Would he really? Smoltz has been awful as a starter. I'm far from enamored with Boggs, either, but to say Smoltz would be an upgrade is awfully debatable. The best role for Smoltz is in the bullpen ... period. The upgrade there is bigger than the alleged upgrade in the rotation.

Smoltz would help in the bullpen, but from what I'm hearing, Smoltz may have talked his way into getting a shot at the rotation. LaRussa isn't too enamored with Mitchell Boggs as the fifth starter. As a Cubs fan, I'm hoping for it ...

If Madisonville is as good as the talk from there says they are, they should win the game. Murray is a pretty solid 2A team, maybe even the best in the west aside from Fort Campbell.

Why does this surprise anyone? Woodson was an overhyped prospect from the word go ... he doesn't deliver the ball like an NFL quarterback should or make the throws that would be expected of him.

There has never been any reason that Smoltz couldn't be an effective reliever. Expecting him to contribute as a starter while giving him a $5 million base salary was ridiculous.

I've managed to run across Boortz a few times late at night on WSB in Atlanta. Honestly, I was pleasantly surprised. I don't agree with him a great deal of the time, but his show had much less rancor and more reasonable discussion/analysis than the others I hear regularly.

I didn't say he was ... believe me, that would be the last thing I say about Beck.

Honestly, I haven't had a chance to read it. Plus, I don't read the Huffington Post and don't exactly consider it a credible, unbiased source of information.
