  1. Already a topic on this. http://www.bluegrasspreps.com/showthread.php?t=80371
  2. Here's three more Kentucky signees, Chris Wade, Lex Christian HS, Lexington,KY - IF Jason Chowning, Eastern HS, Louisville, KY - pit Colby Brown, Rockcastle HS, RockcastleCo, KY - pitcher Congrats to these boys. :thumb:
  3. I am in total agreement with the injury factor with no Fall instruction. The early part of the baseball season you'll see kids not throwing as hard and hitting is off. It will take a couple of weeks to get back into the groove. And not every area of this state has the luxury of having an indoor practice facility to work in over the Winter. They have to rely on a couple of days that may be warm enough to be able to go outside and toss. And you sure don't want to risk having an injury when it's really cold outside. And if a kid wants to focus on just one sport during his junior and senior season, why not. If that kid is serious about playing on another level, who am I to say that he can't because we won't allow 10 days in the Fall. Let's take this a step farther, why not allow baseball coaches to have a team during the Fall season? Maybe during the whole month of August. It's not like baseball is going to threaten basketball and football, right? Oh well. I guess we'll have to rely on Dad's to coach a baseball team during the Fall.
  4. We always serve hot chocolate on cold days. We brew coffee every game. If the radio station broadcasts a game, the guys doing the games eat free. We've been known to give an ump or two a hot dog and a cold pop, as well. Depending how the game went, that is.
  5. Didn't know that Tom was that well known. Usually, scouts keep to themselves or mix with the crowd somewhere. It's great to hear about a scout like Tom.
  6. I found this while looking around on some baseball sites. It's Tom Baker's site that he has put together. It's kind of rough, but he does have some interesting info. The two I liked was "Past Amatuer Drafts" and "I've Been There". Be sure to look at these two. Here's the link: Tom Baker
  7. I'm glad to see some other's here on BGP just as passionate as I am about baseball. These kids deserve to be recongized just as much as those that play basketball and football. Our local newspaper does it's part. If the regional TV would just acknowledge baseball a little more, it would be a start. I know that some stations don't have the people in place to cover baseball. One way to take care of that, is to maybe pick a game or three ( ) a week and report on them. Basketball teams play, at least three games a week, and most of them are highlighted on the nightly and morning sports reports. I feel, along with the rest of you, that it's gonna take coaches and AD's to get baseball more into the media. Maybe us fan's and parent's can help out as well. :thumb:
  8. For once I would have to agree with you. Brandon is very versitle and also athletic. :thumb:
  9. :thumb: Young_cub_05, I'd like to apologize. I misread your post. And I agree with you on your statement. Please forgive my ignorance.
  10. Great posts guys. I agree with most of the statements that is may be hard to cover so many games. Strike3's comments about coaches doing a better job of reporting and promoting are dead on. I would add that AD's also need to do the same. The AD's need to get behind the promotion of baseball as much as they do the other two big sports. As for radio coverage, Knott Central's former baseball booster president asked a local supporter to sponsor a game on our local station. This person agreed. Even though KCC didn't win the game, the station did do another game and said that they may do more. That's a start. I do remember back in the early 90's that this station did call some games and I enjoyed listening. We all do need to get behind our boys and get some more people in the stands.
  11. I just want to get some thoughts from some of you baseball guys on here. Do you think that your local media (TV and/or newspaper) is fair to baseball. I don't think it is. Our local newspaper does cover baseball pretty good. They have every score, the highlights from the game and pictures. The paper also does a nice job on our Little League. The regional news is different. Every now then we might see a score or two and that's it. This really upsets me. The HS football teams get a lot of coverage as well as the basketball teams. They both get "Teams of the Week", "Play of the Week", "Player of the Week", and so on. Even if a kid that plays basketball and/or football signs with a college team, they get recognized. Baseball players do not. And if thay have, let me know. I'd really like to know. Why can't they give baseball it's due? There are kids out there that only play baseball. They choose to do so. Don't they deserve to get some recognition as well? I've been to a few college's baseball websites and looked at rosters to see someone that I did not know that had sighned. It really blows my mind. I have talked to one sports reporter in particular that is no longer in Kentucky and now is doing something for another network. This conversation took place long before he hit the bigtime. I won't give his name. Anyway, he kind of said that the reason the TV media doesn't report much on baseball is because the people in charge think it's not popular enough. That's true. The state isn't known for baseball. But, he went on to say that if the stations could give some of these kids some kudos it would make it better and probably make that player feel good as well. They play just as hard on the diamond as do the other players on the football field and the hard court. BGP is the best way to know what is going on regionally. And probably will be for a long time. So, what are your thoughts? And please keep the names of newspapers, TV stations, and reporters out of this discussion. I'd like to see this thread to stay a while. *Moderator's, I know this discussion is a little risky. But, can we see how it goes? As long as no one says any names, of course. I would really appreciate it.*
  12. Congrats JD! :dancingpa What positions did JD play? And what HS did he play at? Sorry, I'm not sure who the Thorobred's are.
  13. Katrina, I would like to commend you on your post. It's true that a lot of posters will say that this player is the best or that player is the best. And it's true that the 14th has a lot of talent. Leslie is a very good team. They could be tops this upcoming season. I really like your comment about proving it on the field. You can be called the best all day long. But, if you don't prove it on the field, you can't be called the best. So who is the best player in the 14th? I am not going to say because I don't get to see a lot of games and I can't really say who is. The games that I do see, I see some great plays by players who aren't called the best in these threads. And I see great plays by those who are. I really get tired of reading post by so called experts who say that that one player is the best and continue to do so. I tend to take more credibility with those that give a top ten or a top five. Strike3, earle, and mr. umpire are great examples of posters with crediblity. If someone is going to declare a player as the best, back it up. Tell us why. I think that you have done that with Hendrix. Hendrix is a class act. He sounds like he works hard. I really hope that he can go to a real good D1 program. He deserves to. This best debate is giving me an idea about something that I will post in another thread.
  14. How'd I miss this post? I don't think so. You must not travel with the team very much. There are a few catchers that are worthy of being called a catcher.
  15. Chris Hord, RHP, Lafayette HS, Lexington, KY has committed and will sign this week with Eastern Kentucky University.
  16. How true. How true. It's the same here in the 14th. The buddy system.
  17. I don't want to say that these guys that you are posting as "the best" aren't. But, let's have the coaches decide this. When you say they are the best, it just puts pressure on a player. What happens if one these kids has a bad season. You are just leaving them open for un-needed critcism. Why not just state that they will be good behind the plate and at bat. Best is just to vague before the season starts. And we are 5 months from the first game. Hey, I've been guilty of stating a player as the best. I no longer will do that. That will be left up to the coaches and/or the media(which never say anything about baseball anyway, and is another topic for another time.) at the end of the year. JMO.
  18. Was this memo sent to the KHSAA as evidence of recruiting? And, if it wasn't, why not? Again, if not, it needs to be sent to the KHSAA if you or the person that showed this to you has the original memo. Don't just post on BGP to "stir the pot". Send it.
