  1. Congrats to Belfry! Having only seen the Eagles this year, I was skeptical of Belfry pulling out this win (particularly being on the road). Now I really am sorry I didn’t make the trip to Paintsville to see this outstanding game. Best of luck to the Pirates in the second season….JC, I’m sure, will rebound from the loss and use it for motivation in their pursuit of a state championship.
  2. My thoughts and prayers are with the Burton family. Tragedies such as this are particularly heartfelt when such a young life is abruptly taken. I pray God’s comfort is upon those affected by this dreadful loss.
  3. Not only did Dixie beat Campbell last year then get “rolled” the following week, since 2000, the Colonels have followed the win against Campbell with a loss in 6 out of the last 8 years. Only in the 2004 – 05 seasons did Dixie put together consecutive wins after facing the Camels. We can put this little bit of trivia in the “inconsequential facts” column. However, if the pattern holds true, and Dixie wins this Friday night…odds are they will loose in their opening round playoff game.
  4. LOL....Yes I did forget the GW fiasco...and am still trying to repress that memory.
  5. You’re right about the points yielded by Dixie this year. The Colonels offensive output (277) is nearly a mirror image of points allowed (279) through their nine games. Campbell, at least on paper, seems to have a much stingier defense. What’s the old saying: “Defense wins championships”? Campbell has allowed an average of 17 points per game in ’08, but the X factor is how valuable is the Camel’s pride in this matchup? Not knowing about this group of players, could they have already checked out on football or will a win against Dixie salvage some facet of this season? Win or loose, Dixie lives to fight another day but I would think the Colonels would want some momentum going into the playoffs.
  6. That spectacle might even have a pay-per-view audience.
  7. Do you mean Matney and Haywood are going to square off at mid-field?
  8. Since Ashland is idle this week, I’m interested in finding out what those close to these two programs think about the upcoming game. Dixie Heights, I see, is currently 3 – 6 coming off a loss to Ryle last week. Campbell, standing at 5 – 4, is experiencing a 2 game skid coming into the season finale for both teams. In 1998, these two did not play, but since then, Dixie has rattled off 9 straight victories over Campbell. Any ideas what to expect this Friday?
  9. No need to apologize...you guys earned those wins. If roles were reversed, I would have corrected the record too….besides, you bring other redeeming qualities to this web site doc…Im glad you’re here.
  10. The football stats are impressive and they match the physical stature of this young man...but the high GPA impresses me perhaps more than the gridiron accomplishments. For 99.99% of these players, there is a moment which life after football comes sooner rather than later…sounds like Mr. Logan will be fine after he hangs up the cleats.
  11. I guess Adam was pulling his facts from last years media guide...back when Logan was 6'2" and Raceland had two in a row...thanks for pointing that out doc.
  12. Surely you’re not implying our Daily Independent didn’t get the facts straight! Great article though on Logan.
  13. As I stated EKU, I have only seen JC in person and it was their overall speed which impressed me more than their strength. Perhaps it is because I was already expecting a strong, physical group but simply didn’t realize that speed was as much or more of a weapon last Friday then just the strength factor. Belfry may match that speed…I don’t know. I think JC can win out if it simply becomes a slug fest, but that might play more into Belfry’s game plan too. FWIW…on a side note, Belfry is on Ashland’s schedule next season.
  14. I was hoping that was the case....thanks rfcinky. Congrats to young Mr. Locey and the Red Devils!
  15. Having only seen JC play in person, I am at a bit of a disadvantage predicting who will take this game. Many posters have alluded to the strength of Central, but the one aspect of this Eagle team which made an impression on me last Friday was their overall team speed. It’s hard for me to imagine that Belfry can match this factor. Although the Eagles have yielded twice as many points as Belfry this season, it doesn’t appear the Pirates accomplished this stat against comparable opponents. Offensively, both teams have eclipsed the 400 point margin, but something tells me this will be a ball control, defensive contest. However...if JC can get to the corners as quickly as I have seen them do, Belfry will have many, many looks at the back of a black jersey.
  16. I understand Russell kicked a game winning field goal. If this is true, can anyone provide the players name who made the kick?
  17. This season certainly has flown by. I can hardly believe the final week of the regular schedule is upon us. Although the Rams have earned this undefeated season thus far, all I want to add to this thread is: Villanova vs Georgetown 1985 Buster Douglas vs Mike Tyson 1990 Giants vs Patriots 2008 David vs Goliath 950 BC Oh yeah….and West Carter vs Raceland 2007
  18. Congratulations to the Rams!! Great job tonight...I was able to listen to the final few minutes on the radio. Coming from behind in hostile territory is the mark of a good team...best of luck next week in finishing out the regular season UNDEFEATED!
  19. Ashland ran into a buzz saw tonight. Johnson Central is a solid team...the Tomcats simply did not have an answer. Congratulations to the Eagles on winning the District.
  20. Getting ready to head over to Putnam...wanted to stop by and wish Raceland well tonight. This is going to be a fantastic game but this year is all about the Rams... See you guys after the game. Blank :fight: at :fire: the :fight: Hank!
  21. One never knows what the good Lord has in store for us...but unless something catastrophic happens, yes...I wouldn’t miss this game for anything. In fact, I just returned from Putnam…the field is in excellent shape right now considering the number of games played on it and being the end of October. Weather-wise, it’s going to be a perfect night for football.
  22. I sure hope to be there! The last time JC came into Putnam, it was a very hard fought and memorable game...I think this one will be too.
  23. Thanks for the well wishes oldrambler...best of luck to the Rams tomorrow night too... I hope we get to meet back here tomorrow night with a smile on our face.
  24. The record for these two programs going head to head since 2000 is: 2000 – Did not play 2001 – Ashland 38 / JC 14 (H) 2002 – Ashland 43 (H) / JC 0 2003 – Did not play 2004 – Did not play 2005 – Ashland 13 (H) / JC 10 – Ashland will travel to Paintsville for the next three games. 2006 – Ashland 7 / JC 35 (H) 2006 P – Ashland 21 / JC 28 (H) 2007 – Ashland 33 / JC 67 (H) 2008 – Senior Night – Putnam Stadium
  25. I have a difficult time explaining why this is, but your right Ram…Ashland does play well against JC. Some of the recent scores may not indicate how close the Tomcats hang with the Eagles, but I know when Ashland comes out focused and determined, things don’t come quite so easy for Central. This is going to be a long 24 hours. --->
