  1. I still give Mr. Brossart two years before I make judgement.
  2. Nice welcome gift to the new coach!!
  3. Last nights show was pretty good but the series is not what it was two years ago. I think the final show will be the end of Tony. Anyone else thinking that?
  4. Good post Sportsguy. I think you hit the nail on the head with the statement that some schools wil always have an advantage over others. You can't make a level playing field by seperating public or private or even independent. Once you do that people will still cry that their program still isn't winning the state title and they want to change something else until their program does win state.
  5. Scribe I think thats what some people want. Sad but true. I think the system is fine the way it is.
  6. Is there a list of all the moderators? Just be interested to know who does all that stuff.
  7. SportsGuy, No sorry I wasn't at the game. Finals start Monday at UK so I have been studying instead of going to games:( . Thanks again for the info on Rasso and Tassini. I never put two and two together when i would hear about Rasso at X. His career at St. X has been awesome so i'm glad it started at CCH. Also thanks again to Sportsguy and all the other members for their help with paying students ways on BGP. :thumb:
  8. Ok SportsGuy tell me the story. I can't believe i'm asking a beechwood guy for help.
  9. Thanks SportGuy I'm not really sure where either coach went after their short careers at CCH. This was well before my time and actually when my dad was in high school. I asked a few "older" CCH grads about this and to their knowledge they always thought both left coaching all together. If anyone else has info as to where these two coaches went to we would love to have it. I would love to see some history of the beechies and the birds if anyone is planning on doing either of these great programs.
  10. Covington Catholic Football History I am a current student at UK and a 2001 grad of CovCath Covington Catholic decided to start a football program in the mid 60's so their first varisty year would be 1967. This was a very big step for a school that at the time was known around the state for their baseball and basketball programs. The enrollment was large enough to field a football team without hurting any other sports program 1967: Coach Steve Rasso 5-4-1 This coach had great success in terms of the schools first varsity team had a winning record. Coach Rasso couldn't continue being coach the next season. 1968: Coach Tony Lanham 6-4 The second season and second winning record for the baby CovCath football program. Like Coach Rasso this would be the only year that Mr. Lanham would coach at CovCath. 1969: Coach Rudy Tassini 15-25 1969-72 With a very young program Mr. Tassini struggled to build the program from the previous years. Yet still not a bad record with such a young club. 1973: Coach Fred Bernier 8-11 1973-74 With the program in trouble the boosters had thoughts of doing away with the expensive program and giving more money to the sports that were performing on the field. When the football team was started basketball was winning region every year and making it to the state finals. Baseball was also having gret success. With football struggling the topic was bring in a coach with winning experience. 1975: Coach Lynn Ray 221-122 1975-Present Lynn Ray had coached at Lloyd memorial as the freshman coach and a varsity assistant at Boone County High School. He was brought in to save a struggling program and make the team a dominating team in NKY and the state. His first few years started off rocky and the talk of doing away with football was still a boosters topic. As everyone knows football is very expensive and a private school like CovCath doesn't take any money still to this day from tuition to fund sports. The boosters decided to stay with football and knew Lynn Ray was the coach to make it happen. During this same time CovCath built the current Wooten Field on campus and it was time for the program to shine. The team in the late 70's made the CovCath program known in the area but not in the state. 1980's- The team of 1982 is still to this day the best who ever walked to halls. Many point out that they never won state but if you ask Lynn Ray the best team he has ever coached he will say without a doubt the 1982 team. They were beat by Highlands in the playoffs which started the intense rivarly between the two schools 1987- CovCath sent their first team to the state championship and it started the dream of boosters of getting the football program visible by the entire state. In a game that was predicted to be a blow out by Pudacah Tilghman CovCath won 16-6. 1988- With another great season and very talented team returning most of their players CovCath again returned to state and was playing Paducah Tilghman once again. It was the game Paducah Tilghman was suppose to win big. Turning out to be a great game CovCath came away with the victory 24-21 1988- The school and boosters showed their dedication the football program by building a new sports facility behind the school. With locker rooms and a great weight facility the Colonels could now continue their great program. The Scott Knochelman building is named for a true Colonel. Scott put everything he had into the school he believed so strongly in. The building stands as a sign of dedication to CCH sports and a reminder to our late brother who cared so much about the school and his fellow Colonels 1990's This era would see CovCath win 3 state championships and become known as one of the greatest programs in the state of Kentucky. Also during this time CovCath began to schedule Ohio powerhouse schools like St. X and Moeller. The difficult schedules proved to be great in preparing the team for late playoff runs. 1993- Once again the road to the state championship ran through Covington in 3A with CCH beating Lincoln County 28-13. A great Lincoln county team played their hearts out only to see the new born powerhouse take the championship from them. 1994- Covington Catholic returned to state for the schools 4th state title and the second repeat in school history. Lynn Ray's teams were overshadowed by Beechwood in Northern Kentucky but they became a 3A powerhouse 1997- The 5th state championship team was loaded with seniors who were freshman when the team last won state in 94. The seniors were undefeated as freshman and wanted to make a point to leave CCH with a state ring of their own. This was also my freshman year at CovCath. In a very cold and awesome game CovCath beat Hopkinsville 21-13. In a game that could have gone either way CovCath stopped Hopkinsville late in the game on the 1 yard line. 2000- present The last few CCH teams have been through ups and downs. Each year they made the playoffs but with records that were nothing to write home about. In the past two years they have stunned many like last year beating Lexington Catholic and Highlands only to be beaten by Rockcastle County in the state semis. This years CCH team ran into a very talented Lexington Catholic team that had revenge on their mind. On a late field goal LexCath beat CCH only to be beaten by Highands in the regional finals. CovCath through the years has become a 3A powerhouse and the future looks bright. Next year they return many players and the freshman football team just went undefeated, the first team since the 97 state champs were freshman in 94. State title #6 is in the near future. I would like to thank Mr. Network for giving high school and college students the chance to remain members of BGP when we can't afford it. Thank You Mr. Network
