From everything I have heard from those close to the program Coach Volker is a great guy and he is obviously a pretty good football coach. I am sure the day will come when other programs will come after him so I am just going to enjoy the upcoming season. I am sure Beechwood will either do what they need to do to keep Coach Volker or find another great coach. Beechwood is one of the best football coaching jobs in the state of Kentucky so I am sure they will not have a problem finding many highly qualified candidates if it comes to that. I am sure the Beechwood faithful will be very happy if Coach Volker has the title of defending State Championship Coach when we are talking about this same old tired subject next year.

There is that word again scrimmage ha ha… In all seriousness I hope Cooper has a great season this year. I know Austin Alexander and his family and they are absolutely great people. Nothing would make me happier than to see NKY teams playing in and winning state championships. I also agree with you that there are 4-5 really good football teams in NKY this season that all have a shot at a state championship. Obviously Boyle and Trinity are going to make it hard in 4A and 6A but 2A and 5A are definitely winnable. I look forward to the season and keeping up with all the NKY players and teams.

Beechwood was also missing 4 of their main contributors from this years squad in that game so I guess the only things we have is a freshman game with multiple current players from both teams not playing in the game that Beechwood absolutely beat the brakes off of Cooper and a “SCRIMMAGE”. Scrimmage, did you say scrimmage? You really talkin about a scrimmage? Like I said before there are a lot of big school NKY coaches glad to not have Beechwood on their schedule this year.

Volker is not worried about taking a loss in a scrimmage. It’s a scrimmage who cares who wins. I am sure Purcell Marian provides them what they need to prepare for the season and that is why you scrimmage. Anyway if Beechwood played Cooper I am not so sure Cooper wins. When these kids were all freshman Beechwood beat the brakes off Cooper and they did not have some of their key players on this seasons team. As someone already commented Beechwood was pretty good last year with their only 2 losses being extremely close losses to Cov Cath (who was 4A state runner up) and Mayfield (who was 2A state champs) and they have almost every starter back. With the exception of the loss of Xavier Campbell they are probably better and a year older bigger and faster than last year. Cooper has a lot of key pieces back from last years team but they also had some key losses. I would love to see Beechwood match up against all the bigger schools in NKY but unfortunately the state requires you to play all the teams in your district which doesn’t leave a lot of wiggle room for scheduling. I am pretty sure that the coaches at Cooper, Highlands, Ryle and some of the other bigger schools in NKY are very happy to not see Beechwood on their schedule this season.

Chase Flaherty could easily rush for 1500 yards this season if they give him the ball 20 times per game but with all the weapons on the outside and the fact that in most games he will not get many carries in the 2nd half it will limit his opportunities. With the O line they are going to have and with Flaherty running the ball I don’t think the run game is a concern at all.

I couldn’t agree more. With Clay Hayden, one of the top QBs in the state throwing the ball to Erdman (10.7 100 meter) Cusick (4.56 40 yard dash) and Fryman (6.2 60 yard dash) it’s going to be really exciting. And then you throw in RB Chase Flaherty running the ball behind that big athletic O Line Beechwood is going to be a problem. You better be able to score a lot of points because it’s going to be really hard to keep that offense out of the end zone.

Congrats Clay! Best pure thrower in the state. Looking forward to a great season and many more offers.

I saw on twitter this morning that James Cusick ran a 4.56 at the Navy camp this week. The kid is an absolute stud who gets lost in the shuffle sometimes because Beechwood has 3 receivers who could start anywhere in the state. Cusick is 6 foot unreal athleticism and catches anything close to him. It’s just a matter of time before this kid blows up. Congrats James!

Running a 4.4 40 at 6 foot 200 lbs. will do that for you!

Kid is a beast but Mark Higgs was one of the best running backs to ever carry the football at UK and then had many productive years in the NFL.

I like Dixie and definitely think they are getting better but with that schedule I see 5 losses, 2 wins and 3 50/50 games.

