New Colonel

Dixie is a bad team again. They still can't play defense and offense is the same ol same ol that simply does not work. The offense was shut out in 2nd half. They didn't make any adjustments. I, for the life of me cannot figure out how any coach can continue to try fit a square peg into a round hole with an offensive scheme that has not even remotely worked. How has nobody on the staff said.....hey, this isn't working, we should really do something else. They'll start off 0-4 and probably win 3 games this year. I don't like being overly critical of high school coaches, but man, some self-reflection over why things are going badly would really go a long way.

Way to keep it classy.

They usually are every year. They don't do anything remotely fancy, but they play hard-nosed, and play very fast and disciplined. Hoping my Colonels can step it up this week.

As a someone born and raised on Cincy's West-Side with many friends still die-hard Elder fans, I can assure you, the Panthers don't have even an inkling of fear regarding the Colonels.

Elder used to pay teams to come to the Pit, much like big colleges would pay small colleges to come get beat down on. Not sure if they still do or not, but that was definitely a reason in the past. Elder is also notoriously difficult to work with schduling wise. That's one big reason they have such a difficult time trying to fill their schedule. They say things like, "your stadium is nowhere near large enough to handle our fans." Too many teams essentially said, well then, go pound rocks if you won't play at our place.

The Rams from Hamilton Ohio travel to Edgewood to take on the Colonels. Both teams played local rivalries last Friday. Badin played their in town rivals Hamilton High School. The Rams of Badin won 38-20. Badin won with a ground attack with 150 yards rushing on 29 attempts and controlling the clock. Badin only attempted 7 passes the entire night. Dixie came off their southern county rivals falling 20-10. Dixie gave up 198 yards on the ground in 33 rushes last week. So I expect Badin to continue pound the ball this week. Dixie needs to shore up the rush defense, clean up the penalties, and keep their QB clean to come away with a win.

Dixie would drive with spreading the field out, get inside the 10 and bring everyone into a tight formation of some sort and got nowhere. I didn't get that at all.

The one SK Running back sure does run hard. Their defensive scheme was also different, only having 5 and sometimes 4 in the box. Their Mike Linebacker was lined up at 7ish yards almost all night, which I have not seen before at this level. Their DL was very stout! They got after it. Their coverages seemed to confuse Dixie. Dixie's defensive scheme was much improved. Their new 3-4 scheme is a drastic improvement. They went with a smaller quicker DL that gave SK fits much of the night. The LBs filled much better than the past 2 years, and coverages were better overall IMO. They just got worn down in second half as they were on the field for what seemed like almost the entire half.

Glad it wasn't just me. Even with all the penalties, there should have been quite a few more. Both SK and Dixie got away with blatant illegal procedures and offensive offsides. And I saw twice where SK TE was covered up by a WR on the line and he went out for a pass. Not to mention all the kids with mouthpieces dangling from their facemasks, so much for points of emphasis for a second year a in a row.

It was, not sure I completely agree with that call, looked to me like SK punter turned into the rusher, but that could've been my angle.

Sure did. Both QBs settled in second half more. Entirely too many penalties, too many kids going down with cramps. This was for both the Colonels and Pioneers.

Anderson did what Anderson does and that's score a crap load of points, and fast!

Honestly, a really sloppy game by both teams. Both have a lot to work on for next week.

Dixie is not that small as I was led to believe. They have some decent size up front on OL, hopefully they can move.

I truly hope so. I feel this is a make or break season for the coaching staff.

Doubt it. I hear they are small in the trenches. We will see tonight though. Best of luck to Dixie and hoping for clean game by both teams and no injuries for either.

That's a shame. Their 8th grade team last year was on of the best middle school teams I've ever seen.

That seems like a great game. I know that Campbell County 8th grade team was crazy loaded last year. And Dixie has a solid freshman qb.

Well said. I just disagree and think it is that difficult. There's plenty of teams that run no Huddle tempo offense, or attempt to. They just do not come close to matching the tempo of Amderson. Best of luck to Cooper, they have a solid team with a lot of key returning players from last season. It would be awesome for them to win the state title this year.

Then why don't more teams do it?
