I would think that it is a fairly simple concept. You have one of the best players in the state, along with a 6'9 guy in the paint. Your whole teams guards well, they did it all year. So, wouldn't you just turn everyone else on the team into knockdown shooters? I don't know, just seems like a pretty simple recipe to success in my eyes.

Especially with a player like that on your team. Shouldn't be many turnovers, and he shouldn't be giving it up much in that position.

3/2, 8:00pm Henry County High School This is probably the least anticipated game of the first round but has a slight possibility of being interesting. If Gallatin Count had lost their district championship and Collins had won theirs, I wouldn’t be saying this, but this win for the young Gallatin County squad might give them the confidence to make this one interesting. These teams have met 14 times, with Collins winning 12 of them. They have been nothing short of dominant in the series, and have currently won 4 straight, including a 36-point win at the beginning of this season. Collins is led by senior guard Kenyon Goodin, averaging 18.9 ppg, shooting 55.2% from the field, 41.1% from 3, and 82.5% from the line. Gallatin County is led by junior guard Kellen Dossett. He is scoring 18.4 ppg and 5.2 rpg. Dossett is shooting 35.9% from 3 and 73.6% from the line. I do not see this one very close, I would imagine Collins wins this one by 15+. But like I said before I wouldn’t be super surprised to see the Wildcats play them a little closer than expected.

3/2, 6:30pm Henry County High School This is a tale of old teams. 2 teams that seem to always be in contention for the region and 2 of the biggest schools in the region as well. However, their actual success in the regional tournament is extremely different. We havetalked about it many times, so I won’t go in depth, but Oldham County is the most successful basketball program in the region, and Simon Kenton while being the biggest school in the region, seems to come up short year after year, and are yet to ever win the 8th Region Tournament. These teams have met 20 times, with Oldham County winning 13 of them. Oldham County had also won 8-straight contests against Simon Kenton. That streak came to an end this year with Simon Kenton defeating them 62-50 in Buckner. Simon Kenton is led by senior guard Travis Krohman. On the year he is averaging 15.7 ppg and shooting 42.2% from 3 and 78.6% from the line. The Colonels are led by one of the best players in the region, Max Green. The junior guard hastaken his game to another level this season, averaging 23.6 ppg, shooting 38.5% from 3 and #1 in the state in free throw %, coming in at 91.1%. The big question mark of this game will be the health of Colonel forward Luke Amburgey. He injured his ankle in the district semifinals. If he is 100%, I like the Colonels to pull off the upset, but if he is not then I will take Simon Kenton.Either way, I am expecting a tight contest.

What a first night of basketball, and actually a somewhat larger crowd than I expected for the quarterfinals. As always, it was HOT. Can we start a donation towards an upgraded AC unit in that joint? LOL. We finish up the quarterfinals tomorrow night with Simon Kenton vs Oldham County at 6:30, and Gallatin County vs Collins following around 8.

This one, and the one earlier towards the end of the 3rd quarter when both Johnson and McCrear were out of the game. Huge boost for them to have some guys step up and shrink the lead with their 2 best players on the bench. This allowed the 2 rested guys to come in and close it out. Not a pretty game for WC, but they were very impressive down the stretch.

Not saying that is the reason they sat him, but it might have been a factor in the decision.

He is a great coach, if he stays at Grant County I am interested to see how he does with a team lacking the talent they had this year.

Yes, picked it up early in the 3rd. Johnson had 4 for a long time as well, and McCrear picked up his 4th late in the 3rd quarter.

This is their second year in a row drawing the favorite for the region. Last year was #1 Woodford, and this year #1 North Oldham.

I think maybe him having 4 fouls affected this decision as well.

What a good game! Great first 2 games of this years regional tournament.

Some more stats in Teagan Moore's stretch, just 1 district title and only 1 All 'A' Regional title. This is not taking away from Moore's great stretch as a Rebel, one of hte greatest careers stat wise in regional history. Just looking at Coach Duvall's records with a former Mr. Basketball and then one of the top-5 players in the state.

Tough stretch for Devin Duvall with some of the best basketball players in the state. In former Mr. Basketball Carson Williams 4-year stretch for the Rebels they won just 1 regional game. In Teagan Moore's 4-year stretch they did not win a single game. Not to mention having a 15 point lead tonight in the 3rd quarter against Woodford County.

REMINDER: Tomorrow night is the night!! The road to Rupp will be over here within a week, and the tournament kicks off tomorrow with 4 of the best teams in the region fighting to get into the semifinals! We will see 2 of the top-20 ranked teams in the state (North Oldham and Grant County) matching up against each other to kick things off. Directly after that an interesting matchup with 3 D1 basketball players, and multiple D1 football commits. This might be the best night of the tournament in terms of talent on the floor, you don't want to miss it! The first game begins at 6:30, with the second one following it directly after. I would expect tomorrow to be pretty crowded, as all 4 teams normally bring a very good crowd. So, if you are wanting a good seat I would get there early. This is a great preview! I wish you had more 4th Region followers than it seems there are. You deserve a lot more attention than you get. Happened to tune into the Metcalfe/Barren game just a few minutes ago thanks to the livestream, and it looks like Metcalfe County is trying to pull off the upset! Blythe from MC is the real deal.
