  1. Mike and Mike broadcast their show from Church Hill Downs this morning. :sssh: Sorry Scribe. I had to let you know.
  2. I haven't seen any talk about the 14th on here in a while, so here's an update. The top 10 teams are: Hazard - 15-6 (Tough schedule and still just 6 losses.) Knott Central 13-1 (Good record, but from a weak schedule) Perry Central 13-5 (Probably the best team in the region.) Estill County 11-5 (Even though their record doesn't show it, #2 team in the 14th. Very tough schedule.) Powell County - 11-6 Lee County - 8-6 Letcher County Central - 8-10 (A surprise that this team isn't better.) Breathitt - 7-6 Wolfe - 7-6 Leslie County - 6-8 Hazard is 11-2 in the region KCC is 8-1 Perry Central is 8-0 in the region Estill is 3-3 Next best record in the region is Letcher Central with a 7-2 record.

  4. I like these quotes from the Channel 5 report. ""You would think they would get someone to drive them with the cash they got. Why not?" witness Brian Rogers said." and... ""It's unbelievable how people can keep getting in trouble there -- it really, it blows my mind," Brett Mentzel said."
  5. CC will win a few games. He did have a bad start last April, but finished strong. Will he do that this season? Who knows. I hope he does. Tex will be fine. I think it's the whole "playing for the Yank's" thing that gets into one's head. It's the most stressful team to play for. It's the biggest stage and the players have to deliver or else hear it from fans, media, and the brass.
  6. Ok... Rick did something way back in Hawaii as an assistant of some sort. Hasn't done anything illegal since, that we know of. John has done nothing, that we know of. So, looks like this is a pretty done deal. Both are clean and have had no violations in a long time (Cal 0). So, this whole thread is a waste of space. What we got was what Rick did while in Hawaii, and John not knowing about something. Both have proven that they are great coaches. Both have proven that they can "dance" with the best of them. And, both have proven that you can make a lot of money at their profession. :notworthy:

  8. Bluegrass, Lafayette was one of the best places that we have visited. I enjoyed it a lot. There have been a few other places that I enjoyed going to as well. All have been great experiences. One thing that Coach Hammonds instilled in the boys that he coached was respect for the game and for the other team. My boys have taken that with them beyond the field. Baseball is a life lesson. And, yea, I try to tune it out (the heckling), but I am reminded that not every coach would put up with that. Most coaches would not put up with the disrespect. I guess this is a trend and all of us old guys will have to put up with it. Cooperstown, when we have gone to away games, almost all of us baseball parents would meet down the outfield fence line and talk about the game. I like the setup you have with that tournament.
  9. I kind of expect this on the college and pro level, but high school shouldn't ever happen.
  10. I know there are a few of us old guys on here that love this great game. It's somewhere you can go, get a hot dog, some peanuts, and sit in the stands or bleachers and watch these young men play this great game. I've been watching and/or coaching since I was 8 years old in Ohio. And everywhere that I have gone, it's been a great experience. There are a couple of fans that will say things to get the pitcher or batter un-nerved a little. That's OK. You know, "Here batter, batter, batter.", or "Hey pitcher." is ok. And I can't think of a time that I didn't want to go watch a game. But, this season it's a little different. I want to go out and sit and enjoy a game and support our team. I want to be able to cheer these young men on. And anyone that knows me, I'm pretty vocal when a player makes an outstanding play. I'll pat every player I can on the back and tell them they played a good game. I do this to our players and the opposing team's players. That's sportsmanship and that is what is great about this game. No matter where I went, I have met a parent or coach from another team and had a great conversation with them and they'll tell our players good game. That's baseball. What's not baseball is for a few in the stands to yell at the opposing players and say mean, nasty things to them. Making fun of their names or how small or big they are. That is not baseball. While these people saying these things, parents and administration is sitting there getting a good chuckle out of it. It's a bad rep that a team will get when this goes on. I have been apart of a team that everywhere they went and when at home, was told that these are the best young men and one of the best places to come to watch a game. It was enjoyable. Not anymore. I may go watch a few more college games for awhile.
