With teams getting players back from football and out of region opponents, there isn’t a lot of change from the pre-season rankings. Although Trigg County looked impressive and moved up, the top 7 or 8 did not change. Lyon County is still the top dog until someone can show otherwise. Lyon County - Stays atop the polls with a 2-1 record, easily beating Ohio County 81-52 behind a balanced scoring attack of Perry (24), Shoulders (23), and Reddick (21). They also won versus South Warren 94-65 with the big 3 having 36, 20, and 25. They would lose late in the week versus Mason County in the PRTC Classic. Hopkinsville - Stays at #2. Despite a 20 point loss to Murray. Detravious Leavell had 18 points. Henderson County - Looked impressive in a double overtime loss to Bowling Green 74-77. Sophomore Cooper Davenport led with 25. Traveling across the river they beat Evansville North 53-40. Gerard Thomas leading with 22. Madisonville North Hopkins - Went 2-0 for the week and had no change in the Ranking. Beating Heritage Christian 66-18 and finally pulling away from Webster County 77-50 in the 6th/7th District Shootout. Hopkins County Central - Went 1-1 with a loss to a tough Calloway County team 55-69. Trevor Weldon (18) and Drake Skeen (17) led the team in scoring. Central then beat Union County 83-79 with a breakout game for Trevahn Jones (30). Trevor Weldon had 21 and Drake Skeen had 20. UHA - Did not Play Union County - Went 0-1 for the week. The Braves lost to Hopkins Central 79-83. Isaiah Manuel went off for 40 on the loss. Christain County - 2-0 for the week. Trigg County - Up 2 spots 3-0 for the week. Does anyone know the the exact ruling on Bradin Nelson's eligibility with Lyon Co.?

Lyon County looks to be well in the driver seat in region 2. After a sweet sixteen visit last year the Lions and Travis Perry are loaded up again. Hopkinsville will give them a run possibly, but will need to get consistence out of there scorers. For the rest of the teams it is a toss up until the bottom 5, depends on who can surprise going late in the season. #1 Lyon County With a 29-7 record 23-0 in the region last year and region 2 champs, Travis Perry(29.7 ppg) who has been offered by Kentucky and possibly brings on board Bradin Nelson from Webster Co. A 6'2 point that averaged 14.4 ppg and 6.6 reb and a all second region award, hoping to fill the void of Jackson Shoulders a 2000 point 1000 rebound for his career. Younger brother Brady Shoulders(7.9 reb) also hopes to fill the void also. Look for Jack Reddick(10.5 ppg) to contribute more offensively. Hands down favorite in the second. #2 Hopkinsville 23-7 and 16-3 in the region will try and get by without Kensington Cabiness leading scorer and rebounder last year for the tigers. They return Detravious Leavell (11.4 ppg) and Daisjun Mercer(12.2 ppg). With the athletes Hopkinsville produces, you never know if they can reach 2nd region finals like they did in 2021-22 season. We will just have to wait and see. #3 Henderson County 18-13 8-4 in region Tyler Smithart was bounced first game of the region last year with a very young squad and return Gerard Thomas a all region player that average almost 18 a game and 7 rebounds. Throw into the mix 3 point specialist Cooper Davenport(10.1 ppg) to go with several other talented freshman and they could make a run. #4 Madisonville After losing there top 3 scorers and rebounders, Jon Newton will look to improve on his 23-9 15-4 record in the second region and rely heavily on Hopkins Central transfer and one of the top guards in the region Marcus Eaves(26.0 ppg 7 reb)but will need to find a lot more scoring if they want to be taken serious as region contenders. #5 Hopkins Central The Storm 15-13 9-10 in region look to repeat a surprise semi final appearance in the second region tourney, the now over looked Storm will bring back Drake Skeen(13.7 ppg) the top 3 point shooter in the state. They also return Namari Hall who is a big man that had 19 boards in the semi versus Hopkinsville and is talented also on offense. Trevahn Jones will look to to off set the departure of Marcus Eaves and Trevor Weldon will run the point more than likely. With the experience in the tournament and a more team oriented style of play they could be a big surprise. #6(tie) UHA After a upsetting 9-15 record and only 4 wins in region the young trio of Gavin Grubbs(14.5 ppg), Lemar Northington(9.1 ppg), and Quintin Quarles(7.2 ppg) look to impress and bring UHA back to the top of the region. #6 (tie) Union County