Close talker, my friend, you would be a prosecutor's dream. You have decided the matter with, actually, only an opening statement from the prosecution. Let's wait for all the facts- from both sides. The repercussions for damaging the reputation of an individual and harming that individual's pursuit of his profession (coaching) are far more serious, and more expensive, than bruising a peach. I have no idea in regard to how all of this will play out. However, I do feel fairly certain that there are many more cards than Greenup's original flop yet to be played. The aces and face cards may well still be in the deck. Right now, Greenup appears to have a pair of deuces and, maybe, a joker.

They can fire him. However, they can be held responsible for their actions if they are questionable and/or if they damage Coach Hicks. All this "letting the kids move on" is less than realistic. Does anyone believe that the "kids" haven't, long ago, staked their loyalties, grabbed their weapons, and dug their foxholes? So have their parents, brothers, sisters, grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends, neighbors, and acquaintances. Many hard feelings still exist over the Randy Ward firing and the school community never has healed. This is no different and anyone who thinks otherwise is dreaming.

I attended the SC-HHS game and, for the sake of a "complete" record, want to add the following observations: 1. The game was scheduled to start at 7:30 pm but HHS did not arrive at Memorial Coliseum until 7:23 pm. They received a full 30 minutes to warm up prior to the start of the game. 2. The PA man started to announce the HHS starting lineup but, alas, HHS was still in its dressing room. The team appeared about a minute and a half later. The PA man recovered and started over. 3. HHS had better looking uniforms. 4. I counted 32 cheerleaders for Scott County. Of course, with that many, I may have missed a half dozen or so. Not even Greenup County has that many cheerleaders and everyone around here knows that nothing, including educating students, remotely approaches cheerleading on Greenup County's list of priorities. HHS only had 16 or so cheerleaders but they had nicer uniforms. 5. HHS seemed to go through the motions of the game without showing too much interest until it was too late. 6. HHS's coach rivals the coach at NCHHS for noninvolvement in the game. OJ has had two real duds at his last two high school domiciles. The HHS coach should have been forced to buy a ticket like all the other spectators and, at times, he appeared to be bored, asleep, or some combination of the two. Of course, he had nothing to add anyway. Billy Hicks, on the other hand, worked hard for the win- physically and mentally. 7. Patterson may have needed more "touches" but he, quite possibly, should have worked a little bit to get loose and to earn some "touches". Of course, he may be saving all that "talent" for college. 8. Bud Mackey for SC was impressive. 9. I would suggest that you bet on HHS to win the return engagement in Huntington. With or without Mayo, HHS will be motivated and they will win. They certainly didn't appear to be motivated last Friday and it cost them any chance they had at a national championship rating. 10. Patterson may well be a fine prospect but he doesn't have the celebrity power of Mayo. The drawing card is clearly Mayo and not Patterson- even in Lexington. If you listened to the crowd, that was obvious. I understand that this fact is not pleasing to Mrs. Patterson. 11. The game was well worth the trip. If you can attend the repeat performance at Huntington, do so. However, don't expect SC to win again.

All of this talk about "the kids" sounds good. However, all should keep in mind that Coach Hicks has rights which he has every right to make sure are protected. To take at face value what is said and done by the Grenup County administration and its agents would not be wise. As Paul Harvey says, we need "the rest of the story". Coach Hicks deserves, at the every least, for us to reserve judgment until all the information is reported.

Actually, you didn't miss a good game. I do know that Queen led Rose Hill with 18 followed by Faulkner with 16, Terry with 11, Adkins 4, and Dundon 2. I don't know East Carter's statistics other than that Tackett was held to 6. Terry is still feeling the effects of her illness and needs to get her strength back. She is probably playing at about 25% of her normal "capacity". She is now 11 points short of 2,000.

As I have often stated, Intentional Foul, I am an advocate and not a reporter. I have also often stated that I am not a peacemaker who believes in turning the other cheek. I certainly admit to being inflexible but don't believe in playing the victim card. I am not a "victim's advocate". If you think otherwise, I am disappointed.

Incognito, my friend, too often the truth seems to depend upon who is relating the story. I once had a circuit judge tell me that it seemed that, in jury trials, the side that told the better lies usually won the case. Basketball is quite similar. To you it was a block, to me it was a charge. Even the referee doesn't know for sure. He just points one way or the other. As for Dobson, I have little use for "men of God" who appear to live too comfortably and you can certainly add Falwell, Lamb, Cerullo, Hinn, Parsley, and a goodly number of others to the list.

There is no need for me to refute your version of the facts because I cannot do so. Of course, neither can you prove them. If your people claim that "five contracts" were sent, I cannot disprove it. Come on Frances. I am saying that the fact that passing off the lack of local games on the Rose Hill AD is a little disingenuous since contact goes in both directions. For Ashland (you named them, not me) or any other locals to place the lack of the games with said locals on Pam Euton is less than honest. That is true regardless of who may be making the charge. I know that you are a cheerleader for the maroons but at least have a legitimate argument and don't be so condescending. It doesn't work.

Ashland plays an aggressive, physical man to man defense, sometimes press, but give up very few foul shots. I would have to put them at the top.

