I googled him. He was an assistant until 2013 when he took over the program at Lafayette when Carl Hayden resigned. So he has two finals appearances, but no titles.

He's still a head coach. Definitely isn't in Kentucky any more, but that's not what I was asking. Any other head coaches with Kentucky titles coaching programs outside of the state?

Rody is an opportunistic feeder. Always looking for the next best thing, and in an ideal world he was hoping to eventually land a job coaching in the big-time college ranks. Not sure whether or not that's still on his list of things to do at this point. I remember Coach Ray recommending to Clines and the hiring committee at CCH that they not hire Rodenberg even though on paper he looked like the best hire, because he'd inevitably be moving on as soon as possible. Mike Clines, the know-it-all of all know-it-alls, went ahead and hired him anyway. Rodenberg came from 11 years at McNick, won his state championship at CCH the year after he was hired, and then immediately skipped across the river to Roger Bacon the next year. A lot of people saw it as Rodenberg heading back to his alma mater when in reality, it was Rodenberg heading for an opportunity to step into head coaching in the GCL. Then Moeller opened up the next year and and he skipped to Moeller. He was hoping success at Moeller would be his ticket to college coaching, but after he floundered at Moe he was canned and the best opportunity he could find was Lawrence Central. Then two years later he saw the opportunity at Roncalli, and now he's in Indy. Opportunistic feeding. 6 jobs in 27 years of head coaching. 10+ years at two of those jobs.

Definitely agree about Barth. Tend to agree with you on Lickert too. Rodenberg, I'd tend to agree with theguru's sentiment. Rody coaches football as a job, not as a calling. He could more than likely come in and do good things at Highlands if hired. Not sure how long he would or wouldn't stay. He was happy at Moeller and stayed there until he was shown the door so who knows, maybe that could happen at Highlands.

Anyone want to conjecture about who will be applying or interviewing? Or who HHS is going to be reaching out to? My understanding has been that Steve Lickert left Campbell County and took the job at NCC in hopes of having an appearance or two in the state finals as a resume booster for the day and time that the job came available on Memorial Parkway. Guessing Jeff Barth will be involved in the conversation somewhere along the line too. Chris Wolfe, well, we all know that there will be talk about him applying or being asked to apply. Any chance of that? I've seen Marc Clark and Andrew Coverdale mentioned elsewhere. How about John Rodenberg? He certainly seems like he's a gun for hire with a good resume and Greater Cincy roots. He holds 4 state titles in 3 different states.

Rody took over at Roncalli High in Indy this past February and just won them their 10th Indiana D1 title last month. Now he has coached for state titles in Kentucky, Ohio and Indiana.

Based on your posts circa 2008-2014, I'm pretty sure you would be the first person in line to shine a light on any perceived misfortunes that might befall the CCH athletic programs. Hell, I don't feel like that's really changed in the last half a decade either. But someone (accurately) points out that Highlands has pushed out 3 of their last 4 football coaches, and you want to make it out like doing that is a no-no? Somebody can dish it out but can't take it back.

NCC is saying that the game was never scheduled for the 19th. That's completely contrary to what Darnell says in the second paragraph of his memo. They said the game was scheduled for Friday the 20th, but with NCC playing their games at Newport Stadium and with Newport Public hosting there on the 20th, that moved the Bellevue/NCC game to Saturday the 21st. The gist of things as I read Darnell's letter said, "NCC whipped us 42-7 three weeks ago. COVID cases are going up right now and I'm just going to cancel the game instead of risking any additional spread in the process of having a rinse and repeat of the first game. Hopefully if I try to point the blame elsewhere, I'll have more football parents mad at NCC than I do at me."

Conner and Dixie just scheduled varsity after their games were called because of Covid. I doubt that gets called unless there's a positive test at CCH or Boone.

Overheard from the freshman locker room post-game: "Way to make the entire freshman team not like Geisler. Who cares if it doesn't make sense to have him play freshman with only 2 games left? It's a jerk move when there are already freshman on CCH team who are better than him. His parents must be friends with Coach E from Ft. Thomas days."