The Braves were 19-10 and 13-7 in region last year. Izaih Manual a all region player and almost 20 points a game scorer will have to find help after losing 80% of there rebounding and 7 experienced seniors to graduation. Rumor of a possible out of state transfer will help, but they will need a supporting cast to be successful again this year. #7 Christian County 10-23 4-9 in region played tough versus Hopkinsville in the district final but under performed all last year. Coach Miles will rely on his son Jordan Miles (12.5 ppg) and Darrell Bateman (12.6 ppg 8.9 reb)for offense. Beyond that it is a toss up on who can help. Hopefully they improve being so young but that is yet to be seen. #8 Caldwell County Losing all state player Jabrion Spikes to graduation would seem to hurt Caldwell a 18-11 team with 12 region wins, but Coach Kukahiko always seems to be around the top year in year out. The Whitington brothers will look to have big years and Xavier Bumpus will do his best to fill Spikes roll. Look for them to be competitive once again. #9 Crittenden County The Rockets were competitive last year at 14-17 and return leading scorer Travis Champion(19.4 ppg 5.7 reb) and also Preston Morgeson there second leading scorer at 11.7 ppg and lead in rebounds with a 7.6 average. With new coach D.J. Pigg look for them to reach the second region tournament again. #10 Trigg County With the retirement of Coach Burgett the Wildcats who was 500. last year and 5 region wins his son Mason Burgett takes the helm. Returning players and leading scorers and rebounders, the Vaughn brothers should help ease the load some for the youngest coach in the state, but the supporting cast is pretty much gone so scoring will be difficult and a first year coach learning curve may hinder them. #11 Webster County With a hard season to take last year at 13-17 and transfer of Bradin Nelson a all region player. Deshawn Murphy(14.7 ppg) will have a difficult season trying to copy the 13 wins a year ago. #12 Dawson Springs Only had 3 wins last year and lost both leading scorers and rebounders. The young talented coaches son Rex Blue (8.7 ppg 7.6 reb) will have a hard nosed cast to go with him, but experience and size will make for another difficult year. #13 Livingston Central Had 4 wins a year ago and lost leading scorer Max Downings 26 ppg. Bring back mostly freshman and sophomores and will have a hard time duplicating last years win total. #14 Ft. Campbell 2 wins last year, they lost there coach and like most season will have a whole new team being a military base school.

Lyon County is with out a doubt top dog in the 2nd, the win over Madisonville was the nail in the coffin. Hopkinsville and Madisonville are still a cut above the rest. Caldwell County, Union County, and Henderson County are right there together and could change places at anytime. Hopkins Central and Webster County have some things to work on to get back where they was just less than a month ago. #1 Lyon County (14-5) With wins over Caldwell County, Madisonville, and Henderson County, plus a trip to The All A State. Travis Perry's 28.2 ppg and Jackson Shoulders 19.2 ppg and 9.6 reb has the Lyons alone at the top. The loss in the first round of state though could be concerning for post season hopes on going to the big dance. #2 Hopkinsville (13-4) Coach Babb has his team playing at a elite level and on a 10 game win streak. The Tigers shoot really well and play great team ball. Look for them to make a real run at a region championship. #3 Madisonville (14-7) The Maroons have lost 3 of 5 games to good opponents and even with Cline quitting the team they handled Webster County fairly easy. Look for Jon Newton to have his team back on track soon. #4 Caldwell County (15-5) Has one of their best records in recent history, had a set back to Webster County by 5, but handled district foe Hopkins central by 10 twice. Jabrion Spikes and his 30.7 ppg continue to shine. #5 Union County (13-6) Winners of there last 4 and behind the play of kaleb kanipe and Izaih Manual beat district rivals Henderson County by 9 and Webster County by 24. Coach Quirten has this team playing well and favorites for the 6th district as of now. #6 Henderson County (12-9) Lost to union County by 9 and Lyon County by 20, but are still hanging around the top 5 as usual with there steady play. #7 Hopkins County Central (8-8) lost 4 of 6 last games and two to Caldwell County who they will probably play come district time. Coach Fraliex's team may be experiencing