Close game until the 4th when Boyd pulled away and Russell only scored 4 points. Mayse and Lowe were good down low for Boyd. Skaggs scored 24 for Russell on 8-21 shooting according to the paper. Lowe had a double/double with 15/10.

No wonder Russell cried so much about the Hunt kid transferring to Boyd County. Imagine how bad it would have been had he played for the Lions last night? Will Kidwell be given the same fate as Dodd? Anyone know his record as the boys coach now? Russell should have stuck with Coach Stamper when they had him.

To answer my own question. Kidwell is 28-56 in his 1st three seasons at Russell. Stamper on the other hand was 16-14 in his only season at Russell, and gave OJ Mayo and Rose Hill all they could handle in the 1st round of the 16th Regional tournament. Russell needs to cut ties with Kidwell after this season. They deserve better.

This, of course is jmo opinion but I have to wonder what some of the "Red Devil Lane Experts" are thginking now? Russell had two excellent coaches in Stamper and then Dodd, that may not e the problem but I do know that there are kids that would definately help the Red Devils that are not playing/didn't come out this season.

Also, I have to ask just have to say.....maybe a trip to the sweet 16 was worth a few parents complaining about things they didn't know or didn't like how things were done,uh??

I do hope that Russell can get going, their kids deserve it and after all, that is what it is supposed to be about. Not some parents and/or adults ego's. I'm just sayin'......:idunno:

If not for an injury to Sloane the year before that, in the first quarter of the region final, it would have been two in a row.

 

The following year, the Devils were the favorite, having already beaten Elliott Co twice. Jon Vanhoose goes down in the District Tourney. (The same Vanhoose that broke the Russell scoring record.) So, barring severe injuries, the Devils should have won three years in a row.:eyeonyou:

Duck polishing Dodd. There's a shocker. I graduated during the Dodd era. He had success thanks to some well played persuasion and a turnover in roster. You want to talk about Ashland or Rowan or Fairview benefiting from transfers, no need to look any farther than the Dodd era in Russell. And with that in mind, from all I've witnessed on Red Devil Lane, they've dipped the bottom of the barrel. I think they're in a cycle that will ultimately doom them for years to come basketball wise. I officiated their middle school games a couple of times last season, and they are going to struggle for the foreseeable future. Dodd didn't attempt to do a thing within his own program to help build it (why would he when he could just get the Rose Hill defectors to come on board), and his successor has done nothing but watch it sink deeper.

Well Duk Dong, It's easy to see that you and I will not agree on this subject. :deadhorse:All local schools have benefited from transfers, then and now. No other coach has given a 7th grader a chance to start varsity in this region, to my knowledge, except Rose Hill when Mayo and crew were there. That decision is paying dividends for Kyle Skaggs.

Duck, woulda, shoulda, coulda. Dodd best skill was "attracting players" which is why he should have stayed in college.
