Presupposing Coach Weinrich is done at the end of the season, I have to think that the litmus test very literally will be beating CCH, or more specifically, someone who either has coaching wins over CCH or who has a track record of sustained success on a high level that would translate easily to Highlands' success in the district. I don't know that anyone in NKY fits that bill right now, save for Noel Rash. There are a handful of coaches and more than likely some assistant coaches in the GCL who would fit the bill too, although I don't know that Highlands would be interested at looking to give an assistant coach their first shot at head coaching. Weinrich is 2-6 against CCH with his two wins coming in Eviston's first season at CCH while he still had remnant players from the Dale Mueller system, so that should answer your question. Borchers is 0-5 with his teams outscored 222-19 against CCH and his JV team lost 54-0 to CCH this year. That doesn't pass the litmus test. I think that should basically cover the discussion as @Sweeperboy seems to have implied.

Here is how Coach Borchers' name was dropped in the first place. As for why, you would have to ask @Rocket Man for a definite answer, but I would guess that is rooted in the second post in this thread which implicates that the Highlands loss to Cooper is the proverbial nail in the coffin for Coach Weinrich's career as the Highlands head football coach. The sixth post in the thread seems to support that hypothesis.

Against "a Boone County team with a lot of sophomores" as in "against the Boone County Rebels froshmore team"? Or as in "against a froshmore team from one of the Boone County high schools"?

One thing I've not seen mentioned is that in normal years freshman seasons are capped at 10 games. A playoff would kill that. In NKY we used to have a single game championship played between several of the larger schools where the two teams for the championship were selected based on records. I remember attending a CCH vs. Ryle freshman championship game in the early 90s at Ryle when the school was brand new, and then I attended another between HHS and CCH in 2010 where HHS won 36-14. Seems to me that Beechwood, Boone, Campbell, Conner, CCH, Dixie, HHS, Holmes, SK and Ryle were generally in the mix. I can't speak for other schools, but CCH didn't usually play Beechwood on the freshman level until the last decade or so, and I can recall some years where folks from some of the smaller schools had a lot of heartburn over people from the bigger programs declaring themselves NKY freshman champions when there were other teams around the region that didn't get a bite at the apple. I don't remember hearing much about NKY championship games in recent years, and I was kind of hopeful that the 'TBD' on the CCH frosh schedule was a hopeful slot for a championship game.

I wanna start off by saying that I love a good Jim Rome reference when it can be worked in, so your post automatically gets racked for that one. However.. I hope this doesn't come off as ragging on you because I'm not intending it that way. I wasn't trying to talk down about Coach Borchers necessarily so much as call a spade a spade. I didn't say anything that wasn't true about the guy. Cooper obviously doesn't have the momentum that they did when the program was new. Cooper hasn't had a winning season since 2016 and unless they can pull off upsets against Ryle and Dixie, it's looking like 2020 will be a 50/50 season at best. Like it or not, if someone isn't right for the job then someone just isn't right for the job. Doesn't make them a bad person. At Ford, quality is job one and at Highlands, beating CCH is job one. Coach Borchers' resume states to the contrary.

Let's also not forget, Coach Borchers' coaching record against CCH. He's 0-5 and his teams have been outscored 222-19. I just don't see that being enough to cut the mustard for the Bluebirds.

Definitely what my thoughts were when I read Borchers name mentioned. He had early momentum, but that's definitely sputtered, and he's had lots of parents pushing back about the way he runs his program at Cooper. Several families managed to depart Cooper to get their kids into the program at Boone County because they thought higher of Bryson Warner. Another family or two came to CCH. Hell, Jeremiah Lee was doing his winter workouts and conditioning completely separate from the rest of the team the last couple of years. That doesn't sound like the man they need to give Highlands a shot in the arm and inspire the boys in the Highlands locker room to their greatest potential.

I have to think somebody from Ft. Thomas will reach out to him, but no one with any official credentials in the situation. I'm suspect that there is some serious chatter happening among the Highlands Boosters about what they can do to get the administration hear their concerns and respond with an ouster of Coach Weinrich. So reaching out to Coach Wolfe may not take place this week, but I think it'll happen at some point. And if Weinrich is gone at the end of the year, Highlands is absolutely bonkers not to at least reach out and ask him.

CCH's last 4 wins have literally been their 4 district games. Explain to me, please, how to change that up?

And if he is, would he consider it? I've got to think he would. Especially with all the griping he's been doing about the schools in Louisville this season.

If voting goes the direction of "top game changer for the program" rather than "top football player" as it has a few times in the past (see: D'Mauriae VanCleave) then I think Hergott is easily among the frontrunners for Mr. Football.

That's pretty crazy to think about. If it's true, Weinrich definitely needs to make sure that coach is off his staff in short order. Like before the end of the football season. But that also points to a much larger problem within the program, again, if true. That means that the coaching staff itself doesn't have faith in the other coaches on staff to give an athlete the proper coaching. If you ask me, the Brian Weinrich experiment has gone on long enough. As soon as the upperclassmen who were brought up in the Dale Mueller program graduated, the HHS program plummeted. Weinrich has had 4-1/2 years to get "his program" instituted, and has not been able to get it done. The end of the season makes 5 years. 5 years is exactly how long it took the CCH administration to learn that Dave Wirth, although a great guy, was not the guy to keep the program in championship form. Let's hope that the HHS admins follow that lead.

How is Cam Geisler's transfer out of Highlands related to the coaching staff not all being 100% on board with Brian Weinrich?
