I stick with what I said before the season started. Ashland and Rowan County are the two teams to beat in this region. But, this type of schedule breeds improvement. The rest, including West Carter @ home, Russell should win. They are equal in talent this year with West Carter.

Hard to believe but West's schedule has been even softer than Russell's this year and it doesn't get any harder. They have one test the rest of the year against Ashland. So far they are 13-3 but 1-3 against decent teams. Schools do their kids a disservice by completely padding the schedule. It's Cupcake City Baby! Especially this year as the 16th is down. I cannot honestly tell you. I don't personally know this coach so I won't comment on him. What I can tell you is Greenup is still playing well below where they should be this year. This is the weakest this region from top to bottom has been in my memory and Greenup should be competing with Ashland and Rowan Co for honors this year. There is still time and a light at the end of the tunnel as they will draw a cakewalk to Morehead this year, along with Russell. Come on Raceland, make me eat these words. I'll gladly do it. Greenup should be a top three school yearly in this region. I was mainly referring to the past three or four hires by Greenup, although I wasn't clear in my post. I will say that there were two other coaches, just to my knowledge, better qualified, who applied this time and yet were not called for an interview.

The only update is everything remains the same. Poor judgement and bad hires seem to be the norm here. The kids suffer and a program that should constantly be a top 3 in this region, flounders. The 16th is exceptionally weak this year and the Muskies should be in the mix to win it. They are not. It will come down to Rowan Co and Ashland.

Ashland (7-6) and Rowan Co (7-5) are not tearing it up so far this year but they along with possibly West Carter are well ahead of the next tier in the 16th. I do see more room for improvement from the top two. So all is not lost for the one coming out of Morehead this year. Overall, we are as bad from top to bottom as any year I can remember. I know, before someone else says it, my memory ain't what it used to be.:eyeonyou:

Rowan Co and Ashland are atop the 16th with West Carter just behind, for now. But, my goodness the 16th region is extra weak this year. I expect Rowan and Ashland to continue to improve and separate themselves further. At least they should.

You should have said hello. I'd have sprung for a hot dog and a Pepsi. I believe I owe you lunch anyway. Wing is not overrated, unless myself along with the Evansville coaches and several other college coaches can't scout. My money, for this time at least, is on the Ol Duckster's opinion.

I enjoyed getting out to watch this game. Thanks to Mark Swift for providing the Ol Duckster with a quality seat. Wing needs to want the ball! :idunno: He could be outstanding within this region but his team needs to go to him much more and expect him to deliver. Perhaps saving that for when it really counts? Gregg is tenacious. If Wing played with his energy and confidence, who knows how great he could be.

Well Doc, the region is exceptionally weak this year and the only game of note, so far, is the always underachieving Muskies of Greenup. Other than that, they should have won the games they did. They should only lose 4-5 more games during the regular season: Ashland x 2, Rowan Co, West Carter and possibly Greenup or Ironton. I don't know what Ironton has this year. They are currently 8-4, having beaten: Raceland (5-6) twice Fairview (5-5) twice Bracken Co. (6-9) Bath Co (6-7) Lewis Co (2-8) Greenup Co (5-6) I can't get excited this year until they beat Ashland, Rowan or West. The rest of the region is @ the lowest level I've seen in many years. This is a good year to be a little better than average. I wish Russell had Hunt and Davidson playing this year. That would have them in the top tier. Well Duk Dong, It's easy to see that you and I will not agree on this subject. :deadhorse:All local schools have benefited from transfers, then and now. No other coach has given a 7th grader a chance to start varsity in this region, to my knowledge, except Rose Hill when Mayo and crew were there. That decision is paying dividends for Kyle Skaggs. I suppose the people that know us both will have to decide who is more credible.:eyeonyou: Now, back to the thread at hand. This is a very tough loss for the Devils but their district is a good place to be this year.

Yes, but he got there, with probably the second worst team the Devils had in his six years. If not for an injury to Sloane the year before that, in the first quarter of the region final, it would have been two in a row. The following year, the Devils were the favorite, having already beaten Elliott Co twice. Jon Vanhoose goes down in the District Tourney. (The same Vanhoose that broke the Russell scoring record.) So, barring severe injuries, the Devils should have won three years in a row.:eyeonyou:
