  1. My mistake ... forgot that the Dragons beat Apollo.
  2. There aren't eight elite teams in all of 3A. Tilghman might be a top-8 team in 3A ... the class is that weak.
  3. Small schools 1. Fort Campbell 2. Mayfield 3. Monroe County 4. Murray 5. Crittenden County 6. Green County 7. Paducah Tilghman 8. Union County 9. Owensboro Catholic 10. Glasgow Big schools 1. Bowling Green 2. Christian County 3. Owensboro 4. Allen County 5. Lone Oak 6. Henderson County 7. Apollo 8. Warren Central 9. Franklin-Simpson 10. Greenwood
  4. No real surprise ... Union County and Paducah Tilghman meet next week with the district title on the line.
  5. I was told the final score was actually 60-6 ... like it matters.
  6. Tilghman's current problems have little to do with anyone else in the county. It's more of an internal issue.
  7. Nope ... plans are for a consolidated school.
  8. Chicago is part of the United States, last I checked. Plus, he can do plenty of business on Air Force One, and he even met with Gen. McChrystal in Copenhagen.
  9. I remember some criticism about going to China, given that nation's history of human rights violations. But I honestly don't remember him being criticized heavily for the cost of the trip. And I searched the BGP archives ... I sure didn't see anything of the sort here.
  10. Reidland's football team is on their annual Homecoming Tour. They were there for Heath's ceremony last week and I was told that tonight is Murray's Homecoming. True? Paducah Tilghman's is tonight, when weak sister Webster County rolls into town.
  11. I didn't have a problem with Bush being there, just as I don't have a problem with Obama going to Copenhagen to help Chicago's bid. I do a have a problem with the hypocrisy that characterizes the criticism of Obama, when I never heard anything of the sort concerning the Bushes in Beijing.
  12. And what about the millions it cost for President Bush and the First Lady to attend the Summer Olympics in Beijing last year for several days?
  13. No, I don't know that it would have been the case. Maybe so, maybe not. And you're right ... maybe he was the boost the Chicago people needed. I'm just tired of the Right using the media as an excuse for when public opinion doesn't always sway its way.
  14. The IOC doesn't reflect American values and interests. Why would Oprah Winfrey have much influence with them? As for Pele ... he was once as recognizable an athlete as there was in the world. Why wouldn't he have some influence?
  15. As Keith Olbermann correctly pointed out the other night, President Bush attended the Summer Olympics in Beijing for a few days last summer. I honestly don't remember any widespread criticism of him for leaving the problems of the country behind to watch the Olympics halfway around the world.
  16. No argument there, but the Yankees have so much more margin for error because of their financial advantages. And there are some franchises that simply can't afford to shell out money on the free agent market on a regular basis.
  17. The Yankees have huge financial advantages in cable TV revenue, for one thing, by virtue of the market they play. Is there another team in baseball that can afford to hand out $420 million in free agent contracts (Sabathia, Teixiera and Burnett) in one offseason?
  18. The Yankees won this year, in large part, for three reasons: C.C. Sabathia, Mark Teixeira and A.J. Burnett. In effect, they replaced Carl Pavano, Jason Giambi, Mike Mussina and Bobby Abreu, the former two of which were albatross contracts for any other team but the Yankees. They were able to replace those guys with new free agents that were still in the prime of their careers, and those guys produced as such. No other team cam afford to do that. Let's not pat the Yankees on the back so hard for doing something no other franchise can do.