Ah, Frances, you again miss the point and demonstrate an understandable lack of knowledge of the rules of evidence. I do obviously have personal knowledge of what the local school official told me. Believe me, my friend, it isn't heresay. Would you have preferred that I put the man under oath before listening to him? On the other hand, do you have any direct knowledge of what you continue to post or is it coming from your sources on Blazer Blvd? If the latter is the case, I would submit that that is evidence of gross heresay because it is both second hand and less than objective. But, alas, why debate such mundane matters? The theme of discussion should be about Ashland's impressive win, the circumstances of the win, and what, if anything it means for the future "relationship" between two schools located far away from you up here in the 64th District.

I know that that spin has been used repeatedly by local ADs. However, I would think that area schools would take steps to make sure that they got a game or two with another local that is coming off a state finalist season. Those scheduling efforts go in two directions- not one. Telephones, faxes, emails, etc. actually go in both directions. If they wanted to schedule Rose Hill, as several seem to imply, all they had to do was initiate the effort. They didn't.

In high school athletics, "young" normally refers to what grade the kids are in rather than with chronological age. As SMOKEANDMIRRORS posted, it is all irrelevant if the child is eligible agewise through his/her senior year. I believe that Zonebuster23 was taking a thinly veiled shot and not clarifying anything. I also think that you may be the only one who interpreted his post as merely giving information.

When I report what I was told first hand, it is not heresay, Frances. It would be heresay if I reported what was said by the inquiring parents themselves since I didn't hear it. I reported what I was told. If this were not permissible, no one could ever testify as to what they were told or what they actually heard directly. You know that is not the case. It is not particularly my intention to take cuts at anyone. However, I will answer obvious cuts with a like response. That is how the game is played. I'm not going to take time to rebut your interpretation of the facts but do feel compelled to mention that, since you are 180 or so miles away from the "subject matter" and since your information comes from one less than independent source, you may not be in a position to have much direct input. Let's not let this thread digress from its purpose. Ashland got an impressive win last night. That is the story. That should be the story. Much can be "cussed and discussed" as to what the win means or how the win came about. That should be the focus. Having said that, I will include a caveat. If I perceive what I consider illegitimate cuts against my personal favorites, I will respond in kind. As I have stated many times, I am not an advocate of turning the other cheek.

As I recall Zonebuster23, not I, raised the issues. I believe he is one of your boys. When he, you, or anyone else takes shots, they should be answered. Try reading the posts that lead up to a post that "offends" you. It never hurts to be informed. Try it sometime. Your overreaction indicates that I hit a nerve. Good. On the other hand, I cannot win arguing with one with a split personality, can I?

In defense of the Rose Hill schedule, I believe that four games were allocated for the Class A tournament. Of course, Raceland put an end to that. However, at the beginning of the year I think it was quite reasonable to believe that Rose Hill would reach the tournament and very possibly go to the finals. The way the brackets are shaping up would add credence to that assumption. There is also the fact, for whatever reasons may be stated, that Rose Hill's "neighbors", other than Boyd County (home and home) , East Carter (once at East Carter), and West Carter (once at West Carter), Fairview (once at RH), and Elliott County (once at RH) didn't schedule any games with the state finalists. To date, Rose Hill's girls have played only two home games this year- one with BC and one with LexCath. That's it. Coach Euton is trying to schedule additional games with teams from down state. It is difficult for now but, of course, Coach Euton will have no trouble scheduling games next season.

I agree with much in your post but would have liked to have seen it without the typical cut- this time about holding back students. Rose Hill, like most every other school in the area, has kids who have been held back a year. Even your beloved favorite has, in recent years, held back students for athletics. Whether those kids "panned out" may be another story. In fact, I was told by a school leader in another local school, that some Ashlanders approached the school about allowing some elementary boys to repeat an elementary grade at the school. I was told that the families abandoned the idea when they were told that they would have to pay tuition. I would agree that much of Rose Hill's success against younger Ashland teams has been due to the Rose Hill coaching staff- from third grade up. However, an honest assessment must conclude that Rose Hill, for whatever reason, has had superior players. For example, Rose Hill has repeatedly defeated Ashland's 8th grade team. The games are usually fairly close. However, it is noteworthy that Rose Hill does so with 7th graders since only one 8th grader, Alex Malloy, plays on the team. And, in fact, last week, when RH again beat your 8th grade (on your home court), Malloy didn't even dress for the game. Thus, 6th and 7th graders are beating 8th graders. I'm sure that is a concern to you. I agree that Rose Hill has superior coaching at several levels including, as you said, the JV. However, you can't win without talent and there is a decided difference in the talent levels of the two schools from the 9th grade down. Without a goodly number of transfers, Ashland should have problems the next few years. As T-CAT4LIFE, said, they will "just reload". The question will be in regard to whether the gun is reloaded with bullets or bbs. This post is not meant as a negative toward Ashland but merely one person's analysis, based upon a decent level of personal knowledge of the facts, of the situation as it now stands. None of us know the future and can only use the facts as they now appear.

I believe, Dawgdays, that Dakotah first came to Rose Hill for the 2000-2001 school year although I could be mistaken. That would mean that he is in his seventh year at Rose Hill.

Although Rose Hill posters are disappointed with tonight, I would believe it is safe to say that they are confident about the next five years or so. I did notice a lot less animosity between the adults of the two schools. Shoot, I was greeted after the game by people who haven't spoken to me in five years. I don't know if that is because Ashland won or if there is a bit of "thawing" taking place. Hopefully, it is the latter. The next couple of years could clarify it.
