The only update is everything remains the same. Poor judgement and bad hires seem to be the norm here. The kids suffer and a program that should constantly be a top 3 in this region, flounders. The 16th is exceptionally weak this year and the Muskies should be in the mix to win it. They are not. It will come down to Rowan Co and Ashland.

So is the new coach a bad hire? Haven't heard much about him just interested in your take.

I will differ from Duck's assessment. Over valued basketball skills from players past hasn't helped. I think Coach Youngman's track record speaks for itself. I think it's way too early to throw him under the bus.

I believe that district is seeded, so if they don't get to the region then it is there own fault.

Based on the talent they had coming back from last year. If they don't get to the region, it would have to be considered a major disappointment.

I cannot honestly tell you. I don't personally know this coach so I won't comment on him. What I can tell you is Greenup is still playing well below where they should be this year. This is the weakest this region from top to bottom has been in my memory and Greenup should be competing with Ashland and Rowan Co for honors this year. There is still time and a light at the end of the tunnel as they will draw a cakewalk to Morehead this year, along with Russell. Come on Raceland, make me eat these words. I'll gladly do it. Greenup should be a top three school yearly in this region.

 

I was mainly referring to the past three or four hires by Greenup, although I wasn't clear in my post. I will say that there were two other coaches, just to my knowledge, better qualified, who applied this time and yet were not called for an interview.

I've seen Greenup play twice this year and they have no where near the talent of Rowan or Ashland, let alone West Carter. They are just not that talented. Got some good parts, but weak overall.

Greenup County shocked the Russell Red Devils and won the 63rd District tournament this year. Lost a close one in a tough first round game to a good West Carter in the first round of the 16th Region tourney. Looks like it was a good hire after all.

It wasn't a shock, it was a coin flip. They both finished 18-14 in a weak four team district. Both cake walked to the regional and lost. Of their 18 wins only five came against teams with a winning record. ( Russell, Pikeville, Fairview, Clinton Co and Ironton, Oh) The win against Ironton was later avenged by the Tigers with a 46 point win, once they had their full compliment of players. So, I wouldn't give Coach Youngman any accolades just yet. The combined record for the teams Greenup defeated was 229-284.
