Rain and light snow will begin to move into southern Indiana and north central Kentucky early Friday afternoon. The mix will continue eastward across central Kentucky throughout the afternoon and evening hours before coming to an end early Friday night. 0.5 to 1 inch of snow is possible along and north of Interstate 64. Periods of sleet will also be possible at times. The wintry precipitation could impact the evening rush hour. This remains a developing situation. Subsequent forecasts could lead to changes in the amounts and locations of the highest amounts. Freezing temperatures Friday night will cause any remaining untreated water to freeze.
  5. I just received this from the National Weather Service-Louisville office.
  6. It seems that this system is currently moving in a more southerly direction. Rain is expected to precede precipitation. The rain should change into snow as arctic air takes over. The amount of possible accumulation varies throughout the models. Some areas of the Cumberland Parkway to the south and east may have seen light freezing rain. According to the forecast, everything will begin on Friday afternoon or evening and end early on Sunday morning. Since this system will be moving quickly, regions that may get snow accumulations shouldn't expect more than 1-4 inches.
  7. Another sign of the system taking a more southerly track. The hazardous conditions could impact the Tuesday morning commute. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...It is likely that a narrow band of heavy snow will develop with this system. An area of low pressure is expected to move across northern Tennessee and into southeast Kentucky tonight. As the low moves into southeast Kentucky, colder air is expected wrap into the region behind the low. Rain is expected to change over to wet snow as this colder air pushes in. Initially, surface temperatures will start off well above freezing when the snow begins, but temperatures are expected to fall to near freezing overnight. Some minor snow accumulations will be possible with a non-zero chance of impactful snowfall. Slick road conditions could be possible Tuesday morning. If the track of this system continues trending southward in subsequent forecasts, higher snowfall accumulations may occur and a Winter Weather Advisory may be issued in later forecasts. Stay tuned to NOAA weather radio and your local media for the latest on this winter weather situation.
  12. I just received this from the National Weather Service-Louisville office.
  13. Without a doubt, the snow field that was there this morning has narrowed, and the track has moved south. The piling snow on both the north and south sides of the track will have a quick cutoff. Either the north or south side of the track may have dusting to 1"; generally speaking, 2-4" will be feasible.

  15. Here's a better map.
  16. Ha Ha, I know how you feel. The 18z NAM now shows the snow going straight through southcentral and central Kentucky. This morning, it was showing snow along the Ohio River. I'm waiting for the 18z run of the GFS and ICON to be issued later today to see what it shows. They were both showing the heaviest snow north of Cincinnati. I am really interested to see what it shows. I want to see if it brings the snow back towards the south.

  18. The heaviest snow accumulations have moved further north than yesterday, and there is a slight difference in the three models I am using this morning. The NAM is still coming in with the highest totals. This is the second call for possible snow accumulations. As I mentioned in my previous post, I expected the totals to lower slightly. In the Cincinnati/NKY area, I am now projecting 2-4"; there is a chance for 6-8" just north of Cincinnati.
  19. This is just a preliminary outlook. It will change and probably go down. With possible snowfall rates of 1/2 to 1" per hour, it wouldn't take long to start to accumulate, even with the warm weather. The 06z run of the GFS has risen to the high end of my prediction, but don't take just one individual run to make predictions. They can change between runs.
