in some very good tournaments and played with a very short bench. This will be the first weekend that they are at full strength. Adding Ryan Fucci will be a big addition. I would still consider them to be the team to beat this weekend.
  10. The SS-Ky team has played very well so far this year. The team is off to an 18 win and 3 loss start. Jake Geisler, Scott Schuette and Kellen Smith are having a very good summer. The addition of Kevin Shaw, Jake Thelan and Walter Alexander have made this team even more talented. I expect them to be in the mix with a chance to win the championship.
  11. The Shining Star Sports-Davis team played very well this morning. They were edged out by the Indiana Elite team by a score of 61 to 58.
  12. Just got done speaking with Austin Flannery. He informed me that he has committed to Asbury College to play basketball next year. Austin was part of the Shining Star Sports-McFarland 2009 AAU State Championship team. Congrats to Austin and his family!!
  13. They need to set the Kentucky state tournament up the same way as Ohio does. The first weekend is the Division I state tournament. Everyone plays and competes for a state championship. If you do not qualify in the Division I state tournament you can play in the Division II the following weekend. I have never understood why Kentucky does Division I and II on the same weekend.
  14. There are no limitations to coaching kids from any school other than the school you coach at.
  15. Shining Star Sports-Davis opens their season next weekend in Nashville Tennessee playing in String Music Showcase. Shining Star Sports-Kentucky (Coached by Mike Price) will be in Indianapolis playing in the Indiana Spring Classic.
  16. Coach Price lets the kids coach against each other anytime two of our teams play against each other. Unless it is an NCAA certified event. The teams practice together. Run the same sets and defense. They know each other very well. It has worked very well. The kids really take pride in coaching. They learn a lot about time management, substitution patterns, etc.. Coach Price has been doing that for a lot of years.
  17. Thanks for the feedback. The changes have now been made and proper names given to the teams. Sometimes the tournaments take it upon themselves to use their own version of the name. Mike Price is currently the head coach of the Kentucky team. http://www.sssbasketball.com
  18. Coach Price just finalized his roster for the Shining Star Sports-Price 17u team. http://www.sssbasketball.com Scott Schuette- Lexington Catholic Kevin Shaw- Seneca Walter Alexander- Seneca Kellen Smith- Scott High School Jake Giesler- Newport Central Catholic Jake Thelen- Covington Catholic Antone Warren- Fern Creek Cam Lee- Lakota East Josh Karsner- Home Schooled Nick Gray- Simon Kenton DeVonte Bradley- Cooper Trevan Brown- Boone County They will open their season next week at the Bearcat Classic at the University of Cincinnati.
  19. A lot of high school coaches just enjoy coaching. It is of great advantage to have high school coaches coaching in AAU programs. The kids receive legitimate coaching by experienced coaches. In the Shining Star Sports program we have a number of high school coaches that coach teams that do not have any of their players on the team: Jeff Davis of Simon Kenton High School Todd Downs of Boone County High School Kevin Bundy of Bishop Brossart High School Mike Price of Oak Hills High School Robert Moman of Walnut Hills High School Willie Hill of Seven Hills High School The coaches love teaching the game and don't have any problem with working with kids outside of their programs. They are not interested in having the players transfer or move to their schools. Most of these coaches are very tight with the other high school coaches and want to represent themselves in a very positive light. Not interested in playing games with the kids. Most high school coaches enjoy having their kids involved in a program with high school coaches involved. They feel comfortable about the coaching that their players receive.
  20. How many of the top Northern Kentucky players will be playing summer basketball? Where will they be playing? What tournaments will they be attending?
  21. Jordan Gilbert has decided to play with Coach VanHoose of Derek Smith All Stars. Jordan had a fantastic two seasons with the Shining Star Sports program. Jordan felt it was time for him to make a change. Great pickup for Coach VanHoose and the Derek Smith program.
  22. Shining Star Sports-Davis will not open the season until the weekend of the 23rd. They will be playing in Nashville at the String Music Classic. Shining Star Sports-Price will be opening the season at the Bearcat Classic on the weekend of the 16th. Shining Star Sports-Downs 16u team will be at the Cincinnati Knights tournament next weekend. Shining Star Sports-Bundy 15u team will be opening at the Bearcat Classic on the weekend of the 16th.
  23. Coach Pittman's team from last year will be coached by Coach Mike Price who is the head coach at Oak Hills High School in Cincinnati. Mike has been one of the top AAU coaches for a number of years and one of the better coaches in the business. Coach Pittman will continue to support the team but has decided to step down to spend more time working with his son and daughter. He is coaching a very talented 13u girls team during the AAU season. A number of the players from last years team will continue to play with Coach Price. Scott Schuette, Kellen Smith, Jake Geisler, Trevan Brown and Devonte Bradley. They have also added Kevin Shaw and Walter Alexander from Seneca High School and Jake Thelan from Covington Catholic High School. Coach Price should have a very talented team. Zeke Pike is playing with the 16u team coached by Todd Downs of Boone County High School.
  24. It is only two. Three years ago NCC beat Cov Cath in the championship game.
