Easy W for Beechwood.

I must have missed where all of Ryle expected to roll through most of their schedule. As someone fairly close to the team, we expected Cov/Coop/Cal/High to all be very tough opponents. Without question, all of them could have been losses. Although I tend to agree about championship appearances, but we all can agree 6A is an entirely different animal than 5A. You can make a strong argument that 6A, 4A, and 3A would be harder to win the past few years when Cooper made their run. That isn't a knock on Cooper at all, just stating it's not apples to apples.

I'm sure you got to watch last year's 37-0 embarrassment, correct? This year will be worse. Ryle has as many wins vs CovCath the last 2 years than SK has in their entire history!

"Little brother" will be chomping at the bit to take the ole Pioneers behind the woodshed on Oct 24th. What does that make SK, "baby brother"?

Ouch! New coach, same old result. Is it true SK's practice chant is "beat Ryle"? If so that's hilarious. Certainly has the making of another 1st half running clock game.

Huh? You don’t think playing a team w/out 2 of their best players isn’t lucky? I understand the “next man up” motto, but nobody that’s ever played sports would agree with you. if nothing else, we can agree its not the same team that controlled CovCath w/out them 2.

Cooper played hard and deserved the win but make no mistake about it, Cooper had Lady Luck on their side. For starters, Ryle had 2 of their top 5 players out (Dylan Lee and Bo Gay) due to hand injuries. Either one of them play and it’s a W for Ryle. Lee is their top WR and DB. No chance Cooper plays 8 guys in the box w/ Lee out there. If they did, he would have went for 150 and 2 TD’s at least. On defense, he’s a game changer (ask CovCath). Bo Gay is one of the top DE’s in the state. He would have been a major impact vs the run game and would have been chasing O’Hara around all night. Then, the game started! I’ve never seen Ryle look as sloppy and unprepared for a game. Fumbled opening kickoff, gave up a terrible pick 6, had what felt like 10 pentalties (some were very questionable), then Savage uncharacteristically fumbles on what appeared to be the game-winning drive. Ryle’s OC had a terrible night. Not sure why they insist on making Verax a pocket passer when it’s clear he prefers and executes way better rolling out of the pocket. Do they have something against RPO’s?? Verax is probably the fastest QB in the state coaches! And with Lee out, they should have had a completely different plan but opted to run Savage stretch left/right all night. Why not use Anness more? Maybe Savage doesn’t cough up the ball on the game winning drive at the end of the game. Kid had to be exhausted! I hope I’m wrong but suspect they’ll continue to struggle the next couple weeks until they get healthy. Then they will most likely end the season with a run of running clock games. Congrats Cooper! Good luck the rest of then season.

Verax is a better passer of the ball. Both are very dangerous in the open field as runners. Verax has amazing speed (10.9 100 meter) and Harney isn’t probably too far behind from what I can see. Both have come up big in big games in their careers. Harney is more of a wildcat QB IMO. His downfield balls lack zip and he eyes his receiver too long (just watch Lee’s pick on first series). Both are great HS QB’s but I’d take Verax all day. He’s 2-0 vs Harney, more accurate passer downfield, and is just as good of runner w/ more speed.

I think Ryle wins that game 10 out of 10 times, with a different QB or not. All I stated was w/ a traditional QB, they’d be harder to defend. To your point, if Ryle is controlling the LOS, then they’re winning regardless. Just a bad head to head matchup for CCHS but I think their staff did about everything they can do to give them a chance and deserve credit for doing so.

Harney isn’t a great throwing QB. Most of his passing yardage came off of screen plays. Yes, he did complete a few balls down field but also threw 2 picks (almost 3) the first being on the first drive. Any coach would be hesitant to throw the ball after that. He is a great runner in the open field. I saw a gameplan to dink and dunk w/ screens combined w/ vertical routes that opened the field for him to run. It worked well. If CCHS had a traditional pocket passer and had Harney in the slot, their offense would certainly be more difficult to defend. I’m sure EE has determined they don’t have that player yet. Ryle had the better team with better players. I think EE and his staff did a great job getting his team prepared and put them in positions to win that game. If Harney doesn’t throw those INT’s, it may have been a different game, but that wasn’t on the coaches.

Future looking very bleak for the Pioneers.

Shoutout to Dameyn Anness who looked amazing while not playing 100%. He has a great feel for the RB position. Patient runner who attacks the hole and moves the pile with his power. He’s going to be huge down the stretch for Ryle on both sides of the ball!

Ryle was at about 70%. Will get better as then season progresses. Cov conditioning was WAY better. A lot of work to do.

Sounds like another long season for the Pioneers.

It’s only relevant because that was Beechwood‘s lone TD in the final quarter and should have been called down per the scrimmage format, which was QB touch. Also, I seriously doubt he’d attack the QB at that angle in a real game.

Good video to show how he was clearly tagged by #15. Play should have been dead. He does have a great arm. Missed some shorter passes but overall really good. With Fryman and Pabst speed, they should put up some big #'s this year.

Not sure how your butt whoopin vs Beechwood years ago is relevant to this discussion. That was a below average Ryle team that won just a few games vs one of the best Beechwood teams ever.
