The next two years...they've got quite a soph class too. If this team wasn't starting 18 players for the first time and they had more than ten seniors, it would be Katie bar the door! Fant already has scholarship offers from Illinois and WKU, and he's back next year. Hayes is a much better passer than Hollis was. Stay safe in the storm...hopefully it won't last long.

The Purples become the first team in the series to win on the road. The series began my senior season (1976) in our very first postseason appearance ever. Both teams were superb, but Henderson Co won 7-3 in Henderson that year and went on to give Trinity all it wanted before the Rocks finally pulled it out 28-24! Sic 'em, Purple!!!:ylsuper:

Junior WR Nacarius Fant set school records with 15 receptions and 239 yards in this game! Also, junior QB Devin Hayes tied his school record for completions in one game with 21!:clap:

No need for an apology or shame, Pride...my head told me St X too, but I went with my heart and my heart said Alma Mater!:thumb: Avid Tiger, Long Time Reader, and Oxnard, thanx very much on behalf of the guys in Purple and Gold for recognizing their play and determination tonight. I know that they'll really appreciate your observations! We were in our minivan underneath the stadium at the half listening to the local broadcast of the game. The statistics of both teams were amazingly similar. That told me that, if the guys could tough it out mentally in the second half, they had a real chance to pull off the upset. I met the guys as they were making their way to the field, and I told them that they could come back and win this game...it was not impossible! I have to give them all the credit, as they proved that they could be mentally tough and mature despite the fact that 18 of the 22 starters didn't start last year. The smaller and inexperienced lines on both sides of the ball did a creditable job against the much larger Tiger lines. I couldn't be more proud of them!:clap: Again, I have to hand it to the St Xavier fans...I wished many of them luck as they filed into the stadium, and they were very friendly to me. I also wished a lot of the players luck as well, and some of them even swapped skin with me, as my guys do with me. I saluted some of them, and they returned that salute. And I got my wish...I was able to wish Mike Glaser luck and got to shake his hand before the game! I also got to meet a member of this website (the name escapes me) who told me that he really likes to read my posts...an ultimate compliment!:thumb: And it was another memorable game, our fourth in a row in the series. I could not have hoped for better, as neither team deserved to lose. This game had everything except a safety. Our fans were not quiet for the entire game, even when we were ten points down. The BGHS side of the stadium where the students are just about came apart when Allen Gonsalves returned the interception for the final score of the game. We preserved an 18 game win streak overall and increased our home win streak to nine. Next week, the Purples hit the road again at Henderson Co. The visiting team has never won in this series, which started my senior year (1976), when the Purples made the postseason for the first time ever in program history. Sic 'em, Purple!:thumb:

Please don't get down about this team...The Tigers did VERY well....Maybe it is not the fact that they "laid an egg", maybe it was the fact that the Purples willed themselves to win!!! We were there watching and the Tigers really made some GREAT plays. Don't count the X guys out so soon.

We just got back home....WHAT A GAME!!!! IMO, X just did not look ready....They had some WONDERFUL plays and worked very hard as a team. BG was VERY ready for this game. The guys worked amazingly well as a team. Where there were some weakness in play, all the players took up the slack for that weakness....Like I stated in the prediction thread, these guys are very determined and can pull off the W everytime....Last year and this year has been amazing!!! The guys really watch out for each other, have heart, never give up, never stop, and are very determined.....I am very, very proud of these guys!!!! It is not all about winning....It is about teamwork, character, and heart. I would be just as proud of these guys had they not pulled off the W!!!! Way to go guys!

It's going very well, Pride! I'm glad you came to your reunion...I had my 35th this summer and had a blast! Alma Mater has changed a little since my days, but it is mostly the same. Alma Mater is proof that you can always go home!! "...May She Never Die!" Nacarius is a great young man. When Mrs PH and I welcome the guys on the field before the game, he gives us both a hug and me a handshake like a man. I'm very proud of him, and he has many great accomplishments ahead of him. Just think, we have him for one more year after this year! He's an outstanding all-around athlete, and I know he'll have a great adulthood waiting for him someday! :thumb:

