  1. The last data I saw on gambling had 580K to Campbell, 1.1 million to Kenton and 2.6 million to Boone. Sorry, I cannot recall all the districts. These were annual numbers.
  2. He does have a point on this.
  3. Will make this easy for apples to apples. Boone Final Seek 2,713.14 less transportation 371.28 less at risk 123.95 NET SEEK AMOUNT 2,217.91 2,100.46 State adjustment due to local effort Kenton Final Seek 3,254.95 less transportation 407.92 less at risk 152.55 NET SEEK AMOUNT 2,694.48 1,833.20 state adjustment due to local effort Campbell Final Seek 3,312.77 less transportation 559.13 less at risk 146.26 NET SEEK AMOUNT 2,607.38 2,082.61 state adjustment due to local effort Beechwood Final Seek 2,871.88 less transportation 20.29 less at risk 56.28 NET SEEK AMOUNT 2,795.31 1,546.25 state adjustment due to local effort Ft. Thomas Final Seek 2,734.76 less transportation 3.25 less at risk 36.12 NET SEEK AMOUNT 2,695.39 1,741.53 state adjustment due to local effort The deductions allow for a better picture what the above districts receive to educate in the classroom. The state adjustments due to local effort is the amount the state deducts from the district due to money raised within the district locally. As stated, Ft. Thomas is hit but not as bad as others.
  4. I think the title is NO CHILD Left Behind. It's actual application is except when found beneficial in a measurement loophole.
  5. That is correct. 75 center is taking total amounts from one end to the other without consideration what is actually measured. For example, there is a transportation amount Ft. Thomas does not qualify for but other districts do. When that is added/subtracted against the measured amounts a better balance is determined. Same goes to the above categories you mentioned. They are still hit by SEEK but nowhere near other districts.
  6. Actually Birdsfan I think you spoke to me about this once before some time ago. Disabilities includes many things and yes, there are issues that do involve your beloved school. Been there. Done that.
  7. The one area of note about the CATS scores that need to be noticed is the marked improvement in scores at the elementary school level. It is clear the investments and efforts on early child and reading are starting to pay off and these programs are only a couple of years old.
  8. You are correct. The only real measures that have been hurtful to the NorKy schools are the gap issues in the disability criteria. The independent school districts do not have to carry the burden anywhere near the degree nor do they provide the services to a level to encourage retainment of such students. Take this measurement away and then measure all your districts again under NCLB and "boom" major improvement on results.
  9. That is nothing compared to Campbell, Kenton, Boone, Fayette and Jefferson County school systems.
  10. Not only that but such costs are not even available under SEEK funding.
  11. Very good job for all schools but I question how hard the challenge really is with so few, if any gap measurements to be judged on.
  12. First what you tell many county operations is to cease to exist. There are too many counties in this state that have 10,000 in population or less. There are no economies of scale, eliminate the duplication of paid offices to support are larger service area and millions open up to the local area. That is number one. Second, you tell the folks of other over funded areas their revenue from the state will be capped for the time being and the state will establish a minimum/maximum funding range between all districts. Future SEEK increases will go to the areas who have the lowest amounts until that min/max range is obtained. Currently, there is a range difference from 2.5K in SEEK to over 6K in SEEK from one district to another. For the record, Ft. Thomas is not the lowest SEEK funded school district.
  13. These comments show the problem of the SEEK funding formula and knowing the comments that were going to make I will ask this question. Why are the districts that receive the lowest SEEK amount the best test result CATS schools? And for the rural areas that do not have a good tax base I ask this: How is it fair for a two story home in a subdivision in Ft. Thomas to be valued on the tax rolls at virtually what it is actually worth for taxation purposes yet the poor, rural area of a couple hundred acres is capped at $200 per acre for taxation purposes. Note to posters, next time you drive to Lexington and pass every horse farm ask yourself would you be willing to pony up $200 per acre for that land? It is an absolute crime the vast majority of this state pays taxes based on true property valuations and the rest receive significant tax shelter.
  14. I'm all for thowing out CATS, but if we do make sure SEEK is right behind it. Kids in NorKY, Lexington and Lousiville deserve the same amount of support as the rest of the state.
  15. Not really. I am not aware of many, if any transfers based on academic concerns. The most recent options of NCLB and with "failing" schools that are forced to allow transfers have an extraordinary low transfer request - nationwide. The schools in NorKY that had to offer that option had virtually no one act on it. The actual numbers of transfers of record are in large part due to employment of a parent in a different district. The ones I do know about are strictly athletic reasons. I find it most interesting we have a comfort to talk about who is better than others in athletic programs but not so much in the academic measurement. Yet, confirmed by a few posts there are so many measurements and considerations that make up a school success, outside of singular test score results. I think it would be virtually impossible to label any high school as failing academically. None in NorKY.
  16. A building has never made a good student. A teacher sometimes makes a difference to a student. Most of the time it is the parents that make the student how they become.
  17. This is one of those feel good points as if all will work out well if so much choice is allowed. So I will ask this. We are a KY High School site, name the high schools in Kentucky that are bad and students are forced to attend. I hear these comments about how and such, so taking it up a notch where would this apply in our state? Which schools do you consider to be failing and/or doing poorly?
  18. Yep! Clearly against Ryle students and others. To have opposing team students under the 5th grade without parents is what CCHS wanted to accomplish!
  19. And in the course of history, time and again laws come about to push the right above the opinion. There are particular exceptions, granted. Abortion is one, if for no other reason medical advances have made the procedure and need obsolete. Yet, there are many more instances where laws have made the difference over the objections of personal opinion for the better of our community.
  20. Yeah, its a shame something like the law and rights get in the way to do what one really wants to do!
  21. Just waiting to hear how Camels have the largest school in Northern KY and always seem to fall short at the varsity level, how the Camels should manage their fields, etc. Always something. Kinda like a sports announcer who does not have a clue. Not worth listening to after a while. I agree with Fair and Foul, between the lines is clear. I do notice the preoccupation with Camels and no posting of his school.
  22. Would you FIRE someone or NOT hire someone if you understood that person to be gay or atheist?
  23. Perhaps to add a few..... Respect for the Constitution, the powers of the states and the role of federal government. The core belief to the Bill of Rights and seperation of powers. Understanding our leadership role in the world and the beacon of freedom we represent. Many of the items listed do not conflict with the basis of our country. However, it is sad to see that a person with inherent sexual disposition still suffers from a predetermined judgement of themselves by others instead of judgement to their actions and deeds.
