5th Region: Week 5
Agree, they're drop in rankings right now, is a combination of a few losses without some players and also other teams winning. They were in my pre-season top 5 and I expect by end of season, they'll be right back there.

They have hired a coach. Not sure why they haven't announced it yet, but rumor killer, it wasn't Chad Griffin and I don't believe that Jaggers was even interviewed.

5th Region: Week 5
Week 5 brings in a new calendar year. How many games will get played in this first full week of the new year remains undecided as every game in the 5th region on Monday, January 6th has been cancelled. Green County remains the number one team in the region. They will travel to Caverna at some point this week, (originally on Monday, now scheduled for Tuesday) for an All A first round matchup and also district game. The last time those two teams played, they had the unfortunate incident that led to both teams having players suspended. The winner of that game will play Washington County in the semi-finals. The semi-finals and finals will be played at Washington County. Congratulations to Larue County, who moves up a spot to #2 in the rankings this week. They repeated as 2A sectional champions with wins over Lincoln County and Russell County. They will now play in the 2A state tournament a little later this month. Adair County drops a spot, as they lose to Russell County in the 2A sectional. That loss to me is somewhat unexplainable. I have heard that they were dealing with sickness from players and coaches, but Loy had 24 and Cochran had 16 points respectively, so I’m just not sure what happened there. North Hardin got a nice win over district foe Central Hardin. North is firmly in control of the 17th district right now. Central Hardin drops several spots this week as they have lost 3 in a row. Here’s the rankings for Week 5: 1. Green County (11-1) Results this Week: Lexington Catholic 76-66. Franklin-Simpson 79-49 Games this week: at Caverna (All A Tournament) 2. Russell County 68 Adair County 64
Me either. They seem to turn on/off at will. And if they decide to turn off, they're an average team. When they decide to turn on, they are one of the best in the region (if not the best). This is a bad loss and feels eerily similar to their loss against Cumberland County at the beginning of the season. Possibly looking ahead to the bigger next game. If that is going to be the norm for the Indians, I'd expect a few more losses that should be wins, especially toward tournament time.

5th Region: Week 4
Region 5, Week 4 Lots of games this week, but very few games against in-region competition. Central Hardin is the first team to get double digit wins in the region. It was a good week for the top teams in the region, going a combined 17-2. The bottom half of teams in the region, not so much going a combined 6-20. The top 3 teams, Green County, Adair County and Larue County all had good wins against quality competition. Green defeated Woodford County, Adair County defeated Campbell County and Larue County defeated George Rogers Clark and Calloway County. Sunday’s games are not reflected in wins/losses or rankings for this week. Here's the rankings for Week 4: 1. Green County (9-1) Results This Week: 76-63 Woodford Co. 51-74 Fred. 5th Region: Week 3
This week there were just 11 games that featured regional opponents, so lots of teams were playing out of region competition. That can make it tough to discern how high a team should jump in the ratings or how far they will drop, so you’ll see that there were not a ton of teams that moved too high or too low. Green County remains undefeated with strong performances against in-region competition. I think for me what was most impressive was their win against Campbellsville. It was a dominant performance without Eric James Jr. or Modibo Kouyate, due to suspensions. Hayden Blakeman and Jayden Marr had huge games with 33 and 22 points respectively. Adair County went 1-2 at the King of the Bluegrass. They started with North Oldham; they controlled the first half but went cold in the third quarter and fell by 9. They rebounded with a big statement win against Trinity, and then dropped a consolation game to Newport. Taylor County had a good week with 3 wins against some quality teams. Davier White and Layken Lyons both had multiple games with 20 plus points this week. Taylor seems to be a team on the move. Overall, it was a good week for the region. They had a combined record of 28-24, and the teams through this far in the season have a combined record of 73-72. So, here’s the rankings for week 3. 1. Region 5 Week 2
With week 2 complete, the top 3 teams (Green Co. Adair Co. & Larue Co) in the region seem to be distancing themselves from the other teams. Central Hardin remains unbeaten and are playing much better than I expected them to be at this point in the season. The marquee matchup (Caverna at Green) from last week was marred by an ugly incident that resulted in at least 4 ejections the night of, and I suspect there will be a few more handed down from Lexington. The top 3 teams remain the same, North Hardin stays in the top 5 despite having only won 1 game, but strength of competition is something to consider there. Central Hardin moves up several spots and Caverna and Taylor County both drop out of the top 5. 1. Green County (6-0) Results: Marion County 66-57, Caverna 57-48, Butler 82-72 Games this Week: at Campbellsville, at Hart County Green will be without guard Eric James, as he was one that was ejected during the incident against Caverna. Wouldn’t be surprised for them to also be without Modibo Kouyate for a couple of games. 2. Adair County (5-0) Results: Campbellsville 75-50, Bowling Green 61-57 Games this Week: North Oldham (King of the Bluegrass) 3. Larue County (4-1) Results: North Hardin 79-72, Hart County 79-38, Barren County 77-52 Games this Week: Caverna, Grayson County (at McLean County) 4. North Hardin (1-3) Results: Fort Knox 83-53, Greenwood 82-83 Games this Week: at Eastern, Oldham Co. at John Hardin 5. Central Hardin (6-0) Results: John Hardin 74-69, Elizabethtown 60-53, Russell Co. 90-74 Games this Week: at Greenwood, Nelson Co. at Metcalfe Co, Monroe Co (at Metcalfe) 6. Caverna (3-3) Results: Barren Co. 72-46, Green Co 48-57, Mercer Co. 43-52 Games this Week: at Larue Co. Owensboro Catholic (at South Warren) Caverna will be most likely without several players this week due to ejections, which will come at a very bad point in time with scheduling. 7. Taylor County (4-2) Results: Wayne Co. 55-46, Marion Co. 74-64, Bardstown 62-65 Games this Week: Seneca (at St. X), Mercer Co, Daviess Co. (at GRC) 8. Green County 82 Butler 72
I don't think he will return this season. If he does, would be very late in the season.