Hey LTR! Good question. It's no secret that BGHS is short on depth this year. Last year's team had 31 seniors and most starters came back. This year, we only return ten seniors and four starters, so depth is most certainly a concern. Sure, there's talent on that bench, but it's inexperienced depth. I think we have 93 on this year's roster. This season is a big test for the Purples, but I think that they'll acquit themselves well, and there's not a quitter in the bunch! As for line play, this year's lines are smaller than last year's, and that could be a big problem if the guys don't hang tough. But it is not impossible. In 1976, my senior year, our lines were outsized by every team we played, but we completed the first perfect season in school history at 12-0. For three straight years, we had the quickest offensive line in the Commonwealth, bar none. That's the key for the BGHS offensive line. On defense, we go with three down linemen, and they too are smaller but much quicker than last year. On top of that, our coaches tend to substitute liberally to keep them fresh. That's why they never build up tremendous individual statistics, but it does tend to equalize things with a bigger line. Thanx for the question!:thumb:

Hey Pride! Nacarius (a sophomore last year) snagged three passes for 40 yards. The Tiger defense did a very good job containing him last year. The week before against Henry Clay, he burned them for ten catches for 159 yards.:thumb:

I may be wrong, but I'm going with my heart and going with the Purple and Gold. In 2005, many Tiger posters were predicting 56-0 and 56-7 and that the Purples didn't stand a chance. Ryan Beard's crushing hit of a St X punt returner showed that the Purples were nobody's doormat, and it turned out to be a classic game. The Tiger fans were very gracious in victory, and that made a big impression on Purple Nation. In 2006, the physical Tigers knocked out no less than seven Purple starters who also could not answer the bell next week against a very good Christian Co team. However, the reserves had enough moxie to still make it another classic game with the Tigers and beat Christian Co the following week in three overtimes. Last year was still another classic game, and the Purples finally won their first game in the series and became the first public school to win at beautiful Brother Thomas More Stadium. I personally chased down every Purple player and convinced them that they can still win the game, and they took over in the second half. Again, the St X faithful were super, congratulating all of us on the win. I think that Tiger fans are top notch!:thumb: This year, we see just what the Purples are really made of. The Tigers are better than last year, and BGHS returns only four starters from last year, but have hardly been tested yet. The game is at the hallowed Home of the Purples for 43 seasons, Elvis Donaldson Stadium/Monie Beard Field. I think that this game is going to be just as much emotional as it is physical or a test of speed. Mike Glaser is retiring at the end of the season, and many around the Commonwealth (including us) will miss him. I would like to shake his hand, win or lose, after the game as he leaves the field (both teams enter at the same place, and that's where I position myself before and after the game). The Purples would like to see the continuation of a 17 game win streak. All eyes in the Commonwealth will be looking this way come Friday night! Any of you Tiger fans who want to see Mrs PH and me before the game or after, meet us at the little patch of artificial turf down by the Fieldhouse where the players come on the field...we'd like to make new friends and see old friends! By all means, be careful coming down for the game, and have a good time while you're here! Here's hoping for another classic game in the series!:thumb:

Actually, when The Purples reach the running clock, that is usually when they pull their starters.....We have never heard anyone ever complain about that before.....:confused:

BGHS overcame a furious second qtr by Lafayette and some key penalties and two interceptions to improve to 2-0 on the young season. Nacarius Fant snagged a 46 yard pass from QB Devin Hayes and Blue Tisdale ran 35 yards for another score in the first qtr. Dane Drobocky hit both PATs and the Purples led 14-0. Then Lafayette staged a very nice comeback with their QB scoring a rushing TD and throwing for another. The PATs were good, and the score was tied at 14 with 0:38 left in the first half. BGHS used a very effective two minute offense and, aided by a face mask penalty, scored on a one yard plunge by Tisdale with one second left before the half. The Purples were up 21-14 at halftime. It was all Purples in the second half. Blake Pillow scored on an eight yd run and Spencer Renfro scored on an eight yd toss from Hayes for a 35-14 lead after three. Renfro scored again on a 36 yd pass from Hayes in the fourth, and the Generals tacked on a late score but failed on the two pt conversion attempt. Hunter Hanks scored the final pt of the game. HUGE game next week as BGHS appears at home for the first time in 2012. They will be preparing for an outstanding St Xavier team. Best of luck for the Purples!:thumb:

Renfro caught another TD pass, this time from 36 yds out, and the Generals tacked on a very late score with less than a minute to go in the game. Final is Purples 42, Generals 20.:clap::thumb We're done...stick a fork in this one!
