Here we are! Finally almost game day! Highlands is back in the state tournament for the first time since 2018, while South Warren was here just two years ago, and was bounced in the second round. Highlands coming off a large 9th Region victory, besting the Beechwood Tigers 5-2 - where the Birds were firing on all cylinders, and a masterclass by Bluebirds pitching throughout throughout the tournament. All three starting pitchers had CGs, and only 1 earned run by Birds pitching in the tournament. Jake Robinson was the starter in the final, went 7 and only allowed 3 hits and 1 walk. South Warren won a close one against Warren East, and continuously it's been three guys offensively who get it done. Griffin Rardin is batting nearly .500, and has 28 XBH. Jaxen Decker has also been good, along with Camden Page. This one should be a great game, and if you're not making the trip to KPP, you can catch the 1:30pm first pitch on bluebirdsradio.com . I'll also add this...absolutely no shade to anyone on this list. All are deserving in their own way, or else they wouldn't be there. Just putting out some numbers for a little thought.

There may seem like clear bias with this comment, but my days covering KY HS sports are limited, so I'll throw my opinion in on this. Not one member of the Highlands Baseball Team on this list? Brooks Hendrix, batting .578 (7th in state) with 52 hits (2nd in state), 17 doubles (4th in state) 42 runs (34th in state), and 21-21 SB. Jake Robinson, pitched 44.2 innings and fanned 59 on strikes, with a 0.94 ERA (29th in state). Tyler Fryman (on this list) was 0-7 against him. Adam Forton, pitched 48.1 innings, had 69 strikeouts, a 1.59 ERA, and 7 wins (28th in state) and 1 loss. Forton also batted .356 with a long ball and 9 doubles. Nolan Schwalbach, batting .413, 43 hits (35th in state), 4 HR, and 14-15 SB. The 9th Region Champs had an incredible season, and personally I think at least one of these guys should be on this list.

It's finally here! After a long season, it all comes down to this. The 2025 9th Region Tournament ends tonight, and one team will go onto to the 2025 State Baseball Tournament. There is some consistency in this matchup. From 2015-2023, it's been either Highlands or Beechwood to win the region - last year was Ryle. Highlands dominated their first two matchups in the tournament - they might be playing their best baseball of the year now. The Tigers have had a great draw - and have 2 phenomenal pitchers remaining at their disposal for tonights game. Highlands and Beechwood met in the regular season and it was Highlands winning 7-1. Highlands, possibly now the tournament favorite, will look to continue after their quality win against the Covington Catholic Colonels. A rivalry renewed! Highlands and Cov Cath will meet once again the first round of the 9th Region Finals. The Birds have beaten the Colonels twice this year. Both times Highlands had great offensive ability, backed with a solid outing from Adam Forton - the starter for both games. They were both big wins, 11-4 and 11-1. But, as they say, it's difficult to beat a team three times in a row. The first round of last years tournament is certainly in the minds of both teams...where Covington Catholic edged out the Birds 12-9. The 9th region tournament starts tomorrow! The Highlands Bluebirds will take on the Scott Eagles for the second time in as many days tonight at Scott. Highlands comes in winning 5 in a row, including one against Scott last night. Highlands was dominant, and it was the top of the lineup, and the starter Adam Forton who got it done. Forton would go 4 IP, allowing 1 hit, and fanning down 6 with 0 free passes. On offense, they put up 7 - Brooks Hendrix had 2 doubles, and they were both nearly gone at the large yard in Fort Thomas. Iain Carner also drove in 3. Scott was shut down until late in the game, but Brady Smith drove in 2 late which made it interesting - though I never had much of a doubt. Tonights matchup should be a good one!