growing pains, but hope with Marcus Eaves 27.6 ppg and 9.6 reb along with Drake Skeen's 3.5 three's a game they get it together quick. #8 Webster County (10-12) lost to Union, Henderson County, and Madisonville before a double overtime win at Caldwell County. The hope to gain back there early season composure. #9 Trigg County (10-10) Coach Burgett is beating the teams he should and gives good teams a run in losses. Will there defense and big 3 on offense be enough to pull off a upset come district time? #10 UHA (7-10) Good win vs Calloway County but that is about all for the usual region giants. Still can make a region tourney spot but will have to play better to make any noise. #11 Crittenden County (10-10) With Travis Champion averaging 19.8 ppg the Rockets have no great wins but no bad losses to stay close in the top 10. #12 Christian County (6-15) Have lost 10 straight, things don't look to be getting better for the struggling Colonels. #13 Livingston Central (3-16) #14 Dawson Springs (2-18) #15 Ft. Madisonville and Lyon County are holding steady at #1 and #2, we shall see if they stay at these spots when they begin more regional play next week. Caldwell County has made a tremendous leap with two big wins behind Jabrion Spikes region leading 29.6 ppg. Hopkins Central beat a tough Paducah Tilghman and just lost to a very talented Calloway team in the 2A sectional final, so they are holding steady. Hopkinsville and Union County both are trending up with Webster County and Trigg County still trying to find some steady play. #1 Madisonville (11-4) went 3-1 on their trip to Florida, then had a little bit of a let down vs. Murray losing a close one. #2 Lyon County (7-4) Blowout vs. Crittenden County and won by 12 to Bella Vista prep out of Arizona. #3 Caldwell County (8-3) had huge wins vs. Marshall County by 6 and Christian County by 14, this is the first wins vs. these two since at least 1998. Jabrion Spikes had a 51 point outburst vs. Dawson Springs and is now leading the region in scoring. #4 Hopkins County Central (5-4) Won impressively over Paducah Tilghman by 12 and lost in the final seconds to Calloway County in the 2A sectional final. Lost earlier last week to a underrated Hancock team after not practicing for a week. They have four players averaging double figures to help Eaves out now. #5 Henderson County (8-4) TIE #6 Hopkinsville (7-4) beat Louisville Central and Kenwood, TN easily. TIE #6 Union County (8-4) Loss to Paducah Tilghman by 28 in the 2A sectional. #7 Webster County (6-8) Won by 3 vs Trigg County and lost to Calloway County by 14 in the 2A sectional. #8 Trigg County (7-6) Had a blowout win vs Hancock County and lost by 3 to Webster County in the 2A sectional. #9 Critteden County (6-6) A suprising rocket's team was beat easily by Lyon County and hung around but lost to Mayfield by 9. #10 UHA (5-7) Win vs. Marion, ILL by 12. #11 Christian County (4-8) Beat by Caldwell By 14 first loss in over 23 yrs to the Tigers. #12 (2-8)Livingston Central #13 (1-7)Dawson Springs #14 (1-9)Ft. Madisonville and Lyon Co. seem to be the only steady team's in the rankings. With both teams strength in schedule I still believe they are the clear choices at one and two. Three through ten have all been hard to figure out, although Hopkins Central grinded out good wins and Caldwell County makes a big jump after not playing last week. Hopkinsville seem to be the best out of the big 3 in Christian county. Webster is holding around the same spot all year, but will get some battles from Henderson and Union Co. in the 6th district. #1 Madisonville (7-2) The had a set back versus a tough Louisville Butler in their own Christmas classic losing by 3, but behind Cale Gaithers 21.8 ppg and Tow's 10.4 rebounds bounce back with wins over John Hardin and a pesky Hancock team by 3. No change #2 Lyon County (4-3) Got a 5 point win vs Belfry in the KBC, but Perry's region leading 30.9 points and Jackson Shoulders 21.9 points and 10.9 rebounds wasn't enough to over come Louisville Trinity's battle tested team in the KBC. No change #3 Hopkins Central (4-2) With grind it out victory's vs Graves County by 3 and Owensboro Catholic by 2, Marcus Eaves and his 29.8 ppg 11.9 reb continue to carry Hopkins Central. Up 2 spots #4 Henderson County (5-3) They had 62-47 win to Holy Cross and a blowout loss to undefeated Murray from region 1, still unsure about how good this team is, but they will be a top 5 come years end. No change #5 Webster County (5-4) With the only victory in the