There are no lingering injuries as far as I am aware. FOr that matter, both teams appeared to come out of this game without major injury, which is always a plus. Good luck for the rest of the season Blue Colonels. :thumb:

Pike had a good game, but he alone wasn't the difference in the game. Quite a few others from Dixie contributed just as much. However, I don't like to mention names because invariably someone is omitted and I'd rather keep the focus on the team. As for the play you mentioned above, I record every game and have already watched the video with my boy. You are correct that the block on the Dixie linebacker was not a clip because the blocker started on the side and maintained contact throughout the block. However, a WR on the same side of the field clearly shoved the CB in the back (without first making contact on the front or side) as he came in make the tackle. So there should have been a penalty called on the play, just maybe not the one that the parent was talking about.

Congratulations, Dixie! Dixie scores a TD on a long pass play with under 4 minutes to go in the fourth quarter to pull out the victory. Overall, it was a very good team effort from the Dixie offense, defense, and special teams. Keep up the hard work. Continue to strive to improve each week.

I don't recall which team the Camels played in week 1, but I do know it wasn't Dixie. Congrats, Camels, on another solid win.

No, they lost to Holmes 42-26 in week 1. Holmes capitalized on two INTs that were returned for TDs and two other turnovers that gave Holmes the ball inside the 5 yard line for easy scores.

After a disappointing first game where the offense made too many mistakes to overcome, the Dixie offense played much better and had only one turnover (a fumble). Like in their first game, the defense continues to impress me. Congratulations on this win, Dixie Frosh. Cov Cath is up next for the Colonels, which should be a good game and another good test for these young men.

Details... Dixie offense was clicking early in the game. Dixie was up 12-0 at end of first quarter. Turnovers played a big part in the outcome. Dixie Qb's threw two interceptions returned for scores. Another Holmes interception was returned to the five, and subsequently turned into a score. Finally, a Dixie fumble at midfield was returned by Holmes inside the five and also resulted in a TD. That is four TD's scored by Dixie mistakes. Give credit to the Holmes defense for capitalizing on the mistakes. Dixie defense did score one TD on a fumble recovery in the endzone. Dixie defense looked good. Outside of a fake punt that went for about 30 yards in the second quarter, Holmes didn't do much offensively until the end. The longest Holmes offensive drive of the game was late in the fourth quarter when they drove about 45 yards for their final TD with less than a minute to go in the game. Holmes #4 went out with a leg/ankle injury and was using crutches afterwards, hope he is okay. Didn't see or hear about any other major injuries for either team, however Dixie had a few players go down with leg cramps.

The Scott frosh coach ran the wing t when he was at Summit View, so they may be running a variation.

I don't deny that there are a few kids with talent headed to Scott, and a few are headed to Simon Kenton. But, considering that my two boys played for Summit View (starting HB and guard), and that they have told me as recently as today that the QB, FB, and WB, among other positions are still headed to Dixie, I still contend that most of the talent is headed to Dixie. That said, I like the new Scott freshman coach. I hope he is able to help turn the Scott program around.

Most of the Summit View talent that won the championship last fall is headed to Dixie this year. Turkeyfoot had a very nice team last year, so this will be a nice combination of talent. Add in a mix of Raiders/Spartans and a few other athletic kids that I am aware of that are headed to Dixie this fall and this should be a very good year for the Dixie freshmen.

