  1. GRC with 4 games remaining on the schedule this year decided to go to little substitution and VERY few players going both ways so as to keep them fresh. They proceeded to lose 3 of the 4 games and exited early. Everyone including the player s saw early on it was a mistake. but the coaches stuck with it and ended our season early as usual.
  2. Even thogh GRC is losing 17 seniors they should still be very strong. About half of those seniors saw little or no action. They will still be deep and talented at the RB position and the line should be solid. The line will be larger but also much slower and not as athletic. DB's will be more mature and better ( I hope) . There will be a big question mark at QB. No one with any varsity experience I'm aware of to take over.Probably will be favored to win the District but........with the same asst. coaches expect to go no further than 2nd game of the playoffs. Also, a lot depends on if any players transfer or just simply don't come back as some have indicated doing.
  3. We get pretty fair coverage in Clark Co. on about all levels of baseball. The local sports reporter for our dailey newspaper is usually at every game at least for most of it unless their is a schedule conflict or something. Then he'll get the book from the coach and write from that plus he generally will interview the coach and a few players. Our Overall coverage is good. Keith Taylor does it well for the Winchester Sun.
  4. Hey Mountain, I've heard the same thing about vote trading . Heard it from a coach so I know in some cases it DOES happen. When I was a manager in Little League it was common for one coach to call another and "trade" votes for their players. I would never do it and was shunned by other coaches for a few yrs. Its not fair to deserving kids .I always said that was why our LL teams never went more than 4 games deep in all-star playoffs.
  5. Sounds familiar. PLD is stopped but..............here comes a flag to save them. Congrats to both teams on great seasons. Go PLD v. HC.
  6. VERY VERY political. Alot of the ones on past teams meant nothing when voted on.
  7. HC wins but I'm pulling HARD for Dunbar.
  8. I felt like HC would win but the margin was greater than I thought it'd be. Go Dunbar!
  9. Hey CSHS, I'd totaly forgotten about the Banaszak play. How time flies! It WAS great. I'm a Raider fan from along time ago.
  10. That's right 32True. In middle school you can get by with size alone. When they move up to HS the speed factor plays a large part on being successful or being middle of the pack. GRC's Soph's are mostly big and for the most part outof shape. They need to lose a little fat and can do this without losing weight. I know for a fact very few of hem were in the weight room after last season and all summer. They need to dedicate themselves for next year and their Senior year. If not they will be big fat slow linemen getting beat on every play by good teams. I also agree with your asessment of Guinn and Perdue and Odom. The difference between Guinn and Perdue from their 8th grade year to now was phenominal. Both were bigger(fat) and then they transformed themselves into muscle and speed. I think Guinn may have lost a little weight thru this ,Perdue I don't think lost a pound from 8th grade but turned it into muscle and shifted it into the right places. To bad the coaches didn't use them on D along with Odom more. We would still be playing this week I think. Still don't understand why Odom got in the doghouse and lost so much playing time. Oh well, good luck to Will wherever he decides to go play. He'll be a monster next year for somebody.
  11. I too knew that Odom was leaving. As stated by the golfer, if the whole family relocates AND builds a house, plus a new job , I don't think theres any quetion he's eligible to play next year. Take Odom's leaving, plus the graduation of Hudson, Holloman, Skinner,Perdue, Guinn, and several others , that leaves some pretty big holes for GRC next year. They will have a good core group of players Jr's next year But look at the experience they are losing. There are internal problems at GRC. The higher ups and faculty don't want to admitt it but its true. Personally, I know that if some of these Seniors weren't graduating and had one more year, they would finish at a different school. When will PC wake up and get rid of the coaches causing the problems and finally get a quality staff, top to bottom.
  12. If GRC developes a QB for next season they could be the hard hoss's to clean after.
  13. I saw the channel 18 replay. Part of right foot was on the white line. Left completely out. Even with one foot in rule he was out of bounds. Sorry.(For GRC).
  14. This was a great game! However , I think GRC DID get the short end on BOTH calls in the last drive. But that's water under the bridge. 8-3 is a real good season, GREAT by GRC standards the last 14 yrs. This is only the 4th GRC team in School history to win more than 7 games. I'm VERY VERY proud of this team and this group of Seniors. Just think how impressive this group of kids could have been if ALL of them had stuck out from 8th grade on. On Coach PC I 'll agree he is a nice man, a good coach and a quality person. I'd love to see alittle more fire from him though. I think PC's biggest problem internally is that he has about 4 asst. coaches that aren't the man he is. 2 in my opinion have no knowledge of football at this level and thathas been apparent in Special teams play for the last few yrs. 2 others are completely out of control at practices and continuously berate , belittle, call names and demoralize these kids. These 2 are absolutely HATED by the players. Until PC makes changes with his staff this season will be a reflection of GRC seasons to come. With the talent returning(I HOPE) GRC again will 7-8-9 games the next few years and make an early out in the playoffs.PC sent one of his best asst. coaches packing a few yrs ago in Jerome Embry and the replacements have been several levels below him since. PC is a really good head coach as far as getting things going , the team in shape, etc. but he neds a top quality offensive and defensive coordinator.
  15. Paul Columbia of GRC. This was supposed to be a mediocre to avg. year with a lot of soph's logging many minutes. Wait 2 yrs everybody said. Well GRC is 8 and 1 and passed all expectations with bigger wins a head THIS year. Great compliment of seniors and younger players and solid coaching effort. I don't always agree with PC on his offnse play calling and substitutions but.........He has gotten the job done.
  16. Hard to pick the best but GRC is deep this year with Seniors: Ryan Bennett,Kalan Perdue, Josh Kuhne, JRS: Lance Rose , Jeremy Greene, Timmy Duvall. All are quality pitchers.
  17. I like the fact that no one is talking about GRC. Larry Allison is still one of the best coaches around and has a great senior core of players and depth at pitching to rely on. You're right in the fact that the road always goes through HC. I think GRC will surprise most of you this year.
  18. Don't overlook GRCHS. They lost only 3 seniors and only one pitcher. They are deep at pitcher with Bennett-sr. Perdue-sr. Rose-jr. Greene-jr. Kuhn-sr. and Duvall-jr. should be healthy by late fall. All can throw the ball well and throw strikes.Solid infield with Evan Bennett at 3rd,Wood at ss,Staton at 2nd,1st will be weak unless Guinn replaces Cody Christopher. barker behind the plate will hit and be much improved due to another year of maturity(soph), Tatum will give power and could do more if he would not go for HR every AB. Perdue will get alot of time at DH and LF which will give more power and consistancy to the line up. Dusty Davis will be healthy again and show the form he had as a soph(will be a sr.)This could very well be the sleeper team in the region.