Agrigold Christmas tournament vs Atherton, disapointing losses to Mclean County and Bethleham they drop this week a couple spots. Down 2 spots #6 Caldwell County (5-2) Behind Jabrion Spikes 44 point and 30 point outburst they beat Bethelhem and Mayfield and with only 6 points from Spikes beat a tough Mclean County by 1 in the Agrigold christmas tournament, after not playing last week they make a big jump. Spikes is averaging 24.5 ppg and 9.3 reb. Up 3 spots #7 Hopkinsville (4-3) Wins vs Clarksville Northwest and a easy win vs Louisville Central. Lost Bowling Green by 7 in the Hopkinsville Toyota Classic. The tigers seem to be the team to beat in the 8th district and will be ready for post season with the stength in schedule. Down 1 spot #8 Union County (5-3) The 81.0 scoring average seem to come in to play vs Westview, Tn. winning 107-71. They also beat a up and down Trigg County team by 18. Up 2 spots #9 Christian County (3-5) I thought maybe this team was figuring it out but with only one win vs Clarksville Northwest, Tn. and two losses Louisville Central and Bowling Green in the Hopkinsville Toyota Classic loss what ground gained last week. Down 2 spots #10 Crittenden County (4-2) With the win vs Whitesville Trinity being the only game they gain a spot. Up1 spot #11 Trigg County (4-4) The Wildcats have been up and down, nothing changed they beat Russelville by 1 and get blownout by Union County. Down 1 spot #12 UHA (2-5) lost to Bowling Green in Hopkinsville Toyota Classic. With no more than a 2-5 record they drop several spots. The 2nd region didn't see alot of change this week with lack of games cancelled over storm damage. The teams ranked #5 through #10 had a little change and it will be interesting to see how they all shake out come tournament time. Madisonville played only one time this week, but still rule the roost with a win over Webster. Lyon is still at #2 after a couple losses in the Kentucky Bank Challenge. The next couple weeks we should get a better idea wear this teams stand. #1 Madisonville (5-1) Madisonville knocked off Webster Co. by a score of 64-77. They will play in their own christmas classic this week and see if lead by Cale Gaithers 20.8 scoring avg. they remain #1 next week. #2 Lyon Co. (3-2) With Travis Perry averaging 30.8 and Jackson Shoulders 12 rebounds a game they will try and get back on track after losing to a top 20 team from the 16th region Ashland by 7 in the King of the bluegrass. #3 Webster Co. (4-2) A suprising Webster Co. team lead by Bradin Nelson got knocked off by region #1 Madisonville by 13 points, they stayed at #3 this week interesting to see if this team will be for real or not later on. #4 Henderson Co. (3-3) They stay at #4 even after two 29 point losses to unbeaten Boyd Co. and 7-2 Flemming Co. in the Ky bank challenge. With the 2nd being a little weak this year I believe they can hover around this spot all year. #5 Hopkins Central (2-2) DNP we will see if they are for real when they play graves and Owensboro Catholic in Madisonville's classic this week. They are getting 29 a game from guard Marcus Eaves and 12 boards, he will need some help. #6 Hopkinsville (2-2) moved up from 10 to 6 after beating a decent Union Co. team 84-57. They possibly can find their stride and be a top 5 if they keep getting this production on offense. \ #7 Christian Co. (2-3) Beat district rival UHA 48-42 and only lost to Bowling Green by 2 last week, we shall see if this is a fluke or if Toby Miles has his team playing how Christian Co. traditionally does. #8 UHA (2-4) lost to Christian Co. by 6 and seem to be trending in a bad direction. We will see if 1st year coach Melvin Brown has what it takes to bring them out of this. #9 Caldwell Co. (2-2) DNP #10 Union Co. (3-3) lost to Hopkinsville 84-57, like I said before this is a hard team to figure out. We shall see when district play starts, what they are about. #11 Crittenden Co. (3-3) A suprise Crittenden Co. team beat Trigg by 2 and are even at 3-3, although I think it will be hard to stay around 500. all year. #12 Trigg Co. (3-3) After a loss to Crittenden and Lyon, Trigg falls a few spots. Coach Burgett and the athletic director lost family members in the recent tornadoes so I expect they will get on track soon. #13 Dawson Springs (1-6) DNP not sure when they will, continue to pray and donate to the community. #14 Livingston Central (1-5) lost to St. Mary 73-66. The bright spot is Max Downey's 28 points per contest this year. #15 Ft. Campbell (1-8) lost to UHA 66-16.

