I don't think they will deal with it very well at all. I was not involved in the process so I can not speak for the group that pushed this. I speak out only because the program I support has had its fair share of problems with parochial schools encouraging athletes in our feeder schools to attend. We did turn in a school and they were punished, BUT it took nearly three years of constant nagging on our part to get the KHSAA to act. That is why I say the KHSAA is inept in pursuing these type of actions. If a verifiable act of recruiting happens and is reported, there is no way it should take 3 years for the KHSAA to investigate and produce findings.

Adding 100 investigators would do no good if the KHSAA is inept in the process. I'm for all the scrutiny possible.

Yes, I was using my illustration as an example of what happens and support my contention, rightly or wrongly, that stronger enforcement will not cover all aspects of this issue. Couple that with my experience with the foot-dragging by the KHSAA when actual, proven allegations are reported. I agree that these type of activities happen on both sides and if the KHSAA WOULD investigate aggressively each and every report and work to severely punish those found guilty in a timely manner, most of the problems would cease. I also agree that everyone should promote their school, the problem arises when it is done with the primary goal is to convince above-average athletes to attend. I still contend that those on the public side that pushed for things such as Prop 2 did so because they viewed the enforcement of the KHSAA as inept. Again, the scenario I described supposedly happened at another school. Had it happened to the program/school I support, I would have reported it. I don't know if they will or did.

The By-Law 10 case study is what I was referring to. I am not saying it was written clearly or that it makes sense, but it does, I believe, back up my contention that the situation I laid out would be a case of recruiting. Would parents in the situation I described know they were "recruiting" prospective athletes - I very seriously doubt it. As for the high profile coach-parent that spoke to them at a game, it is highly unlikely that he just happened to stop by this group and talk. He was not the most outgoing and chatty type from what I remember. The fact that those on the private side completely disregard these type of actions as a problem is what led the public side to pursue other avenues. It is also why the private side's solution of adding more investigators would not solve anything IMO and why the public side looked to remedies such as Prop 2. The situation I described took place at a cross-county rival, so reporting it would be up to those at that school.

For those on the private side of the issue, please feel free to disagree with Prop 2, but at least admit that there are problems, on both sides, like the one I outlined that can't be fixed by "enforcement-only" by the KHSAA.

I would agree that BOC should be appointed and not current AD's. The issue of enforcing rules on recruiting and Prop 2 are more difficult. Let me give a situation the way I understand it happened (w/o any names of kids or schools) recently for illustration. A student-athlete in 8th grade public school who plays basketball and his parents decide to attend a parochial high school in Jefferson County. The high school coach that would have had this kid coming in from his feeder school was disappointed but understood his parents wishes. Now the problem occurs, this kids parents (who have already decided that their kid IS attending the parochial high school) now begin to encourage the parents of their sons friends (who also play basketball) to check out the parochial school as well and think about attending. The 3 families attend a basketball game at the high school this past winter. It just so happens that a rather famous local college football coach stops by and says hello and that he hopes these families decide to join the "--------" family. All 3 kids are supposed to enroll in this particular private school this fall. Was this illegal recruiting? YES. The parents, once they decided their son would enroll, became (probably unknowingly) agents of the school if I'm not mistaken and therefore can not attempt to persuade others to attend. A high profile parent meeting and welcoming the group at a basketball game was obviously recruiting. QUESTION? Who is going to turn this in? If turned in, who is going to relate the facts of the events? The parents whose kids are now in the school???? If I were the coach of the offended school, I would turn it in and pester the powers that be at KHSAA until at least an investigation was begun. Would anything come of it? Very doubtful, since their is no "hard" evidence that anything improper took place and the ones with the facts have it in their best interest to keep quiet. Did illegal recruiting or contact happen, no doubt it did. This type of illustration is probably the biggest type of problem that occurs and adding all the investigators in the world WON'T solve it. Prop 2, however, would make situations like this a lot less likely. Just one man's opinion.

I don't think there is a limit on number of 7/7's a team can play during June. But, it would seem that teams competing so early didn't have much time to get ready unless they started practicing before the end of the school year? Congrats to Manual.

Ditto, Catlett is a VERY good guy that does a lot for his kids and the Louisville football community. Some fans will never be satisfied.

Although selected to Tremendous 26 team this year as a safety, R.D. Reynolds of North Bullitt will be a very good dual threat QB this year as well. Moved to QB full-time in 7th game last year and responded with 185 yds per game over the last 4. Had over 1,200 total yds last year accounting for 20 TD's. Excellent running QB.

Dalton Cissell, North Bullitt, was #3 in state last year with 194.8 yds per game and 5th in yds rushing with 2,143. Will be a junior this year.

Terp, From what I see on KHSAA site, Anthony Knott was 20th in state in yards per game with 138.8 yds per game??

North Bullitt has a lot of talent returning from last years 7-4 team. Tremendous 26 pick, R.D. Reynolds at safety and QB. Last years #4 rusher with 2,143 yds, Dalton Cissell at RB. 2 time 1st team All-District OT Corey Downing 6'1" 280 lbs. 3 yr starter Brandon Daniels at OLB. 6'4" 270 lb Jimmy Blandford, 3 yr starter, who is on getting tons of mail from D1 schools. 2 yr starter at OT Darrell Parker 6'0" 270 lbs. In all, 17 of 22 starting positions return. Have to prove they can win in post-season, but they do have the tools to make a lot of noise this year.

Just named on "Tremendous 26" team of top seniors for 2007.

Any thoughts / comments on this kids potential?

I agree, it is impossible to see a lot of other teams/players when you are busy following your own during the year. This site and others like it provide a great opportunity to share what others are doing.

1st, not related. Just a person close to his situation that feels this kid deserves to get some attention because of his love of the game and his tremendous work ethic. Would compare him to Corey Rakes in his passion to get better. 2nd, I feel he will probably end up playing fullback in college and make a pretty good one some day at the D1 level somewhere. Like Rakes, he is a good student that will help as well. 3rd, he never went to Central, his brother did. Finally, I would say that, given the choice, North would be more successful with Cissell running the ball with another QB than with Reynolds at QB with another RB. Luckily, North will have both next year and will give teams a lot of headaches trying to stop them both. The East game last year was a good example of what they can do together. As I said on this site prior to that game. That is, East would have trouble stopping both of them. North won with Cissell and Reynolds combining for over 300 yds of offense. PS. There were rumors about Rakes as well as I remember. He just went about his business and it worked out well for him.

Not making excuses but he did come into season last year less than 100%. Had a slight tear in hamstring suffered at U of L passing camp in June. Bothered him quite a bit until late in the season. Kid doesn't know how to ease up. Will see about getting some more clips.
