Correct me I’m wrong, but Hoop may be referring to the All 8th Region team. I haven’t seen it posted anywhere as of today. The girls team was announced last Monday, I believe. Maybe the boys will be today.

In the aforementioned Collins game Fortner, Felt, and McKnight played and Gallatin won by double digits. That’s their top three scorers and top two rebounders and one of the top three point shooters in the state. (Gallatin also has one). And yes, losing in the final seconds of the All A to Walton-Verona, the 8th ranked team in the Herald-Leader rankings, does mean something. They weren’t a “contender” last season, but came within one basket of defeating the regional champs in the semifinals. So, in review, they won by 11 at Collins, lost to WV when they missed the last shot, and lost to South Oldham on a last second shot after they trailed by 19. If they make it to New Castle next week they could bounced in the first round for sure. But their opponent had best bring their “A” game.

Collins just lost at home to Oldham, who were without the services of Gibson. By your logic that should move the Titans from contenders to pretenders.

No. I wouldn’t say that at all. They shoot 57% from inside the arc and 38.5 behind it, good enough for 11th in the State. Overall, they shoot an even 50.0%, 14th in the State.

Final from Warsaw. Gallatin fell behind 31-12 midway through the second quarter. Pulled within 35-33 midway through the third, but once again fell behind by double digits. Still trailed 58-50 with 2:00 remaining, finally caught up at 64 with 7 seconds left, but a South jumper with 1.3 left was the game winner.

If they go very deep down in Richmond, they will probably have to cancel a game or two.

Going head to head with the NCAA Tournament is the least of their worries.

I would say WV had the more difficult follow up game. They just came off their most important victory of the season in a highly intense, high level played game that went down to the wire. To recover emotionally and win at Campbell County three days later is very impressive.

The All A is the smallest 125 schools by enrollment last I heard. That’s why I cringe when I hear it referred to as “Class A”.

Don’t be fooled into the thinking a “small” school would rather win this tournament instead playing at Rupp in March. I’m fairly certain my school’s fan base would rather win the 8th Region than the All A Classic Statewide Tournament. Better yet, which tournament would Walton-Verona fans want to win? Next week in Richmond or New Castle come March.

Final from Owenton. Gallatin had a 3 rim out with 10 seconds left and WV free throws secured the victory. Stanley with 32 for Walton-Verona. Justin Rassman led Gallatin with 23.

Final from Carrollton. Gallatin ends the game on a 15-2 run to improve to 13-3. Next up is Williamstown in the All A in Owenton on Tuesday.

The Wildcats improve to 9-2 with the victory in the 3rd place game at the Smoky Mountain Classic. Next up is Washington County on Thursday afternoon in the Campbellsville Holiday Tournament.

Final from Warsaw. Gallatin improves to 6-0 overall and 4-0 in District play. Next up is The Smoky Mountain Classic in Gatlinburg this weekend.

That was their downfall on Friday when they let a 7 point lead in the last 2:30 slip away at Oldham County.