4 star 5 star blah blah blah…. The kid can play period!

Could be Jason Booher from Holmes former State Champion Coach. I think I heard he is the Superintendent for Mercer County schools. He was definitely a great coach when he was at Holmes and before that at Shelby Valley where he won both the All A state and the Sweet 16 in the same season. I don’t think he is Catholic so that might be a problem.

Beechwood WR/RB/DB Luke Erdman won the state championship yesterday in the 100 meter, the 200 meter and the 4 x 100 relay. He set new school records and almost broke the all time class A state record. Luke’s teammates on the 4 x 100 relay were James Cusack (Junior), Brody Aylor (Sophomore) and Nathan Pabst (Freshman). All 4 of these young men will play important roles on the football field next season. You throw in the Fryman kid (Baseball) who is probably close to Erdman as far as speed and the Tigers are going to be really really fast next season. Whoever they are playing better bring their track shoes. And I haven’t even mentioned last seasons district player of the year QB Clay Hayden, RB Chase Flaherty and one of the biggest and fastest lines that Beechwood has had in years. I think it’s going to be a fun and fast fall in Ft. Mitchell. Congrats to Luke, James and all their teammates.

I think we just lost the best high school basketball coach in the state. I think there are other really good coaches in the 9th like Sullivan and a very underrated Rodney Snapp at Newport and in the state but Coach Rusthatz was the best in the state in my opinion.

You mean the transfers with a s from Chattanooga. They are twin brothers one is a 3 star WR/DB with a bunch of D1 offers and the other is a RB/LB who also has some D1 offers. Haven’t looked at their film but assuming they are pretty good. Don’t know anything about a Georgia transfer but PT is stockpiling talent. They also have Kentucky’s top ranked 4star recruit and a stud QB coming back. PT is loaded!

I think Mayfield is going to be really good this season but I don’t think they will beat PT no matter where they play them, War Memorial or the Walmart parking lot I don’t think it is going to matter.

If Ryle beats Cooper this year then send over the crow and I will sharpen my knife and fork. It’s not gonna happen.

5 and 5 at best. They are not beating Cov Cath, Cooper, Highlands, CAL or St. X. They have some pretty good players but they seem to always have good players but end up 5-5. Some of that is because they play a tough schedule and some of it is because I just can’t figure it out.

As I am sure you know there are many FCS programs that either offers partial athletic scholarships or no athletic scholarships and yes The Ivy League and The Patriot League are two of those leagues. I never compared the 2 conferences as far as football programs just that the comment was that because Butler did not offer scholarships that it was “misleading’ to say the 2 Beechwood kids received a D1 offer. I wasn’t trying to be defensive I just thought it was disrespectful to those 2 boys who have worked hard to get those offers no matter who the offer is from to say that they really didn’t get a D1 offer. I have seen many kids on this site who have gotten offers from Patriot League teams like Dayton and others but I never saw anyone saying those offers were misleading because they did not offer athletic scholarships. I think we should always be encouraging and supportive of all the young men no matter where they go to school. The season will be starting soon and I am sure both these young men will prove themselves worthy of the offers they receive.

I would have thought congratulations would have been in order but if you prefer to dismiss their offer because Butler doesn’t offer athletic scholarships then I guess that’s your prerogative. Ivy League schools do not give athletic scholarships but I have not seen any correction about it being misleading when players have been offered by Ivy League schools. Word is that both of the young men have had a lot of schools in to meet with them over the last month so I am sure they will both get other offers. Hopefully they will meet your approval for legitimate offers.

Luke Erdman and Cole Howard received their first D1 offers today from Butler University. I don’t think it will be their last offer.

Guru, you are a Beechwood guy. Come on man!!! Ha ha….. I am not saying everyone else should mail it in but I am saying that Beechwood is loaded this season from top to bottom but as we all know anything can happen and that’s why they play the games. I am looking forward to an exciting season.
