Sweeperboy Posted October 31, 2007 Posted October 31, 2007 With all the hype this past week leading up to this rematch of two heavyweight Frosh teams (SK being undefeated and HIGHLANDS well lets just say being HIGHLANDS) could this game be one of the greatest Frosh Champ games of all time? I think you can absolutely forget about what happened two weeks ago in Independence between this two teams. Highlands lets say was just not ready mentally or physically and SK did what they have been doing all year long and thats winning. I could see this game coming down to a missed pat or a big time special teams play to decide this one. I say HHS wins this one by 1 and gives Coach Charlie Barr a Happy 30th year anniversay present with a Championship. Good luck to both programs.
FTBIGBIRD Posted October 31, 2007 Posted October 31, 2007 Well, whoever wins, I will be there. I want to see this monstrous event that got people so heated, they had to go and break the rules and have the thread shut down prior to me getting to post. How are all the Baby Birds' injuries? Have they gotten to rest up? How was ryle not in this? I do wonder since we have 3 losses and they state that they only have one. Hmmmm? I really don't care and am just happy that the birdies are in and its two nights of great Birds' Football in a row. P.S. I was at the frosh game last week and it looked like they Birds are finally peaking. They are peaking just at the right time. They seemed to get it done. There was passing, running, defense, and some special teams action that made me so proud to see them turn it around from the first game I saw(Ryle). Many less penalties for the team that seems to have a magnetic draw of yellow cloth to themselves. If the frosh play the way they did last week with the confidence, poise, and aggressiveness, it will come down to the last few minutes. I will bring our sportsmanship in case anyone forgets theirs. You can borrow some of mine.
Sweeperboy Posted October 31, 2007 Author Posted October 31, 2007 Being such a big game and the fact that Dale loves to be involved in big games, will he be calling the shots tomorrow night or does he allow Coach Barr to do his thing? With that said the SK team could see some drastically different looks from the Birds offensively. This could get real interesting imo.

With that said the SK team could see some drastically different looks from the Birds offensively. This could get real interesting imo. I know that Dale likes to get involved but I would think that he would want to let Charlie Barr, the coach along with Whitford, Behymer, and Company do their job. I am sure he may share some insight with them. I really couldn't tell you. I never played for him and don't really know what to expect. I do remember the last Frosh game that he was at and he was on the sideline jumping all over the refs defending his baby birds like a mother deer when you get too close to one of her fawns. I like that, to an extent. If Dale were to come in and take over the reigns, it to me would not be fair. Not to the frosh coaches, nor to the other team. I have learned one thing about Dale over the years, he tries to do what is believed to be the classy thing. The classy thing would be to stand stoicly on the sidelines. His personality and passion for the game prevents him from doing that. I like that a coach still gets this animated. Regardless of who makes the calls, it will be the Freshmen on the field that decide the game for both sides. GO BIRDS!!!!!!!
Henry521 Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 I too am looking forward to this game. I was at the last game and putting my trust in the Birds that I will not walk out of this game feeling the way I did last time Win or Lose. I'm guessing that Dale will be on the sidelines but Charlie and company will be calling the shots. :thumb: I felt that the Birds could have won the game the last time but self destructed. Don't mean to take anything away from Simon K., they are an excellant team. They played like a team and deserved the win. I would have liked to see the outcome had the Highlands players kept it together and had played football like a TEAM.
oldjarhead Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 With all this talk of the two best teams I thought there was a team from Union that went 8-1
THUNDERBIRDS Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 with all this talk of the two best teams i thought there was a team from union that went 8-1 We all should know by now that this is east vs west so ryle is out of the question. They couldn't play in this game unless Simon wanted to give it up. We all know that's not going to happen. Ryle is probably the second best team, in the west that is!!!! Sorry guys
oldjarhead Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 Well I also believe Ryle beat every team in the east, most on their home fields. So I guess ryle is the second best team. (wasn't it Ryle who broke the 4 year win streak?)
Henry521 Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 with all this talk of the two best teams i thought there was a team from union that went 8-1 It was their one loss that makes them not the best team.

In an attempt to keep this thread open, I'd like to move away from the Ryle discussion and back to SK/HHS. That said, the above put a couple of questions in my head. 1) Has Dale ever taken over the head coaching job in a game before? Since this was mentioned, I'm curious if it's actually happened. As others have mentioned, it wouldn't seem fair to the freshman coach that got them this far (and has experienced success in the past). 2) Has HHS run drastically different looks this year in different games? Based on what I've read, it seems like the first game with SK was fairly close, and had it not been for a few mental mistakes, it could have had a different outcome. That said, if, as a coach, you don't expect your kids to have the mental mistakes this time, and if you have been running the same plays all year, would you risk running different looks and risk execution problems when you have a very good chance for success with what you have been running all year? Has HHS historically shown the propensity to run different looks when they see a team for the second time in a championship game? I appreciate any observations those familiar with the HHS program can share.
NKYMoHo Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 Time and location? According to the SK football website, the game is tomorrow (Thursday 11/1) at SK at 6:00.

Sorry guys 8-1 I think that speaks for itself . If i recall ryle beat every team in the east so its my opinion HHS has no claim to being the best from the east CC also beat you pretty good . SO SK , RYLE, and CC are better than HHS!!!!!!!

Has HHS historically shown the propensity to run different looks when they see a team for the second time in a championship game? I appreciate any observations those familiar with the HHS program can share. As for #1, I can't say whether or not this has happened before. HHS only had two real home games this year (Ryle and Scott), and Coach Mueller was on the sideline for both. I believe he was offering input during the Ryle game, but didn't actually "take over." The Conner game ended up being at Highlands, and he was on the sideline for part of the first half, but appeared pretty laid back. To point #2, without giving up the gameplan:sssh:, they have added a few wrinkles each game, depending on what they saw through scouting to counter another team's strength. I don't believe they have installed any different look, however they could pull something out of their playbook that they may not have used in a while. From what I saw of SK in the first game, they are well-coached and play well together, and for HHS to beat them, it will have to be a great team effort with outstanding execution on both sides of the ball. This will be a great game to watch!