Please be careful what type of information you spread on here. My two sons are in the eight grade at "that middle school" and played football for him for the past three years. This past fall my sons and I went through the process of deciding which Kenton Co high school to attend. Not once did the middle school coach approach my sons or myself (and they knew we were evaluating schools) and tell us that my sons needed to attend Scott because he was going to be the new coach. And I have a pretty good relationship with the coach because I was involved with the booster organization at the school for three years. The middle school coach did tell people that the head coaching position at Scott would be opening (this was in November) and that he was going to be applying for it and hoped to get the job. But he didn't tell them they needed to follow him. So please don't say "he told his players" because that implies he told all of the players. I can't say you don't have a specific example (and I'd love to hear it if you do) because I'm not privy to all conversations. However, I really doubt it happened. Its probably a case of misunderstanding by the kid (I've seen that often) of what the coach was saying. If you want to discuss more details, please PM me. Also, for those of you that are misinformed about the "championship ring". The coach did not know he was going to get the ring. After winning the middle school championship game, the booster organization (the parents) decided a nice gesture would be to provide the coach and players with something to celebrate the wonderful season these boys and coaches experienced. We decided on dog tags for the boys and a ring for the coach. We gave it to the coach at the year end banquet and it provided a great capstone for the year. Again, the coach did not know, and did not participate, in the acquisition of the "championship ring". Some of you might say that I'm a "yes man", but I assure you that I've had my difference of opinion with this coach over the years. However, to read some of your comments are disrespectful, and there is no place on this class website for that. Again, please PM if you'd like to discuss anything related to the Summit View football program. Do it soon, though, because in a few months, we'll have to start talking Dixie Heights football. Hopefully, the rest of this thread will stay constructive and will focus on what has been reported as being two final contenders for the head coaching job.

My post referenced the 8th grade team at Summit View. The game the 8th graders played on that Sunday was a twenty plus point loss to Twenhofel. I believe you saw the Summit View 7th grade team, which is a very strong team. They didn't lose a game last year (37-0, I believe). They lost their first game this year when two starters had to sit out, but have won 4 straight since. They are a very impressive team.

In a perfect world, 9 or 10 kids is good depth. The problem is, injuries, etc., can limit available players during the season. For example, Summit View's 8th grade team started with 14 players. Due to 4 players being injured (three starters), they only have 10 players available right now for at least the next few weeks, maybe longer. If they had only kept 9 or 10, they would be down to 5 or 6 players for an extended period of team. They aren't going to hold tryouts during the season as circumstances dictate, so the added depth will be key right now. Sometimes a team will have great health all year, and sometimes it won't. The problem is, you can't predict.

I hope he is okay. If anyone knows anything, please keep us updated.

Congrats, SK Freshmen! Great end to a great season. The first half was played pretty evenly. SK controlled the line of scrimmage in the second half and put this game away. Congrats to the HHS Freshmen also. You played hard until the end. Keep up the hard work and I'm sure you will represent HHS very well as varsity players.

In an attempt to keep this thread open, I'd like to move away from the Ryle discussion and back to SK/HHS. That said, the above put a couple of questions in my head. 1) Has Dale ever taken over the head coaching job in a game before? Since this was mentioned, I'm curious if it's actually happened. As others have mentioned, it wouldn't seem fair to the freshman coach that got them this far (and has experienced success in the past). 2) Has HHS run drastically different looks this year in different games? Based on what I've read, it seems like the first game with SK was fairly close, and had it not been for a few mental mistakes, it could have had a different outcome. That said, if, as a coach, you don't expect your kids to have the mental mistakes this time, and if you have been running the same plays all year, would you risk running different looks and risk execution problems when you have a very good chance for success with what you have been running all year? Has HHS historically shown the propensity to run different looks when they see a team for the second time in a championship game? I appreciate any observations those familiar with the HHS program can share.

Don't rule out the contribution that the middle school teams are making. Last year, Summit View and Twenhofel had two of the best middle school programs. They played each other for the West Division title, and Summit View went on to win the Championship over Campbell County. Many of those 8th graders are on the SK Freshman team this year. If this year can be a gauge, it looks like they have all come together fairly well.

It seemed like to me that Bricking and #26 (Brock?) weren't on the same page on quite a few pass routes. Maybe that is a result of the new offense adjustments mentioned above. They get this worked out and that might be the compliment needed for EJ. Dixie went up 26-8 in the third quarter, and I thought they were going to run away with it. Give SK credit, they stayed in there and fought bought. Something else I found interesting was late in the game when Dixie was having a hard time finding any running room between the tackles, even though they had a noticeable size advantage on the line. As Nees mentioned, when they ran wide, it was a different story. Congrats, Dixie, on the win. Keep improving each week. SK, keep playing hard with the intensity you demonstrated tonight, and you will do just fine this year.
