  1. I thought some of you baseball guys might like this pic.
  2. I know it has been a long time since Hammonds has had a team to go to a regional final, or to win a regional title. His team did win the 55th last year and upset a very good Lee County team, and I don't want to hear about the 8th grader pitching that game, the rest of the starters were on the field, it doesn't matter. What Hammonds has done in the past is to take his teams to semi-state finals, been in the state championship tourney, and has had a few boys go onto play on the college level and two that were looked at to go pro, but they chose another path. He has a few players, right now, that may be college bound. I'm not knocking Dean, he's a good coach, but to make it as one of the best, you better have more than just regional titles. That's not going to cut it.
  3. Some very good post by you guys... and girl. Dust off those cleats, take the rubber band from around the glove and take out the ball, grab a bat, and head to the field. It's time to play some baseball. I just want to wish those that are trying out for the first, second, third... time, good luck. And I wish all a healthy and productive season. :thumb:
  4. I'll speak for the KCC boys, Caleb Hall and Brandon Smith are consistent hitters for the team. Both lead in batting average and RBI's.
  5. Yea. After I looked at it again, I saw that. Not usually that dumb, it was a rough day yesterday.
  6. Didn't say that they beat them by 5, 6, or any other amount of runs. And, I know that Lee pitched an 8th grader, but the KCC team was motivated for that game, they were ready for that game, and they were going to win that game no matter who pitched. If Thomas or Osborne would have pitched, it may have played out differernt, never know. :thumb:
  7. Ouch! KCC has to play JBS in the first round. OK, is it me or could two of the other three teams have played in the first round and only have one bye team? All the more reason to seed people! :madman:
  8. At the end of the season KCC had two goals. One was to win the district title. The second was to beat Lee Co. Not to crush them, but to win. Just to show the other's in the 14th that they could beat the best team in the region. I don't think it would have mattered if Lee had their best pitcher on the mound, KCC was bound and determined to beat them. Hammonds prepared them well. I believe that during the practices that they had after the district, he made sure that the team stayed focused. No mistake during practice was overlooked. If one was made, they went through it over and over until it wasn't made. That's a sign of a great coach.
  9. Good win boys. :thumb: Looks like that KCC bus is a rollin'.

  11. I'll agree with that. One player will have a good season, while another may not. Being cosistent is the key. And I would say all three have been consistent in the past couple of seasons. I will have to add that Smith caught for most of the season last year for the first time. When he was a Freshman, he only played the C position 3 or 4 times. If that much. Bowling has a good arm. I've only seen him catch a few games and I timed his throws, during the game, and in between innings. I got a pop time of 2.1 during a throwdown for a runner stealing and 1.9-2.0 on a throw before the inning started. Not bad. Leslie's catcher, I have only seen once. I can't say anything about him until I see more of him.
  12. I'll help MRUMPIRE out here. This is from the book that was kept by the team stats guy. Smith didn't catch all year. He did play at SS and pitched 3 games. Most of his time was spent behind the plate, though. Def. stats Smith had were 81 PO (Put Outs) last season. 63 of those were from the catching position. And of those 63, 32 were from runners caught stealing. Offense AB-113 Hits -47 Runs- 42 BA -.416 RBI's-36 C. Hall was right behind him with a .398 BA. 36 runs and 40 RBI's.
  13. He's a good coach, I don't think that he'll make that mistake again.
  14. I'd probably argue right back. This looks good. I'll pass it on.
  15. Sounds like a great season workout regiment. Strike3, you should be a coach. :thumb:
  16. I would have to disagree. I believe that players should lift at least 1-2 times a week. Nothing like a full workout, more of a lite workout is OK. They need to keep in shape during the season.
  17. Good list Earle. I'd add R. Hall at 3rd/KCC. He did a great job at the hot corner after being moved from 2nd. E. Potter/KCC RHP. Potter is just an 8th grader and pitched great over the Summer. Jackson City has a very good OF, Combs, I believe.
  18. Not too good. I don't think either one went very far in the minors.
  19. :thumb: I could have put either one of those teams in the top ten, but I feel this is how it will be by season's end.
  20. This is how I see it. 1. PCC 2. June Buchanan 3. Lee Co. 4. Leslie 5. Jackson City 6. Estill 7. Hazard 8. Letcher Central 9. Jackson City 10.Knott Central
  21. Louisville Slugger has released it's pre season All Americans. And the lone Kentuckian is Clint Tilford, from Heath HS in Paducah. Here's a complete list: http://www.baseball-news.com/allamericans/currenthsallamericans.htm
  22. There are pitch counts for a reason. It helps the coach to keep count on the pitches that the pitcher has thrown so that he doesn't destroy his arm. If anyone with this mentality wants to pitch beyond HS, you better listen to the coach when he says it's time to come out and ice the arm.
  23. Great debate going on here. My views are the same as Strike3 and Sticky's. A pitcher can't pitch everyday, unless he's a closer. And the last time I checked, there aren't that many closer's in HS baseball, and still, I wouldn't let them pitch every day. Icing, conditioning, workouts, running, and mechanics are essential to a pitcher. If he doesn't do these things, Tommy John surgery may be in his future. Any young pitcher's out there needs to heed Strike3's words and click on those links that he posted earlier.
