  1. I tried the Raceland ones first, but the Ashland version just seemed to fit better Doc...
  2. We won’t know until after the game, but whether it’s the majority or not, I believe the Raceland QB will make his presence known this Friday. I was very impressed with the way he led the Ram offense against Boyd last week…he didn’t melt under fire. For the Tomcats, Sam Hunter has really improved over the offseason. I expect Raceland’s pass rush will be much more ferocious than GC’s, but I didn’t realize Sam had the running ability he showed against the Muskies. This battle of the Quarterbacks will be one I watch with great interest.
  3. I’m not sure about others, but I’m definitely looking forward to the future RAM! The past is much too dismal when you consider the Rams have escaped Putnam with the W for three consecutive years. This IS a NEW season!
  4. WOW! I’m not surprised Boyle won this game, but I sure wasn’t expecting such a lopsided score. Was most of the scoring done early on or was it spread throughout the 4 quarters? I’m anxious to see the stats from this game. Good luck to the Rebels (although luck may not be needed much).
  5. Just got back in from Putnam Stadium...we dodged some real downpours this evening. The field is in good shape for tomorrow's contest...not perfect, but ok.
  6. Uh oh, Lions....watch out for the "Hail Mary" on Raceland's first play.
  7. As of 2:30 today (Thursday), the game will still be played on Friday night. "Meet the Tomcats" was cancelled for this evening.
  8. Actually, GC wanted to move the freshmen and JV to Putnam Stadium next week, but I believe a deal has been arranged for the non-varsity Muskies to play at Ashland on Labor Day weekend. Is the GC field not ready to go? Considering all the rain, Putnam’s field has drained fairly well although there are still a few “soft” spots out there. Overall, the surface is very playable. True! I do hate “messed up” lines. As for Ashland’s history of rescheduling games, I can think of times in the past which, as a spectator, was glad it was moved because of severe weather. I also know there has been consideration given to all the teams (Verity 7th and 8th grade, about 6 JFL teams, Freshmen and JV) which play at Putnam and their respective schedules…sometimes, it just made more sense moving the varsity game. I plan on being at BC this Saturday, so I really hope Ashland plays on Friday as scheduled.
  9. Apparently, I was looking for something other than the obvious. Yes, I agree its interesting to note the sheer numbers of schools/ students and players in Texas. I lived in Houston for while and football is definitely king in that state. Living in Georgia, Florida and Pennsylvania too (all great football states), not even Florida compares to the interest found in Texas when it comes to high school football.
  10. …maybe a bit of "all the above" too. Lets face it though, Russell has been (and still is) one of the more recognizable teams at the state level. I agree with you that the Russell vs East Carter doesn’t exactly make one want to camp out in the ticket line…A win is a win though...Good luck.
  11. Heck...I’m excited about Musketeer football. Being a fan of high school ball in general, how can you not take notice at all the positive energy coming out of GC right now? I hope this game lives up to anticipation the fans are experiencing. Good rivalries are hard to beat…this game may be a good start.
  12. If the main problem Raceland has is a poor attitude, the good news is that should be the easiest thing to fix. You can’t coach speed, God given talent, size or strength, but an attitude adjustment can take place in the blink of an eye. Coach Vanderhoof didn’t just fall of a turnip truck…I believe he will find a way to get these Rams ready.
  13. If anyone exactly duplicates a trademarked logo, without some form of acceptable, permission, then the owner of that logo has the right to protect their property. From a practical standpoint, however, I agree that it seems a bit ridiculous for a university to waste its time and money going after a high school for trademark infringement. Legally, the university could successfully win its case, but would the university truly be damaged? If a high school really liked a particular logo, why not change it just enough to call it their own? There’s more than one way to skin a cat…
  14. Hey Ryan....where are all the Red Devil posters?
  15. Ohhh....so THAT'S what the "Tradition never graduates" phrase means...
  16. So…was the same person responsible for diagnosis AND treatment?
  17. Believe me Ram…I will NEVER underestimate the value of a solid line. I think this group of Ashland linemen have the talent and strength, but simply haven’t had the opportunity to gain experience….yet. Speaking of linemen, can any GC folks describe what to expect from the Musketeer D-line (and O-line too for that matter)?
  18. After a particularly poignant wake up call last weekend, I can’t imagine any Ashland player taking GC lightly. The Tomcats have had three straight home opening losses to a team which, at least on paper, should not have won the contest. (Disclaimer: Before I incur the wrath of my Raceland friends, I’m referring to the old 1A / 5A debate). For the past several years though Option V, there is always a bunch of talk about how GC has finally turned the corner and it never seems to come to fruition. Perhaps this will finally be the season which Greenup captures that success and ferocity which has eluded them in recent years. I remember the days when playing the Musketeers were not considered an automatic W for Ashland…
  19. “Surprising” is an understatement. With the fresh start of a new year, hope abounds in most programs and certainly Ashland has reason to believe it will enjoy a successful season. You and I both know, however, that the true test will be administered on the playing field and not on message boards. Come Friday night (Saturday for some), we will know for sure how far this Tomcat squad has come, and also, how far it needs to go.
  20. After speaking with several folks who attended the Campbell Co scrimmage, it appears the general consensus is not very flattering for the Tomcats. Although Ashland does return several key skill players, they lost a group of linemen which had played together for several years. The big question mark, which could linger for several weeks, will be how effective the linemen will perform…particularly on the offensive side of the ball. Time answers all questions, and it will this one too. Ashland has struggled in their opening games, going 2 -4 during the past few years. So, if you are Greenup Co, it may be a good time to catch the Tomcats
  21. It’s a bit disappointing to hear Graybeards assessment of the Tomcats getting “dominated” in their most recent scrimmage. I trust that Coach Hart and company will go to work on shoring up any weaknesses revealed during that practice with Campbell Co. I look for GC to come out really fired up for this contest. There has been a whole lot of talk coming out of our Greenup neighbors this off season. Its great to hear that program is headed for brighter days. As for this opening game, I don’t know how far the hype will carry the Muskies though…how will they respond after getting a good ol’ fashioned rap in the mouth? Time will tell if there is finally some substance behind this hype.
  22. Raceland generally is one of those teams which start the season as if they already have a game or two under their belt. The Rams have only lost two season openers over the past 10 years. Coach Vanderhoof and staff do a great job getting their team ready to compete from the opening kickoff. Coming off a stellar year in 08, I see Raceland riding away from Cannonsburg with one of their patented fire engine escorts. I find it hard to believe there is a Raceland team which cant/wont hit (as referenced from several here). Are there any Rams taking the field this Saturday which remember the sting from the only lost handed them in 08? If so, you fellas finally have an opportunity to get things back on track. If not, you may find the Lions can get your season rolling at 0 – 1…and then you can look forward to another form of feline eagerly awaiting your arrival.
  23. I thought I might read War and Peace, but wanted something a bit more involved so I opted for this thread… 17 pages…844 replies and 21,555 views? You gotta be kidding me. What are you guys mixing in the Kool-Aid down there? Joking aside, it’s great to see such excitement in our neighboring community with the GC program.
