  1. There are two main middle school leagues in nky as I understand it. Really just one that holds the majority of the teams, the NKMSAA. Yes, it would be great if they had a scoreboard of some sort. Or even a calendar, and not a downloadable PDF for schedules. There’s a lot that could be done there. It would also be nice if they had contact information available so that interested parties could reach out to either help or ask for more information.
  2. They were supposed to play Highlands tonight and cancelled.
  3. Should be a fun one vs Highlands. They were up 34-0 on cooper until the last play of the game. CovCath, Beechwood and HHS appear to be the teams to beat.
  4. It might not take as long as some think. I’m not sleeping on this squad, but they will be stacked next year. This group has some solid seniors, but the juniors and sophomores are killing it right now. And current freshmen are loaded. They’re about to go on a 2-3 year run Highlands fans haven’t seen since the Mueller era.
  5. It’s not for academic reasons. Let’s not be naive.
  6. Freshmen reclassifying. Gotta love it. Did they not get to go to enough camps or get enough exposure….
  7. Lol. Is Beechwood’s feeder Union Raider Youth now. Or is it the Bandits?
  8. This makes the most sense to me thus far as for the perceived influx of cincy kids. Speaking of colonel youth, how does that work for the teams that play in the NKMSAA? From what I understand the 7th graders (NKMSAA) have to attend a parochial school, no public. The younger teams (GCYL) just have to be parish members. But this year they have two 8th grade teams if I understand correctly. One playing GCYL and one playing NKMSAA. Do they really have one 8th grade team that consists solely of parochial students, and another 8th grade team that allows public school kids? *not sure what’s up the quote. It was in regards to colonel youth playing in the GCYL
  9. Agreed. And it’s the only major private school in NKY. There are a bunch of them in Cincinnati, and that’s why it’s a non issue over there. So I think the river does make a difference. Those teams are competing against one another. CovCath has no real competitor in NKY when it comes to private schools. I appreciate all of the info. And if the faithful are okay with it, it is what it is. I don’t believe it’s the same dynamic as it was 20 years ago though, unless someone can breakdown where the kids on the football team, 9-12 are living these days. I’m sure someone knows right? I’m told the frosh are loaded with Ohio kids. Is that untrue? If not, what changed. Has covcaths tuition not always been less than the Cincinnati schools? The only reason I’m asking this stuff is out of curiosity. I’m fascinated with the differences between private and public and the challenges / advantages posed. What seems to have taken place at CovCath the last 5+ years seems pretty unique, and where better to get the scoop.
  10. Sounds about like what I would expect. Are we saying that this is still the case or no? As it relates to the football team.
  11. I remember them being extremely competitive, great even, in the 90s.
  12. Hell I have no idea. I’d love to see a map of where the players live now, vs 20 years ago tho.
  13. Jesus. I have no children attending CovCath. I do however feel for those kids who it might affect. No skin in the game whatsoever though. I just prefer the way it used to be.
  14. I fully expect any private school to have kids from outside the neighborhood. It just feels like it’s been taken to another level entirely when the starting 5 all live in another state. I have been lead to believe this is becoming the norm in football as well. Maybe I’m just living in the past.
  15. Fair enough. I have only recently started following the local sports scene again and this is the one thing that struck me as different from say 20 years ago. I have a lot of family that went to CovCath and it seemed like back then at least, they pulled from Edgewood, Villa Hills, Covington, Ft Mitchell and Ft Wright. Which made/makes sense. IMO rivalries and community support are always better when the teams are made up of kids from the area. Just curious if that was how the fan base felt. Thanks.
  16. High school preseason rankings mean nothing. I worry about the home life of anyone who’s job it is to make such determinations.
  17. I’m not implying any wrong doing. I’m just curious if the fans still feel like it’s a community team. Where kids growing up in the area want to go ,and take pride in. Or is there a belief that it’s not worth it because the school doesn’t want that anymore.
  18. Do the Covington Catholic faithful feel a disconnect with the direction of the football and basketball programs? Is there less of a community feel? Was there ever? Is there animosity from locals about it becoming a commuter school for Ohio kids that could care less about Park Hills, Covington, or the surrounding areas? Maybe this has always been the case, I really don’t know. This isn’t the way I remember the colonels fielding teams back in the day, so I wondered how fans feel about it. Or if they even care as long as they win.
  19. I respectfully disagree. Anyone watching the game knew BG was inches from blocking every single one of HHS’s punts tonight. Backed up like that, down 5, everyone had it in the back of their mind. I know I did. Even going for it would have been better than punting. I like the call. But the punt protection needs work.
