Bellevue pulls out of playoffs

Been waiting for a school to do this.  Not play due to an opponent having covid issues.  While I get where they are coming from after reading the principals letter he really blames his opponent.  I don't think we can start doing this.  Nobody wants to catch this and its everywhere.  We can't start pointing fingers at each other.  If he didn't want to play due to concerns that is fine but he makes sure he points the finger then suspends all athletic activities until the 30th anyway.  Doing that alone means no football playoff game.  I respect his decision but really question his need to push the blame for his decision on another school, then suspend all athletics anyway.

Strange and rough times these are indeed.

I know folks in both programs and evidently there is some bad blood this year between the 2 schools and perhaps this has something to do with his tact.  In any event, in my humble opinion, he should have taken the high road.  Others closer to the programs can perhaps shed more light.  I am just hoping Newport and Lloyd get to play!!!!

It’s a tough situation for all in involved.

They cancelled their final regular season game.  There were rumblings that Bellevue was going to cancel this even game prior to NCC having a positive test. I don’t envy his position, but agree with you on how he worded it, passing the blame around a bit.

Either way I feel for the Bellevue kids, tough season and tough ending. They battled through a lot this year between low numbers and injuries.

Yes I have a lot of respect for Bellevue coaches and players.  Have some great kids.  Battled until the end in the game I saw them play against Newport.

Bellevue was slated to play New Cath in the first round, correct?

Yes, so from the bracket I seen NCC will get the first round bye and another weekend off.

Is there any safer team to play than one that has been in quarantine for two weeks?

NCC is saying that the game was never scheduled for the 19th. That's completely contrary to what Darnell says in the second paragraph of his memo. They said the game was scheduled for Friday the 20th, but with NCC playing their games at Newport Stadium and with Newport Public hosting there on the 20th, that moved the Bellevue/NCC game to Saturday the 21st.

The gist of things as I read Darnell's letter said, "NCC whipped us 42-7 three weeks ago. COVID cases are going up right now and I'm just going to cancel the game instead of risking any additional spread in the process of having a rinse and repeat of the first game. Hopefully if I try to point the blame elsewhere, I'll have more football parents mad at NCC than I do at me."

This is Bush league. They cancelled they final game of the season against Lloyd as well. If you can’t field a formidable team then don’t waste people’s time scheduling.

Well good for them.
