The Cov Cath 8th grade team made the Cincy Catholic Big School final so I’m definitely expecting the freshman class to have some big-time players that can contribute next year.

Is Sanning a soph or a transfer? Not surprisingly, there are some really good athletes back there. Also on the LBs, I expect Tate Kruer to be a very good high school player the next couple years. Athleticism and instincts.

I think Cov Cath wins, but I expect Ryle to be competitive. A few things I'm looking for (at least for CCH): 1. The size and physicality on the line of scrimmage. This is, by far, the biggest question I have this year. 2. Early down play calling and run game design. Both of these have to get better from the last few seasons if we want to be serious about competing to win 4A. The good news is it sounds like some changes have been made over the offseason. 3. How much of a difference maker is Willie Rodriguez? I think he's going to need to be a true dominant player to beat some of the better teams on the schedule and in the playoffs. Looking forward to watching him after his huge offseason.

I think that Cov Cath will have a pretty good team with a skill position group that would not look out of place in the GCL South. Having said that, I would be stunned if we’re better than Trinity.

Anyone know if there is a stream of the scrimmage on Friday?

Thanks. I wasn’t aware Suwinski and Reardon were off the roster. Definitely hurts depth and I thought Reardon was good as a soph last year. Regardless, I agree that those 4 are very talented players.

If Harney has shown enough to be starting at Safety in the summer, my guess is Noah Johnson is playing the nickel role that Oliver Bent played last year. With that, I feel really good about 9 of the starters on defense. The 8 guys that don’t have their hand down plus Ben Reeves at interior DL. The other comment I had on defense is outside of Zion Mason, I think Braylon Miller is the best player we’ve had at corner in a decade plus. Loose, athletic and real good ball skills.

Hopefully this is true. I really don't think we need to change a ton. Just throw the ball a little more on early downs to avoid 2nd and 3rd and long and then get a little more diverse in the run game (aka stop spamming QB Iso). Two little tweaks and hopefully we can find a 2nd back that Coach EE trusts to give carries to and I think we'll be pretty good.

I for sure think he has a role this year and is a big time weapon in 24 and 25. Him along with Oliver Link and Donovan Bradshaw is a very, very nice trio to get the ball to for Harney in 24. If he ended up at Ludlow, I’m not kidding when I say I think he’d run for 2500 yards a year as a junior and senior at that level. You are right that he would absolutely dominate.

I agree with this. It would not surprise me at all if, after he gets some senior tape out there at this bigger size, that some of the big dogs come calling trying to fill out their class.

Can’t say I agree with overrated considering a staff that just watched the 33rd pick in the draft for 3 years and a player that had a 35-5 TD to INT ratio in the ACC for 15 practices in the spring offered him, thinking he can be on that level in a few years. The rankings? Sure, I think anything before after the soph season is over in HS is dumb, but offers say a lot. It’s obviously a huge miss for CCH. I say that and still think both soph QBs will be really good and would win a ton of games as Jrs/Srs as the starter.

And recruiting rankings/offers aren’t *everything* as a high school player, as many are based on projection and athletic traits. BUT, I think I would want to take my chances with a kid with an SEC offer at 14/15.

Wow. This is a huge miss. Not sure what happened here, maybe the family thought playing in the GCL would be better development/exposure, but this is no doubt a big loss not having him at the school.

I would be stunned if anyone other than Pitzer started at QB. I think what you’ll see is Pitzer have a really good season with a chance to win 4A pending the line play (we just can’t get killed) and how good Boyle/Corbin/JC/etc are. My guess is Cash starts his Jr/Sr year with Gaiser being an All-NKY caliber RB/WR those years and Reardon being a 2.5 year starter at safety. Imo you play Gaiser at RB and use him like Bama used Gibbs last year or how Kamara is used. Try to split touches between carries and catches out of the backfield.

In the three years they've been streaming the freshman games, Gaiser was pretty comfortably the best player I saw at Cov Cath with the ball in his hands. He needs 5-6 touches a game even with everyone returning.

Also related, is Donovan Bradshaw playing? Even with everyone returning at receiver, he should see targets as a red zone threat as a soph with his rare size for the position.

This is good to hear. He started the last half of the season and is definitely a good athlete with a nose for the football. He and Noah Johnson will be a very good NKY safety tandem this year.

My brief look through their 23 thread showed 3 guys on the OL coming back that really beat up a senior dominated CCH front (who only has 1 guy returning). That plus a returning QB and a really dynamic RB. As of now, I have a hard time seeing CCH getting stops early in the year. Now, I’m fully expecting Cov Cath to also score a lot of points with how deep, experienced, big and athletic they are at WR/TE and QB. That’s why I’m 50/50 on it.

I really don’t know enough about all the teams to make a super educated opinion….but anyway I think it’s probably Cov Cath/Highlands 1/2 and I can be convinced either way. Then a small gap to Cooper and then there’s a gap to the next group of teams (BW/SK/Ryle).

I have heard nothing but good things about Coach Shelton. Was a really good player for CCH and even at 25 (?), I would not be surprised to see him take over a program like this and have success.

Wow. Willie is getting into a new level of offer now. He could easily end up playing in the new expanded playoff if he decided to go to Ole Miss. I assume they also have a real competitive NIL package too. The fact he’s getting these with good (not great) size and good (not great) athleticism let's you know how good of a football player coaches like Kiffin and Fleck think he is. Certainly not a height-weight-speed project. Might be the best player in the state this year.

The only way CCH loses to SK is if the younger linemen are nowhere near where I think they are and SK controls the clock. Crone was a very good HS QB and there is going to be a big drop off to the soph I assume they will start. Not like that's a negative to the soph as I'm sure he'll wind up being a fine player in a couple years, but Crone was in the Mr. Football conversation and a big, physically mature QB. After looking through the Highlands thread, it's probably a toss up with what they have back on the LOS. However, I think we will be a good amount better on the perimeter than them (Heck, our third leading receiver last year in his first varsity game as a soph was able to out physical older, startng GCL South corners for contested catches). Assuming we don't try to run the ball right at them (fingers crossed), we should be able to put up some points. I am also very, very excited to see Rodriguez play at about 15 to 20 lbs of good weight heavier than last year. He was already a super physical player, but I think he has a chance to be a true game changer and Mr. Football candidate this year (ex. 1000 yards, 15 TDs, 10 sacks on D).

Just my opinion after watching them throw the ball last year, I think Cash spins it better and will be a very quality starting HS QB. I think Gaiser would be a really good HS QB too, but him getting 12-15 touches a game at WR/RB with Cash at QB gives us the best chance to win in 24 and 25. I think Gaiser is a better and more explosive athlete. Regardless, I think the 23-25 (at least) run of skill position talent for CCH is going to be very, very good.

There is no controversy. The gap between Pitzer and Harney is pretty big right now. The CCH/BW game last year showed the gap (which is ok for players two classes apart!) I do think Harney would start in 24 and 25, however. I thought Dylan Gaiser (CCH rising Soph) would be more than a capable starter for those years, but he has a ton of juice and will be a big time player as a WR/RB hybrid.

I just find that hard to believe with how much he has accomplished. I'm not sure how old Coach Rash is, but it seemed reasonable that he would retire based on that alone and not based upon other factors. Maybe I'm wrong though.