Hodges hasn't played all year. He's out with an injury from football.

I was surprised by the margin as well. Taylor hasn't listed any stats for that game and I haven't been able to find any video of it either, but I'm not aware of anyone being out.

5th Region: Week 1
It’s hard to put much stock into results yet, only being 1 week into the season, but being able to watch several teams play this week and seeing some highlights from other games has helped. Week 2 should help crystalize rankings a little more. But after week 1, I would put the region into about 4 tiers. The top tier is going to be Green, Adair and Larue County. These are the front runners for regional champion. The second tier would be Caverna, Central Hardin, Taylor County and North Hardin. These teams could be contenders. The third tier would be teams ranked 8-13. These teams will win a few games, be competitive in some games, but will probably not make much noise come regional tournament time. The last tier, teams 14-18, well it looks like it will be a long season for those teams. A couple of things of note: -Green County is as good as advertised. The two transfer players are difference makers for them and take them from a team that had a chance to compete to a team that should be considered regional favorites. -Adair County will be just fine as well. They had an early slip-up against Cumberland County, who is a good team in the 4th region, but they looked like the Adair County team I expected against Taylor County. -Elizabethtown starts the season 0-3. This is the worse start to a season for the Panthers since 2021-22 season, where they started 0-5. That season they ended up losing in the regional finals in overtime. -I thought John Hardin and Thomas Nelson would be much improved, and while I do think they will get better than they were last season, my expectations I believe were too high. I am not convinced from what I’ve seen this week that they will win many more games than they did last season. -Washington County did not score more than 40 points in either of their games this week (37,32). Scoring will be problematic for them, which will make winning that much more difficult. -There are a number of district games this week that will begin shaping up the seeding for districts. I’m certain that there are always district games early in the season, but it seems that there are more this year than in previous years. Maybe not, maybe just my thinking, but sure does feel that way to me. Rankings 1. Green County 69 Barren County 38
Game was over about 3 minutes into it. Green looked really impressive and very well could be the team to beat in the 5th region.
-
Cumberland County 82 Adair County 77
Cumberland will be competitive this year and should return to the regional tournament in the 4th region but this is still a huge upset and a big victory for them. You can't always put much stock in scrimmages but Marion County, who only won a handful of games last year defeated Cumberland in a scrimmage by 7 a week ago. This sounds to me like Adair overlooked them, expected a fairly easy win and have believed their own hype. Thankfully for the Indians, it's very early in the season, but they have to put this game behind them immediately and figure things out because Taylor County waits for them on Friday night.

Region 5 Week 1 Games
Thanks to GreenRiverMonster for updates on the Adair/Etown game last night. Looks like it was a pretty good game. I'm intersted to see the game film and stats for that one. The Bethlehem/Taylor game is the best in-region matchup tonight. Green County and Barren County should be a fun one as well, assuming everyone plays tonight with the different school cancellations.

Region 5 Week 1 Games
I agree with your assessment on all of these games. I think the Green/Barren game should be a very good game and I agree with you about Taylor & Adair on Friday. As much as this game means for the 2A, getting the advantage in the district is even bigger. In their last 5 games, the largest margin of victory was 9 points, that was the first game of three, last season. Citizens Bank Arena should be full Friday night.

12th Region Scrimmages
Green won by about 8 I think. Both teams were very physical. Fugate looked good when he was able to get set and shoot from deep. I don't have any stats though. Green controlled the game for its entirety. Lincoln was down double digits at one point and did get it back to 4 in the 2nd half, but they couldn't get the stop and then score when they needed it.

Campbellsville 49 Russellville 24
There were several ejections, not sure exactly how many but at least 3 players (not sure which players) from Campbellsville and a coach were ejected.
