Is Bowling Green the best team in Ky?
The hits keep on coming. If nothing you are persistent. Horribly wrong, but persistent.

Is Bowling Green the best team in Ky?
In total, that's zero states.

Who benefits from that? Well, besides you and your weak attempt to degrade Trinity's scheduling methods. It's also the same reason Beechwood and HHS no longer play. The intelligent people in charge of creating schedules realize it's not beneficial for them.

See SML's post. The KHSAA has done nothing about T playing only 9 games a year, nor should they.

Ever made a schedule? You don't care what's best for other schools or the KHSAA. You schedule to make your team better when it counts. You can't say it's T'a fault for creating a machine and others aren't able to keep up.

Because only the district games matter. If you can't figure out why playing better teams makes you better than this is a pointless discussion. It's common sense. And, clearly, playing anyone outside KY other than X, BG, HHS and occasionally Male/Manual...etc, no one in the state can help them get better.

Because the goal is to get better to accomplish your goal. It's counterproductive to simply rack up wins just to play KY teams. How can you even question their method?

Well, yeah. And because that's true they need to keep playing the big boys from other states. Not really breaking news if you have been paying attention.

Dead Period
I'm guessing 13 to 1.

Dead Period
The dead period is? I disagree.

Dead Period
As for the bolded above...you have no idea... Also, you left this part out when telling me that pressure to win isn't a part of it. Maybe for you it isn't. "Pressure coming from, at least partly, the parents. Understanding that quite a few coaches put the pressure on themselves." Which is what you are insinuating above. You put pressure on yourself to prepare your kids. Lastly, what you are describing is what good coaches do to prepare their team to win. Life lessons are learned, which is your greater goal. However, at the end of the day great HS memories don't come from losses. Part of the experience is winning certain games.

Dead Period
Clearly we run in different circles. I thought it was the norm because so many people not playing baseball or softball are out of town. Does it fail because so many are on vacation?

Dead Period
You just said you'd be miserable if you were 5-20. Maybe I do know you...

Dead Period
I just explained it. I'm not sure how I could explain it any better. It gives the kids and families time off from "mandatory" practices to do things like vacations. If they choose not to take it and play summer ball (basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball, soccer...etc), that's their choice. However, I can tell you there are quite a few families that utilize this time so their child doesn't miss any HS practices or workouts. And again, it's not challenged by the HS coaches because it's a welcomed break.

Dead Period
Every kid that can take a vacation without worrying about losing a starting position or being behind in the weight room, in the gym...etc. The vast majority of families I know that take vacations take them during the dead period...including coaches. Which is one aspect no one has touched on. Most programs are running year round. Maybe not for every single kid but for quite a few.

Dead Period
I'm not saying bring some person off the street. Surely those teams have more than one coach, right? I don't think that's a problem at all.

Bologna. You want to win. There's nothing wrong with that. You're not doing it for ice cream and orange slices. You're doing it to build a program into a winning program. All the other stuff you said is just a means to an end. It's going about it the right way but still, the goal will be to win games by providing the best opportunities to your athletes. You can teach the life lessons all you want but if your 5-20 every year you would be miserable.

It's right where it should be. IMO, it takes a little better planning if you are a HS coach that's coaching a club team. Have some assistant coaches. Doesn't seem that difficult to me. Funny thing is, all the HS baseball coaches that coach summer baseball teams figure it out. Feels like softball could too. There's no way the dead period is making that large of a negative impact on softball teams.

Dead Period
Um...no. It would be because it's in their actual season. Nothing more, nothing less. And the biggest money maker is basketball so that doesn't work.

It's actually amazing to me that these elite teams your kids are playing for only have one coach. And that's not in jest because I know some of your kids are playing for legit teams from reading about their abilities. The KHSAA's rules apparently did affect your daughter, or at least her coaches, and she still played. Blowing this way out of proportion IMO. It's not like it's a new rule.
-
Dead Period
Agreed if there is only one coach. Seems like a bad idea to have only one coach but if that's all they can do, that makes it tough.
-
Dead Period
I would agree if they weren't allowed to play at all during that time period. Here's another point. If your son/daughter play baseball/softball only then you have the ability to take a vacation after the summer season, if you so choose. It's really a rule for multi-sport athletes families and since the KHSAA can only govern HS sports, it minimally impacts summer sports. It seems like some are misinterpreting the rule as if the kids can't do anything over that time period. Nothing is stopping a kid from playing baseball, softball, pick up basketball, getting football players together and running routes...etc. It just can't be with a school coach, at a school facility or with school equipment.

Dead Period
I have no idea about the situation at HC but the dead period is not to blame. I know you know this... It really affects the parent coaches more than anyone but the rules allow the parent coach the ability to be a spectator, just not to instruct during that time period.

Dead Period
I don't disagree that parents have, obviously, allowed it. I also would argue that the pressure put on HS coaches to win is what motivates quite a few to work year round. Pressure coming from, at least partly, the parents. Understanding that quite a few coaches put the pressure on themselves. It would be different if the KHSAA said, "Any KHSAA athlete that played a KHSAA sanctioned sport during the 2012-2013 school year is not allowed to play during the period of June 25th - July 9th or they are ineligible the following season." Now THAT would be a reason to get upset.

Dead Period
As stated. A kid that plays multiple sports in different seasons wouldn't get a "dead period". The point is that coaches are turning every sport into a year round activity. A three sport athlete at any school would never get a break as coaches would make everything "mandatory". This gives kids and families the opportunity to take some time off, if they so choose. And again, no one is making the player take time off. Just the coach. I've never heard a HS baseball or softball coach complain about the timing of the dead period. It's really the only feasible time to have an all sport dead period. The kids are still playing and that's all that matters.
