All Play No Work

I'm guessing because the 2A schools + Beechwood are locked into 2 games with each other and the 5A/6A schools are locked into games against each other and playoffs. Some of the 2A schools were able to get a game with one of the 5A/6A schools for the final game but I believe that is only with teams that probably won't be involved in any playoffs at that level, some are just playing 8 games.

Exactly. There has to be a magic number assigned at the start. Most of the time that magic number comes from the previous year. So teams like CovCath will start with a high number and usually thats okay because they will win a lot of games. You only notice it when the team is not nearly as good as the previous year.

I agree with you that they could compete. But you have to remember back in the "old days" LCA wasn't in that district and they have only been bounced out by Beechwood, Holy Cross, or NCC. And they are a program on the rise. They make that district a lot stronger now than it had been traditionally and the loss of HC and NCC to 2A make the NKY district weaker.

Stop the run and Dayton wins. Don't stop the run and LC wins. It is that simple. Dayton has seen a power running game that was better in Beechwood (plus Beechwood can throw) so they know what they need to do.

While I think Dayton, Bellevue, and Ludlow are certainly capable of being in the top 25% of Class A teams I don't know that they would be a 1 or 2 seed in every district. For example, just one district over I don't think any of them could beat LCA and I'm not positive they could all beat Raceland and Fairview. Not saying they couldn't but if we went back to the "old" playoff system of playing other districts only Beechwood and LCA would be locks.

I guess that wasn't too clear. Basically IMO if Raceland wins it will be by a slim margin of 7 or less. If LCA wins but doesn't play well in all 4 quarters and has some people banged up, then it could be by an equally slim margin. However, if they bring their A game, play consistantly, use the home field advantage, etc. the margin could baloon to a substantial amount like 21 or more.

I think LCA wins at home. Depending on the health issues on both teams and if LCA puts together four quarters, the winning margin could be anywhere from 1 to a lot of points.

The score will be whatever Bellevue wants it to be.

They don't play because Highlands had the opportunity for games against elite teams and had to drop somebody and that was NCC. You can't fault Highlands or Mueller for pursuing the opportunites of games like against Elder in the PIT and PBS. At the time NCC had a couple of bad losing years (not that it really matter because Highlands was beating everyone by 60 then) and where the game fell on the schedule (remember teams had more district games then and they had to be played after non-district games) it was the most logical game to go. The NCC game really wasn't helping Highlands in terms of preparation for district, state, and right or wrong national hopes. That of course was not a popular decision with some people on the other side of it that thought some other game should be the one gone. Now that the district games are less it could be possible without losing elite games from the schedule, but I'm sure it isn't as easy as that with the past.

It might not be possible to play worse than NCC did in this game last year when they absolutely threw in a clinker especially on offense. Holy Cross didn't really play all that well either, but it was certainly a better effort than NCC put forth. With that memory, and with the thumping in the playoffs, both teams ought to be a tad keyed up for this one. NCC will have to stop Holy Cross on the ground including the QB who is a dangerous runner. Holy Cross will have to pick a few passes off while not letting the NCC run game get going. Sort of the same formula as last year.

Brossart is going to find it difficult to compete with Beechwood, Dayton, Bellevue, and Ludlow because not only do those schools not have soccer (and golf) programs, they do not have extremely established programs that are state elite status. You will know they are ready to start being good in football when those programs start to slide (see Holy Cross soccer). In a small school it is just so difficult to have multiple same-season sports be successful.

Beechwood should win in a big fashion. Ludlow does not have the defense to shut down Becchwood this year, and if the offense turns it over it could be over early.

Why not? Doesn't mean Holmes will win by 2, but it could tell us that both teams are in the same neighborhood.

Another one with actual playoff chances. Camels go to Conner for a key game. Both are 0-2 in the district so it looks like the loser is in deep. For some reason I think both teams are better than what they shown so far. Who rates the edge?

Newport hasn't scored much this year but the Jugg defense has been giving up some points. Lloyd has scored some points but the Newport defense has been decent except when overmatched against Ryle. So does this look like a 20-20 game headed for Overtime or does one team rate the edge?

Actually this is shaping up as the maybe THE most interesting district game in NKY because the loser might actually miss the playoffs. (Ah, memories of when district games had playoff implications.) So can Scott rebound from disappointing losses to Dayton and Covcath and knock off Holmes? Has Holmes settled down or will their inconsistencies in the passing game allow Scott to grab a W at home? What do you think?

It was a difficult decision I'm sure, but the move to 6 classes made it a little easier to decide.

And that would be totally unfair. Beechwood could win 150-0 if they wanted to.

You know there isn't much either team can do about it. Brossart has some people out with injuries and they don't have that many to begin with. Beechwood can't just tell kids not to perform.

Lots of people have thoughts of Beechwood and Mayfield being the favorites in 1A this year. Is it time to consider LCA as a legit contender for the crown? Consider that LCA bounced Beechwood two years ago and last year lost to a pretty decent Raceland team in the playoffs. This year you got to figure if they can play their A game (as in scoring 38 unanswered at Lloyd) and somehow sustain that for an entire game (instead of what happened at Lloyd) then they might be able to beat anyone in 1A. What say you?

LCA seems to be a tad streaky over the years. When they are "on" they can score in bunches. Was it the Raceland playoff game last year that was like two different halves totally?
