I went to the City Championship last night. Though it wasn't like the Cat's Den, like in the old days when there was standing room only. But you could still feel the pressure of the Cross-Town Rivals, as the Wildcats warmed up and put a dunk show on for the fans, (What amazing athletes they have!!). Unfortunately dunks don't win ball games, but a good game plan does and the Wildcats had one, they shut Kiernan down pretty well and played good defense, and was patient on off. taking good shots. Newport won 56-50, Great Game both teams, I'm sure they will meet again!!!

Hey bballfanky, Who beat the Ockerman 8th Grade team?? BTW, anyone that knows anything about AAU or Middle school Teams will agree that Gabbard and Flannery and Company are for real. If these Boys stick together through High School, they should really have a Powerhouse!!!

It looks like that Holmes is sill number one, and the Bluebirds will have to go to the number two spot, since they beat Cov Cath and New Cath.

I do know that the "Billygoat" does want to be a BLUEBIRD!!!

Does the Wildcats have anyone to stop Kiernan?

I seen Bellevue High School star, Steve Ridder beat a powerhouse Newport Wildcats just about single handly, back in the 1976 in the first round of the Disticts, I think he scored 42 points. ( He was really a complete player!!).

I don't think Newport beat them last year, but they did the year before when the Wildcats had Michael Searp.

Well said BigStud, James Glenn and James "Shakes" Thomas is as good as anyone in the 9th Region. As a coach you have to get your players to play together and you have to get them to play thier best! Now, for the game against the Thoroughreds it shouldn't take a whole lot of Motivation to get the Wildcats to step it up.

Sometimes rivalries such as these, you really don't know whats going to happen. I truely believe the Wildcats have the better talent. But coaching decisions and what players are going to step thier playing level up, is really some deciding factors of the outcome. Should be a barnburner. (Good Luck Both Teams!!!)

There was a great player from 60's that played for the Newport Wildcats, I think his name was Vories. I thinked he went on and stared for Geogetown, Ky or Berea?

The "Ole Fort Thomas Muddogs" City Champs Coached by famous ST. Thomas/NKU Star Matt Geisler, man those was the days. Do the Muddogs still have a Team??

Should really be a great Regional barometer, But I think the Wildcats are are just to good and expierenced for BB. (But Good Luck Both teams!!)

Well it looks like Friday nights game (1/6) between the Colonels and Bluebirds, should really be a barnburner. I look for Highlands to pull this one out, they are just to physical and with Cov Cath being banged up a little (Tierney), that probably will be a big factor in the outcome.

It looks like South Laurel is favorite to win the State Championship again!!! I really don't think no one in the State can beat them!!!

That match-up is going to be a great Regional barometer, I can't wait! Where is the game going to played at??

I have seen the Grote youngman play the last couple of years, and he is an outstanding athlete, He gets a lot of respect from people and fans that I know throughout Northern Ky. ( I do, and will give credit to all these youngmen that I see play and know, of course it's only my opinion)!!!

Next Monday Night 1/09 at Newport, The Wildcats will host the Thoroughbreds in the City Championship, always a great rivalry and great match-up. Who will win this one??

Can Covington Catholic beat Holmes at this point of the season??

Give the young and up coming stars through out the state a little credit, everyone all over the state already knows Arkansas Brewer. High School Teams and AAU Divisions. I'm telling you, I've seen over 25 Freshman Teams and 20 AAU Teams play this season and there is no one player that is good as this youngman.

I wonder how South Laurel will do against North College Hill, it will be great exposure and great expierience no matter what happens, they might just surprise the boys from Ohio.

Doug Schlomer from Holmes was a great all-around player, the Bulldogs lost in the "Sweet Sixteen Championship" to Shelby County which stared UK standout Charles Hurrt. Then Schlomer went on and played for the UC Bearcats.
