Having grown up in the middle of Ohio, and playing on just about every level, I think the main advantage is the feeder systems almost all schools have established. While it's not true in every case, most kids at the High school level in Ohio have been using the same systems from Pop Warner through their career. It's not because anyone cheats, the little leaguers coaching staffs all try to make things as compatible as possible with the HS programs. I began using the same basic terminology, and playbook when I was 8 years old--albeit on a very dilluted level--as I used all through my career until I graduated. That's 9 years of running the same offense, and defense. That may be an extreme case, but most Ohio kids have the same basic experience. When you have that kind of mindset, and commitment for so many years, success is just a byproduct. Kentucky has the same thing in place, but it's for basketball.

As always BGP members get the information before it's actually broadcast... This week's KNN Scoreboard/Bluegrass Preps.com player of the week is Fern Creek RB JIMMY WELCH. In a great all around performance, Jimmy had 245 rushing on 20 carries for 3 TD's. He also had 140 yards in returns, and 38 yards receiving, including one TD catch for a total of 4 TD's in the game. He racked up 423 total yards in the Tiger's win over Seneca. Congratulations Jimmy on a great effort!

We'll also feature a report on Graves County - Mayfield.

Just a quick preview for you guys on this week's show. we're expecting game reports from Rockcastle County-Bell County St. X-Male East Carter-Mason County and we're hoping to nail down one from Owensboro-Davies County too I also expect several more too.

This is a first--but not the last time, I'll be doing this. Since you folks are the people who nominate our Player Of The Week candidates each week, I think it's only fair that you all find out the winner first too. This week's KNN Scoreboard Show/ Bluegrass Preps.com Player of the week is Ryan Phillippi, a 6'/175 lb. quarterback from Lexington Henry Clay. Ryan had a huge night last week, as he was 16-27 passing for 255 yards, two touchdowns, including the 28 yard game winner with 13.6 seconds left. Ryan also rushed for 224 ards on 22 carries and scored three touchdowns in Henry Clay's 47-43 win at Boyle County.

Sadly, they don't win anything except the respect, and recognition they get from our show. But--they do get a letter suitable for framing.

I'd love to do that, but it's only a 20 minute show, so I have a time issue. It's just not really possible.

I'm all for it. If you can get blocking grades for a kid, and they're verified by coaches...post them up! If a kid grades out at 100% or has a bunch or pancake blocks--he certainly deserves a mention!

It was a very tough choice, but this week's KNN/Bluegrass Preps.com Player of the Week is Pulaski County QB Chris Muse. In a 62-49 win over Somerset, Chris accounted for 340 total yards with 248 rushing and 5 of 10 passing for 92 yards with 1 TD. Muse also scored 6 TDs rushing with runs of 19,46,25,25, 71, and 29 yards. Start posting nominees for next week as soon as you can!

We anticipate game reports from the Bowling Green-Trinity matchup, along with Marshall County-Hopkinsville, Wayne County-Rockcastle County, Pikeville-Ashland Blazer, and Lexington Catholic-Scott County. Make sure to inform your local radio stations they can contribut reports anytime. They don't need to be KNN affiliates or even carry the show. We love having 30 second to 1 minute long reports to run each week. Stations can call in the reports to 502-479-2207, and record them diretly into the voice mail system. This week our KNN Scoreboard Show/BGP.com Player Of The Week is Michael Vickers He had 199 yards rushing and 1 TD. 69 yards receiving and 2 TD's. 55 yards on special teams. 323 yards of total offense.

For what it's worth, I've been doing the KNN Scoreboard Show for 5 seasons, and prior to this year, no Kicker was ever named player of the week. This season it happened twice. Both times it was Shane Popham. Kentucky should be looking at this kid too. He could seriously upgrade thier kicking game just by walking on the field.

This story just hit the AP wire.... Football players banished for rest of year DANVILLE, Ky. (AP) --The Danville High School administration is investigating four students in connection with an incident in a school parking lot. Principal Win Smith says the students were all members of the high school football team. Danville plays Newport Central Catholic Friday for the Class A state championship. Smith cited ``confidentiality requirements'' in declining to name the students or describe the nature of the incident. It was reported in Sunday's Danville Advocate newspaper that four members of the football team were suspended from the team for the remainder of the year. Officials have not acknowledged the suspensions had any connection with last Friday morning's incident. Coach Sam Harp confirmed after a semi-final game last Friday night that he had suspended four players for disciplinary reasons. The players are all under the age of 18. I've seen both teams this season once. Both times late in the year. Based upon what I've seen, and the way each has played in the past couple of games... Central 31 BG 30 Possibly the best game as far as matchup that we'll see this post season.

Having played in the Ohio State Playoffs, and covered playoffs in two other states, I can tell you that none of them routinely play at college fields. Ohio does allow higher seeds to host first round games, but not after that. They are played on neutral HIGH SCHOOL Fields. With the finals at a Columbus Stadium. I believe it's been both at Ohio Stadium, and Columbus Crew Stadium. The finals have rotated as well. They've been held at various times in Dayton, and Canton. As for West Virginia, they allow playoff games to be hosted right up to the finals if you're the higher seed. The finals in W.Va. have rotated from Mountaineer Field in Morgantown, to Laidley Field in Charleston, and I think they are now at Wheeling Island Stadium. Again, no games other than the finals are located at college fields. BUT--Your field MUST be certified by the WV Sanctioning Body as playoff approved. That's the same in Ohio.....That includes seating capacity, locker room avails and a bunch more stuff. As a result, lots of WV and Ohio teams move their home playoff games to a nearby approved site, which may include college fields. I personally LOVE the chance for a team to host all the way through. It rewards them for a great season, and allows fans who can't travel to see the local boys at home. One thing to note. There are some instances where high schools and colleges do share home fields. In those instances, schools are allowed in both Ohio, and West Virginia to host at home.

This week's Player of the Week is LaRue County running back Justin Thurman. Last week in a Playoff win over Western of Louisville, he carried 45 times for 221 yards, and three touchdowns. Justin averaged nearly 5 yards per carry in the game.

FYI--I've spoken to almost all the stations carrying games this week, and we'll have full game wraps on the KNN Scoreboard Show Saturday Morning, along with the matchups for next week. Check the Player Of The Week thread for local stations...

Our KNN Scoreboard Show/Bluegrass Preps.com Player of the Week is Caldwell County sophomore quarterback Will Barnes. Will completed 13 of 19 passes for 261 yards and four touchdowns in the Tigers' 45-7 win over Webster County. In the process, Barnes set Caldwell single-season records for passing yards (1,831) and touchdowns (23).