With the tragic tornado effecting several counties in the 2nd region, these ranking seem very insignificant. As they say ''the show must go on.'' This will be short and sweet this week. #1 (4-1) Madisonville only game win vs Dawson Springs. #2 (3-1) Lyon Co. beat Trigg Co. fairly easy #3 (4-1) Webster Co. win over previous #3 Hopkisville #4 (3-1) Henderson Co. win over UHA #5 (2-2) Hopkins Central with other teams losing they get bumped up. Not sure when they will play again. #6 (3-2) Trigg Co. beat Caldwell by 5 and lost to Lyon. #7 (3-2) Union Co. lost to Calloway, but seems legit. #8 (1-3) Christian Co. lost to Bowling Green by 2 there play seems to be trending up. #9 Caldwell Co. As of now all we know is that Lyon Co. is good and Madisonville is also. The question will be can a Hopkinsville, UHA, or a surprise team give them a run for their money and how good are Lyon and Madisonville compared to the rest of the top teams in the state? #1- Madisonville (2-1) Beat UHA fairly easy and new Heritage Christian with no problem, and played Castle out of Indiana but lost. With all starters returning and Newton running the show they get the #1 bid for now. #2- Lyon Co. (1-1) With a decent showing versus an improved Hopkins Central and battle with Goodpasture out of Tn. Perry and company look to go big this year and have the studs to do so. #3- Hopkinsville (1-0) With Babb at the Helm and a deep and athletic team look for Hoptown to be able to give the top a run for their money. Only game was a blowout vs Livingston Central. #4-UHA (1-1) New coach Melvin Brown has enough talent to be a top 5 team, if inexperience doesn't get them. Crubbs and Northington are ready to take over after losing key seniors from a state appearance last year. Lost to Madisonville by 11 and handled Caldwell Co. easily. #5 Webster Co. (3-0) This squad features a top region player in Bradin Nelson, plus Harmon and Murphy to boot. They are disciplined and physical, which can give any team trouble. Size is their only set back. Beat Central Hopkins by 14 and Apollo with out the big transfers. #6 Henderson County (1-0) They get the six spot because they always find to be in the region tournament and pretty good. They also got a kid named Davenport so if he can be like another Davenport in the 90's for Webster they will be good for a while. #7 tie Christian County (0-1) with a 19 point loss to a tough Muhlenberg team, it is still hard to rank them after first year coach Toby Miles had to deal with covid and zero wins in 2021. To early to tell..... #7 tie Hopkins Central (1-2) With Eaves as one of the best players in the region and some experience coming back with Weldon and Skeen. Look for Central to make the 2nd region tournament after a tough couple years. Played Lyon tight all the way into the 4th quarter but had let down vs Webster in a 14 point loss. #7 tie Trigg County (2-0) Coach Burgett has athletes and talent coming back with the Vaughn Brothers and Khaden Adams. they also return scoring threat Ahart. Defense will carry this team, but how far? #8 Caldwell (1-3) With a win over Union Co. but a tough loss to UHA by 24, they get #8 spot with talented Jabrion Spikes on there side they can still make a run for a region spot. #9 Union Co. (2-1) has been high scoring this year but have not played a tough schedule yet. Still trying to figure this interesting team out. #10 Dawson Springs (1-3) New coach Mickey Blue has all district player Rett Neeters returning at Center, and Dylan Skinner at guard. They also will be rebuilding, to early to tell..... #11 Crittenden (1-1) With a win vs a down Livingston team and loss to Union, it may be a tough year for the rebuilding rockets. #12 Livingston Central (0-3) With Max Downey being the only threat for the Cards, it could look a lot like last year. #13 Ft. Campbell (0-3) With no season last year and a revolving door of players each year, it a wait and see game for them.
