I heard Mark Cantrell is the new coach at Elliott Co. He was the former assistant coach at both Rose Hill and Lawrence Co. Look for some excitement in the Class "A" with this one...

Now that two private schools are playing for the girl's state championship, anyone care to guess how it will be next year? Will there be seperate championships for Public and Private? Weigh in because I think this game will have a big impact on that decision.

Agreed...but...There is no denying that Queen and Terry should have been included at least as Honorable Mention...No offense to The Baldwin girl at EC but she would not have received a D1 scholarship before her injury either.

Kayla could have very easily been selected as POY. Unfortunately she wasn't. Rayburn receiving the award is not a great shock because she has been an outstanding player for WC for quite some time. Hager has been an excellent coach for quite some time as well, but...there was definetly other coaches in the 16th Region that probably deserved this award more. Namely Troy Lee Thomas at Rowan Co. Region Championship game with a 7 point half time lead with a bunch kids who nobody gave a chance to all season...come on how many area coaches would have had the same success with this team?? Really need to think about what a coach means to their team when you think of COY.

My guess is after this week's state tourney, Some voters will wish they had added a few names to the list, Most notable would be Laura Terry and Emily Queen from Rose Hill. Both will play at a major D1 school and Terry just lit up Shelby for 34 and probably 12 to 15 rebounds! Big disappointment to see these to left off the list. Not taking anything away from the girls who are listed but how many of them have their team in the state tourney??

There is no reward in a 20+ win season if you can't win during tourney time. A great coach uses the regular season to prepare his team for the tourney. I would much rather lose to Catholic or Scott Co. then beat a team like Ironton St. Joe.

Only time will tell....I just hope the game is called better than both games last night. Both teams deserve a well officiated game. As they say leave it all on the floor... there is no tomorrow.:laugh:

In my opinion it will come down to Euton at Rose Hill and Thomas at Rowan, fitting isn't it that both are playing for a championship.:sssh:

My humble prediction for tonight's match up is....Rowan Co. 49, Rose Hill 47...I believe that the girls from Rowan would walk through fire for Troy Lee and tonight I think they'll walk on Water..

Congrats to the Lady Royals on the sweep of Russell. Russell just didn't have the composure in controlling the ball for all four quarters. They won two quarters and Rose Hill won two, unfortunately for the Lady Devils Rose Hill's quarters were a whole lot BIGGER! Sparks is showing more promise at the gaurd spot and should be a top 10 region player next season. I thought that Rose Hill did a nice job on limiting the number of touches that Okoro had. Both teams did not give up until the end and should be proud of their seasons.

I know many feel like the championship was played last night but....There is still a game tonight! The Lady Vikings quitely dispose of region powers in Boyd and West with superb defense and will be more than glad to play tonight for a championship. If the Royals don't play like they did against Russell last night...Their dream season could be over. I have stated in previous posts that defense wins championships and both teams won last night on defense. Should be a better game than most will expect. GL to both teams and may the team who executes best win.:thumb:

Well, I predicted a tremendous defensive effort in the previous post with Rowan winning 37 to 32, not to far off wouldn't you say??? Rowan is laying the table for an improbable seat at the table for the championship. Watch out 16th Region, Troy Lee knows a little about basketball...

Defense will dictate who wins or loses this game. If Russell gets the ball into a half court set and keeps the turnovers below 12 for the game they have the ability to win this one. Rose Hill cannot afford to let Russell dictate the pace of this game. They must come out early and pressure sparks every time she touches the ball. Rose Hill must finish on the break or as some have spoken of, emotions could start pouring out. GL to both squads, may the team who executes best win.

Well the two best teams in this region will clash in the semi's as expected. Who comes out ahead in this one? My prediction is Belfry by 4.:ylsuper:

East Carter will keep the game close because Coach Easterling knows how to control a game. But in the end the Devils are just to big and Strong. Russell 54 East Carter 41

That will be Russell's objective that night. Slow the game down and control the tempo. They will not allow an up and down game because they don't have the players to play that style. Believe me I want The Hill to score 100...but being realistic I think Russell's control of the game will be what determines the final score.:fight:

Fairview wins in a dog fight of crosstown rivals. This one comes down to rebounding and freethrows with the edge going to Fairview. Vanhoose will have a shot to win it in the closing seconds but will come up short like Russell's season has been all year. Eagles 57 Devils 55

Rowan takes this one in a defensive masterpiece... Rowan 37 Boyd 32

One more note, Don't count out Rowan Co. Coach Thomas has proven that defense will win you a championship. Anyone that has played Rowan this season knows that one thing is for sure, they come at you hard on defense.

Rose Hill took the battle between the Hill and the Devils earlier in the year, but you can bet that Kidwell has hoped that he would get one more chance to prove that his lady devils can beat the Hill. This game will hinge on how well Sparks and Fortman handle the pressure of Rose Hill's gaurds. If Russell can get the ball into their half-court offense they are pretty hard to stop. I agree with scooterbob in saying the refs will have a lot to do with this game because both teams can play physical. If I had to pick right now I would have to give the nod to the Red Devils 54 to Rose Hill 49.

Belfry will cut down the nets. This team has shown great patience in their offense and really puts pressure on the ball. Their coach is a class act and has complete control of his team. Magoffin will give them a great game but Belfry will not be denied this season.

Fairview cuts down the nets in this one. Wishful thinking for all the Tomcat fans. Cooksey puts out Flynn's "Fire" tonight. Barker shows that he is the steady hand that runs the ship. Fairview prepared well with their schedule and now should reap the rewards.:thumb:
