I had said that the margin had gotten slimmer between these two in all 3 of the previous contests. Since game 3 was only a one point game, this wasn't too surprising. Looks like the Defenders took "that road in Lexington that runs through FD" and found the way last night.

Good win for Station. Henry Clay had been playing very well down the stretch. The Defenders have narrowed the margin against the Broncos in each game so far. Do they get over the top on Friday?

Boyle has had a lot of talent to finish the last 3 years 44-41 with no wins in the regional tournament.

Somerset came back from a 14 point deficit and survived a 3 point attempt at the buzzer to get by Rockcastle County 45-43. They'll play Pulaski in the district finals.

Final from the Briar Patch. Rockcastle had Somerset down by at least 14 points. The Jumpers hit 2 free throws with 21.8 seconds left to go up by 3. Rockcastle was fouled, made the first free throw but missed the second. The Rockets got the rebound and got off a last second 3 for the win, but it was long.

Since it seems to be an annual point of discussion for the football playoffs, should basketball also look at limiting the amount of teams that make the district tournaments? The Herald Leader ran a district preview article. The article said that the 44th was the only district to do a blind draw. But it didn't say if that was in the region, or the whole state. @gchs_uk9 might know.

It doesn't quite seem possible that the regular season is over, and postseason is upon us. But here we are. Before we get into the district matchups, let's take a last look at the regular season rankings. 1. Great Crossing (26-4) 2. Frederick Douglass (22-3) 3. Bryan Station (22-6) 4. Henry Clay (20-7) 5. Lexington Catholic (20-9) 6. Madison Central (18-11) 7. Sayre (16-11) 8. Frankfort (22-7) 9. Madison Southern (15-15) 10. Franklin County (11-13) 11. Lafayette (12-16) 12. Tates Creek (12-15) 13. Lexington Christian (14-16) 14. Model (15-13) 15. Berea (13-15) 16. Western Hills (9-19) 17. Scott County (6-20) 18. Paul Laurence Dunbar (3-26) 19. Frankfort Christian (4-23) District 41 At Franklin County The Quarterfinal game features Frankfort taking on Frankfort Christian. The two teams have met twice this season, and the Panthers blew out the Royals each time, 76-25 in the season opener, and 78-36 on January 30th. This one shouldn't be any different. The prize for the winner is a matchup with powerhouse Great Crossing in the semifinals. Frankfort has had a great turnaround this season under Coach McKinney. But the Warhawks will just be too much, and should come out of this side of the bracket. The other semifinal matchup features Western Hills against Franklin County. Franklin County won both regular season meetings between the two teams, 55-49 and 72-39. Neither team comes in hot, as Franklin County has lost 6 of their last 8, while Western Hills has dropped 3 of their last 4. There is the old adage that it is hard to beat a team 3 times in a season. But, with the game being at Franklin County, I think the Flyers win a close one to reach the finals against Great Crossing, Great Crossing has not been pushed by any of their district opponents all season, and I can't see it happening in the district finals. Give me Great Crossing as the District Champion, and Franklin County as the Runner-up to move on to the 11th Region Tournament. District 42 At Scott County The one quarterfinal game in this district features Sayre and Scott County. The teams have met twice this season, both blowout wins by Sayre. The Spartans should make it 3 for 3 and move on to the semifinals where they will face Frederick Douglass. The Broncos won both matchups between the teams this- season, 74-68 and 85-64. The Spartans have shown that they can play with the Broncos, and have faced a brutal schedule down the stretch. But, in the end, I think Douglass will be a bit too much for Sayre and move on to the finals. The other side of the bracket features a great matchup between Bryan Station and Henry Clay in an elimination game. One of the top 5 teams in the region will be going home in the first round. Station won both regular season matchups between the two teams, 64-56 and 55-54. Frankly, this game is looking like a toss-up with whoever has the ball last having a shot at the win. In this case, I'll go with the "it's hard to beat a good team 3 times" and pick the Blue Devils in a thriller. That would put Frederick Douglass in the finals against the survivor of the Henry Clay/Bryan Station slugfest. Such a tough semifinal could affect the Blue Devils and Defenders one of two ways. Either the effort and emotion involved in a tough elimination game leaves them somewhat drained, and they don't have enough left to push Frederick Douglass, or the emotional high of a big win creates a wave that they ride to an upset in the finals. In this case, I think Frederick Douglass is just a bit better than either Henry Clay or Bryan Station, and picks up a hard fought win to go in the 11th Region Tournament as a winner. I'll take Henry Clay to move on in the Runner-up role District 43 At Paul Laurence Dunbar This district also features a quarterfinal game, this one between Tates Creek and the host Paul Laurence Dunbar. The Bulldogs have suffered through a nightmare of a season, going 3-26. The Commodores also finished below .500 at 12-15, but are much improved from last season. They should have enought to get by PLD without too much trouble. That would put them in the semifinals against perhaps the region's hottest team, Lexington Catholic. The Knights, who lost almost all of their scoring from last season to graduation, took a little while to get going this season. They have now won 13 out of their last 14, and are a very dangerous team. They should dispose of Tates Creek to make it to the finals. The other semifinal matchup features Lexington Christian Academy and Lafayette. The Generals lost their first 6 games of the season, and were sitting at 3-10 at the end of 2024. Since the calendar flipped to 2025, Lafayette has seen somewhat of a resurgence going 9-6 in the new year. LCA has been a bit of a roller coaster ride all season, never winning or losing more than 3 in a row. They did beat Lafayette 77-61 two weeks ago, but losses last week to Western Hills and Frankfort are a cause for concern. This game is a coin flip. But I'll take the Generals in a nail-biter to move on. Lexington Catholic should be able to get by either LCA or Lafayette in the finals without too much trouble. I'll take the Knights to move on as District Champion, and the Generals as Runner-up to also make it to the region. District 44 At Eastern Kentucky University District 44 is the only 4 team district in the 11th Region, and also the only one to do a blind draw to determine the district matchups. It is a shame that seeding isn't used, as the 2 best teams in the district will meet up in the first round, and one will go home, when they should be going to the region. Those two teams are Madison Southern and Madison Central. The two teams have faced off twice this season with Central winning both games, 73-69 and 71-59. The Eagles simply had no answer for Jake Feldhaus in either game. My guess is that he will be the difference maker in this one as well. Give me the Indians to move on to the finals in a close one. The other semifinal features Model against Berea. The team met once earlier this season, with Model pickup up a 55-46 road win over the Pirates. That win was the only win against an 11th Region foe all season for the Patriots. This one is too close to call, but since I have to, I'll pick Berea to get revenge for the earlier game and move on to face Madison Central. Central hasn't faced Berea or Model this season. In the end, I don't think it matters which team comes out of the other semifinal. Whether it is the Patriots or the Pirates, I think the Indians pick up an easy win and move on the the 11th Region Tournament. There you have it. That's how I see it going. That would set up an 11th Region Tournament consisting of: Champions: Great Crossing, Frederick Douglass, Lexington Catholic, Madison Central Runner Ups: Franklin County Henry Clay Lafayette Berea What have I got right, and what have I got wrong? One thing has been a constant in the 11th Region so far this season: Great Crossing has been ranked number one. Frederick Douglass has been right behind them most of the season. Both teams had yet to lose in 2025. That changed for one of them last week. Would it be enough to shake up the Big 3 at the top of the region? Somehow we're down to the last week of regular season play before the districts. Here's how we stand with most teams having only one or two games to go. 1. Great Crossing (24-4) The Warhawks went 2-0 last week, but they had to work for it. On Wednesday they picked up a road win over George Rogers Clark, 55-43. Malachi Moreno was the key in what was a defensive struggle. The UK signee poured in 22 points and pulled down 20 rebounds to lead Great Crossing to the win over a good GRC team. Valentine's Day brought a home game with South Laurel, who pushed the Warhawks to the limit before falling 61-58. Vince Dawson paced the team in scoring against the Cardinals with 20 points, while LJ Holman added 10, and Dawson recorded another double/double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Great Crossing closes out the regular season with 2 games. They travel to Walton Verona and host Madison Southern. They will be looking to take an 18 game win streak into the postseason with a pair of wins. 2. Frederick Douglass (21-3) The Broncos saw their 16 game win streak come to an end, and suffered their first loss of 2025 in week 11, on the road at Henry Clay. It's had to move them down, however, given that they have beaten Bryan Station, who is ranked right behind them, 3 times so far this season. Henry Clay is a good basketball team, but I don't think most people saw their 83-72 upset of Freddy D coming. In the loss DeMarcus Surratt led the Broncos with 22 points. Juante Jenkins and Aveion Chenault joined him in double figures with 19 and 19 respectively. The loss didn't seem to stick with them, however, as the Broncos bounced back to get by Sayre 85-64 in their next game. Surratt again led the team in scoring with 24 points. However, this time 4 other Broncos joined him in double figures, which has been much more typical of the team so far this season. Douglass only has one game on the schedule this week. They travel to Tates Creek on Friday. 3. Bryan Station (21-5) The Defenders went 2-0 in week 11. Their first game was a 73-48 blowout of Scott County. Taeshawn Adams paced Station against the Cardinals with 20 points. Their second game of the week, however, was not a laugher. They faced the same Henry Clay team that had just taken down Frederick Douglass. For most of the game, it seemed like the Blue Devils would also push past the Defenders as they led by 16 points in the second half. The Defenders chipped away at that lead, and managed to escape with a one point win, as Rashaad Faulkner's third 3 pointer of the night gave them the lead for good with only 5 seconds remaining in the game. Faulkner's heroics were set up by Antowone Burton, who passed out of a triple team under the basket to find Faulkner on the wing for the winning basket. Faulkner finished with 13 points in the win, while Taeshawn Adams added 14, and Amari Owens led the team with 17 points. The Defenders have 2 games this week when they go on the road to Grant County, before closing the regular season with a home matchup with Woodford County. 4. Henry Clay (18-6) The Blue Devils split their 2 games against Bryan Station and Frederick Douglass, but probably had the most impressive week of any team in the region. Jackson Stephan led a balanced attack in the upset win over the Broncos with 26 points and 14 rebounds. He was joined in double figures by AJ Dixon with 18, Kayson Brown 16, and Hassan Bush with 12. In the heartbreaking 55-54 loss to Bryan Station, the Devils were led by Kayson Brown and AJ Dixon with 14 points each, while Stephan added 13. Barring issues with the weather, Henry Clay closes out the regular season with 4 games this week. They host Sayre and Boyle County while travelling across town to take on Lafayette and Paul Laurence Dunbar. 5. Lexington Catholic (18-9) The Knights break into the top 5 for the first time this season after a 2-0 week. The big win game against Madison Central, who had been ranked just ahead of them last week. The Knights went on the road and collected a double digit win over the Indians 53-41. Central was playing without Luke Asher and just didn't have enough to get by Catholic, who has now won 11 out of 12. Jacob Holland led the Knights in scoring with 16 points. In their other game last week the Knights were able to get by LCA 49-40. Max Meagher led the way with 16 points and 8 rebounds in the win. The Knights close out the regular season with a pair of games against 12th region contenders Danville Christian Academy and Lincoln County. DCA is at home, while Lincoln County is on the road. 6. Madison Central (18-9) The Indians were without Luke Asher, and his 16.4 points per game last week, and it showed as their offense struggled in a 1-2 week. Jake Feldhaus was the only player to score in double figures for Central in their 53-41 loss to Lexington Catholic. He was held well below his average however, with 13 points. Feldhaus did record 13 rebounds in the game to post another double/double. In the second game of the week, the Indians went on the road to Harrodsburg to take on 12th Region contender Mercer County. The offense struggled again in a 49-43 loss. Feldhaus again led the way with only 13 points, while Cam Steele added 10. In the Indians final game of the week they were able to take out some frustration on hapless Paul Laurence Dunbar in a 70-44 romp. Central closes out the regular season with a pair of tough games. They host South Laurel and travel to Covington Catholic. 7. Sayre (15-10) The Spartans faced two of the state's top teams last week in St. Xavier and Frederick Douglass. Against that type of competition, Sayre's 0-2 record was unsurprising. St. Xavier was simply too much for the Knight in an 83-59 blowout. Brock Coffman scored 18 points in the loss, while Jaxon Howard added 17 and Chase Parker 10. The Spartans didn't fare much better against Frederick Douglass as suffered an 85-64 setback to the Broncos. Coffman led the way with 19, while Howard added 16 points. The Spartans, who have now lost 4 of their last 5, will look to get back on track with 3 games this week. They travel to Henry Clay, host Christian Academy of Louisville, and close out on the road at Holmes. 8. Madison Southern (14-13) The Eagles went 2-1 in week 11. They began their week with an 83-73 win over a much improved Somerset Christian School. Casen Nobbe exploded for 42 points against the Cougars to lead Southern to the win. The next game was also a shootout. This time however, the Eagles came out on the short end of 101-85 track meet against South Oldham. Micah Whitaker was the leading scorer in the loss with 24, while Nobbe added 19, and Derek Helton 10. The Eagles, who might not have had their legs completely under them after the 2 high scoring affairs earlier in the week, struggled in a 56-53 road win at Rockcastle County. The Eagles close out the regular season with a home game against Lexington Christian followed by a road game at Great Crossing. 9. Frankfort (21-7) The Panthers picked up a pair of 11th Region wins in a 2-0 week. On Friday, Frankfort picked up a 57-51 win over crosstown rival Franklin County. That was followed with a 63-55 win against Model. No stats were posted in either win. Frankfort closes out the regular season with a road trip to Wolfe County followed by a home contest against LCA. 10. Tates Creek (12-13) The Commodores had a 2-1 week in week 11. They began the week with an 89-68 home win against Danville. In the win against the Admirals Brady Manning led a balanced attack with 21 points. They then dropped a 96-76 decision on the road at Walton Verona, before coming back home and defeating Grant County 70-58. The Commodores finish up the year with 3 home games this week: Lafayette, Paul Laurence Dunbar and Frederick Douglass. 11. Lexington Christian (12-14) LCA had a 1-2 week in week 11. The week started off on a positive note when the Eagles picked up a 77-61 home win against Lafayette. Saxton Howard poured in 28 points, and Andrew Maggard added 23 in the win. Colt Cummins contributed a double/double in the crosstown victory with 19 points and 10 boards. The offense really struggled the next night against Lexington Catholic in a 49-40 setback. The Eagles then had to take on a powerful Cooper team. They were not up to the task and were blown out 71-47. LCA has 4 games on the schedule for week 12: Pendleton County, at Madison Southern, Frankfort and at Western Hills. 12. Lafayette (11-15) The Generals went 1-2 last week. They were able to pick up a home win against Anderson County 68-57, but suffered road losses at Lexington Christian Academy 77-61, and North Laurel 86-33. Not stats were posted for any of the 3 games. Lafayette has one regular season game remaining. They host Henry Clay on Friday. 13. Model (14-12) The Patriots had a 2-1 week last week. They picked up a 55-46 region win over Berea. Travis Kidd led the team in scoring in the victory with 20 points. Riley Mollette added 12 and Marcello Zorzi joined them in double figures with 10. Travis Kidd stayed hot as he poured in 25 points in their next game, a 60-36 dismantling of Owsley County. The Patriots closed out the week with a 63-55 setback against Frankfort. Model finishes up their regular season with 3 games this week: Barbourville at home, then on the road at Estill County and Garrard County. 14. Franklin County (10-13) The Flyers dropped their only game last week 57-51 to crosstown rival Frankfort. The loss to the Panthers was the 4th in a row for Franklin County. David Chong was the only player to finish in double figures for the Flyers with 16 points. The final week of the regular season finds the Flyers stepping out of region for a pair of games. They travel to Rockcastle County and host Anderson County. 15. Berea (11-15) The Pirates had a 1-2 week in week 11. They sandwiched losses to Model (55-46) and Cumberland County (70-46) around a 62-37 win over a struggling Casey County team. Berea closes out their schedule with a pair of winnable games. On Tuesday they travel to Williamstown before coming back home to take on Paul Laurence Dunbar. 16. Western Hills (8-17) The Wolverines went 2-1 last week. They started out the week with an 88-77 win over Shelby County. Preston Clouse scored 23 points, and Cameron Flynn added 22 in the win over the Rockets. Western Hills was able to run their win streak to 3 games on Thursday with a 69-57 in over Paul Laurence Dunbar. The streak came to an end the next night, however, when the Wolverines lost a 79-71 overtime game to Bourbon County. Western Hills plays 3 games to finish out the regular season this week. They host George Rogers Clark, go on the road to East Jessamine, and close out at home against LCA. 17. Scott County (5-19) The Cardinals were blown out in their only game last week, 73-48 by Bryan Station. Scott County will try to snap their 7 game losing streak in week 12. They have a winnable game on Monday when they host Dunbar. They then close out the regular season on the road at George Rogers Clark. 18. Paul Laurence Dunbar (3-23) The Bulldogs lost both of their games last week. They suffered a 69-57 home loss to Western Hills, then were blown out on the road at Madison Central. Dunbar has 3 games remaining: Henry Clay, at Tates Creek, and at Berea.

Week 10 in the 11th Region didn’t have as many head to head matchups between the top teams as Week 9. But there were several big games, headlined by The Jock Sutherland Classic at Lafayette, that featured an excellent slate of games. We’re down to just 2 weeks of regular season games remaining before District Tournament time is upon us. A lot of the matchups going forward will have seeding implications for the postseason. Here is where we stand going into penultimate week of regular season games. 1. Great Crossing (22-4) The Warhawks ran their win streak to 14 in a row, and have yet to lose in 2025. They weren’t challenged in any of their 3 games last week, beating three 11th Region foes by a combined 123 points. The most impressive win of the three was a 90-58 rout of Henry Clay on the road. Vince Dawson drained eight 3 pointers in the win to lead the team in scoring with 30 points. Malachi Moreno added another double/double with 24 points and 14 rebounds. In the following game, Great Crossing placed 4 players in double figures in a 97-50 throttling of Franklin County. Moreno had another double/double with 22 and 11, while LJ Holman added 18, Gage Richardson 15 and Orem Brady 13. The Warhawks finished up the week on Saturday by blowing out crosstown rival Scott County 117-73. Great Crossing plays twice this week. On Tuesday they travel to George Rogers Clark before returning home to play South Laurel. GRC is ranked in at least 3 different ranking lists and probably presents the best chance to end the Warhawks win streak heading into the post season. 2. Frederick Douglass (20-2) The Broncos also went a perfect 3-0 last week, and are carrying a 16 game win streak of their own. Like Great Crossing, Freddy D has yet to lose in 2025. On Tuesday, the Broncos got by district foe Sayre, in a close one at home, 74-68. Jaunte Jenkins and DeMarcus Surratt paced the Broncos with 20 points each, while Aveion Chenault added 15. Their second game of the week was a 105-74 road win over Scott County in which 14 different Broncos got into the scorebook, and 5 finished with double figures. Douglass wrapped up their week with a 70-58 win over a good Harlan County team in the Jock Sutherland Classic at Lafayette. DeMarcus Surratt led the Broncos with 17 points. Tate Robinson added 15, while Aveion Chenault and Jaunte Jenkins rounded out the double figure scorers with 13 and 12 respectively. The Broncos have 2 games this week, both on the road. On Tuesday, they go across town to take on Henry Clay, and Friday will find them at Sayre. 3. Bryan Station (19-5) The Defenders had a pair of one point games in their 2 contests last week. For the second time in 10 days, they were pushed to the limit by Sayre, and like in the first game between the two, Station came out on top 43-42. The two games with the Spartans have been settled by a total of 5 points, with the first one going to overtime. On Saturday, the Defenders took part in the Jock Sutherland Classic at Lafayette, where they had to take on statewide top 10 Danville Christian Academy. An already difficult task was made even more difficult for Station, who had to play without leading scorer Amari Owens, who was out with the flu. Owens absence was definitely felt as the Crusaders were able to hold Bryan Station to 44 points in a 45-44 DCA win. Station will look to put that loss behind them on Tuesday when they travel to Scott County to take on the Cardinals, before returning home to play Henry Clay on Friday. 4. Henry Clay (17-5) The Blue Devils split their two games last week, as they were blown out by Great Crossing 90-58, before rebounding with an 85-75 win over Oldham County in the Jock Sutherland Classic. Kayson Brown led Henry Clay in scoring in both games. He scored 13 against the Warhawks, and poured in 21 points in the win over Oldham. The Blue Devils have a pair of tough games on tap this week as they host Frederick Douglass on Tuesday, before travelling to Bryan Station on Friday. 5. Madison Central (17-7) Madison Central also split a pair of games last week. On Tuesday they dropped a home game against North Laurel 75-57. Jake Feldhaus poured in 31 points for the Indians in the loss, while Luke Asher added 16. The Indians were able to rebound from the loss by taking down Collins 61-53 on Saturday. Feldhaus again led the team in scoring with 20 points, while Cody Morrison added 15 and Cam Steele chipped in with 10. Central has 3 games this week. On Tuesday they host surging Lexington Catholic, before going on the road to take on 12th Region contender Mercer County. The Indians week concludes with a Friday night visit from Paul Laurence Dunbar. 6. Lexington Catholic (16-9) The Knights saw their 7 game win streak broken last week in a 76-59 road loss to George Rogers Clark. Overall, however, they had a solid week with a 2-1 record that included a 47-46 win over Louisville Trinity. In the loss to GRC Hank Woodall led the team in scoring with 12, while Jacob Holland and Ryan Harward each added 11. Catholic didn’t have any time to dwell on the loss to GRC as they had to turn around and take on Scott County the next night. The short turnaround proved to not be an issue as the Knights were able to breeze by the Cardinals 81-53. The easy win over Scott County was followed by a visit from Louisville Trinity on Friday. Catholic was able to squeak by the Shamrocks in a nailbiter, 47-46 to win their 9th game in their last 10 tries. The Knights have two games this week. On Tuesday, they travel to Richmond to take on the team ranked just ahead of them, Madison Central, before returning home to face LCA on Friday. 7. Sayre (15-8) The Spartans went 1-2 last week, though the two losses were to the 2nd and 3rd ranked teams in the 11th, and both were single digit defeats. On Tuesday Sayre took Frederick Douglass to the wire before falling 74-68 on the road. In the loss, Brock Coffman led the team in scoring with 21 points, and also pulled down 14 rebounds, while Jaxson Howard added 19. Friday saw the Spartans square off with Bryan Station for the 2nd time in 10 days. This game, like the first, was competitive from start to finish. Unfortunately, as in the first meeting Sayre came up just short in a 43-42 loss. Saturday, saw the Spartans step out of the 11th Region to take on East Jessamine, who was overmatched in a 77-54 Sayre victory. The Spartans have 3 games in the coming week. They host North Laurel on Tuesday, travel to Anderson County on Wednesday, and return home for a rematch with Frederick Douglass on Friday. 8. Madison Southern (12-12) The Eagles won their only contest last week, 79-64 over Bluegrass United. Southern placed 4 players in double figures in the win, led by Casen Nobbe with 16. Jordan Dunaway added a double/double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Micah Whitaker added 13 points, and Tucker Nobbe scored 11. The Eagles have 4 games in the coming week. On Monday they host Somerset Christian School, before going on the road Tuesday to face Franklin County. Thursday finds them back at home against South Oldham, before travelling to Mt. Vernon to play Rockcastle County on Friday. 9. Frankfort (19-7) The Panthers split a pair of games last week. On Tuesday they picked up a 60-52 road win against Berea, before dropping a crosstown rivalry game against Western Hills on Friday 65-49. Zavian Knuckles scored 20 points for Frankfort in their win over Berea, while Kiyas White added 14. Frankfort has a pair of games this week. They are off until Friday when they host another rivalry game, this time against Franklin County. Then on Saturday they will make the trip to Richmond to take on Model. 10. Lafayette (10-13) The Generals had only one game last week, as they hosted Shelby County in the Jock Sutherland Classic. Lafayette was able to coast by the Rockets 82-58 to run their record to 7-3 since the calendar switched to 2025. The Generals have 3 games on the schedule this week. They host Anderson County on Monday, travel to LCA on Tuesday, and end the week on the road against North Laurel on Saturday. 11. Lexington Christian Academy (11-12) The Eagles picked up a pair of wins against 43rd District foes in their only 2 games last week. On Tuesday LCA was able to get by Tates Creek on the road 62-47 behind 27 points from Saxton Howard. Colt Cummins added 10 points and 12 rebounds in the win. On Friday the Eagles returned home where they drubbed a struggling Dunbar team 81-54. The Eagles have three games this week, as they look to push above .500 for the week. It won’t be easy, however, as those games are at home against surging Lafayette on Tuesday, at Lexington Catholic on Friday, and then back home to take on Cooper on Saturday. 12. Tates Creek (10-12) The Commodores split a pair of games last week. They started off the week in a big way, as they eclipsed the century mark in a 108-71 blowout of Western Hills. Tom Haubenreich drained ten shots from 3 point range, and finished with 36 points in the win. Brady Manning added 6 shots from behind the arc of his own to add 18 points, while Stephen Franklin joined them in double figures with 15. As a team, the Commodores were on fire from deep, as they finished with 20 treys in 41 attempts. They were unable to keep up that torrid pace from downtown the next night however, when they went 10-32 in a 62-47 home loss to LCA. Franklin led the way against the Eagles with 18 points in the loss. Tates Creek will step out of the 11th Region in all three games this week. On Monday, they will host Danville, from the 12th Region. Friday will find them on the road at Walton Verona from the 8th Region. They will return home on Saturday against another 8th Region opponent in Grant County. 13. Franklin County (10-12) The Flyers dropped both of their games last week to fall back below .500. On Tuesday they suffered a 58-50 setback on the road against Spencer County. Broderick Redden led Franklin County in scoring in the loss with 15. Tyler Broyles added 13, and Kaevin Russell joined them in double figures with 10. Thursday saw the Flyers matched up with the 11th Region’s number one team, Great Crossing, and they were simply overmatched in a 97-50 loss. Franklin County plays twice this week. On Tuesday they host Madison Southern, and on Friday they play at Frankfort. 14. Model (12-11) Model went 2-0 in week 9 to move above .500 for the season. On Tuesday they travelled to Robertson County and demolished the Black Devils 98-29. Four players finished in double figures for the Patriots, led by Riley Mollette with 29 points. Other double figure scorers included Harrison Parkhurst with 17, Marcello Zorzi with 15, and Travis Kidd with 12. On Thursday the Patriots were able to avenge a previous loss to Powell County 62-52. Parkhurst led the Patriots in scoring against Powell with 18 points. Kidd added 15, and Mollette added 13. Model has three games in the coming week. On Tuesday they make the short trip to Berea to take on the Pirates, before returning home to face Owsley County on Thursday, and Frankfort on Saturday. 15. Berea (10-13) The Pirates dropped both of their games last week. On Tuesday they lost at home to Frankfort 60-52. Finley Blevins led the team in scoring against the Panthers with 16 points, while Tommy Banderman added 14. On Saturday the Pirates travelled to Somerset to face Southwestern, and suffered a 77-63 setback. Jack Hemenway was the leading scorer against the Warriors with 22, while Blevins added 21. The Pirates have 3 games this week. They are at home on Tuesday and Friday against Model and Casey County, then travel to Clay County on Saturday to end the week. 16. Western Hills (6-16) Western Hills went 1-2 last week, but they did break their 8 game losing streak with a 65-49 win over Frankfort in a crosstown rivalry game on Friday night. Earlier in the week the Wolverines suffered a pair of home losses, 108-71 to Tates Creek, and 93-84 against Nicholas County. Seniors Elijah Thompson and Javeon Campbell led Western Hills in scoring against Tates Creek, with 18 and 16 points respectively. The same pair paced the team against Nicholas County. This time it was Campbell with 25 and Thompson with 16. The Wolverines will look to build off of their rivalry win over Frankfort with 3 contests this week. On Tuesday they play on the road against Paul Laurence Dunbar, before returning home to host Shelby County and Bourbon County later in the week. 17. Scott County (5-18) The Cardinals had a tough week last week, going 0-3 against some tough competition. On Wednesday they lost 81-53 on the road at Lexington Catholic, Friday brought a 105-74 loss to Frederick Douglass, and Saturday saw the Cards blown out by Great Crossing 117-73. If there was a bright spot for Scott County, it was the play of sophomore Colton Helton. Helton scored 21 points against Catholic, and added 25 against Frederick Douglass. The Cardinals have three games this week. They are at home against Bryan Station and Louisville Holy Cross, and they travel to Providence, IN to take on Providence High. 18. Paul Laurence Dunbar (3-21) The Bulldogs broke their 10 game losing streak on Tuesday with a 62-55 win over Trinity Christian. PLD was led in scoring by a pair of sophomores against Trinity Christian. In the win, Asher Horn scored 22 points, while Dominic Faulkner added 13. In their other games last week Dunbar dropped an 81-54 decision to LCA and suffered a 92-55 blowout to George Rogers Clark. The Bulldogs have two games this week. On Tuesday they host Western Hills, before going on the road to take on Madison Central.

Ole Miss had 24 assists, and ONE turnover. That's all that needs to be said about this one. You can't run a fast break drill with no defense and not have more turnovers than that.

They just need to quit playing on Saturday. They're 11-2 on any other day, but only 4-4 on Saturdays. Hopefully get they a Friday/Sunday schedule in the tournament.

Week 9 in the 11th Region had several matchups featuring the top teams going head to head: Madison Central-Henry Clay, Bryan-Station-Sayre, and the headliner Bryan Station-Frederick Douglass Round 3. In addition, there were a couple of big games with out of region teams as Great Crossing travelled to Covington Catholic, while Madison Central hosted Trinity. We’re down to 3 weeks until postseason play starts. Here’s where we stand going into Week 10. 1. Great Crossing (19-4) The Warhawks went 2-0 this week to run their win streak to 11 games. Their week opened with a 88-48 rout of Western Hills. Eleven different players scored in this one for Great Crossing. Vince Dawson led the way with 20 points. LJ Holman added 13, and was joined in double figures by Gage Richardson with 10 and Malachi Moreno with 12. Moreno also pulled down 12 rebounds to record another double/double. On Saturday the Warhawks travelled to Covington to take on state-ranked Covington Catholic. Great Crossing jumped out to a 9-0 lead and never trailed in this one, and came away with a nice 77-68 road victory. Moreno led the way for the Warhawks with 28 points and 16 rebounds, while Dawson added 24 points. This week finds Great Crossing with 3 games, all against 11th Region Teams. They will travel to Henry Clay and Franklin County, before hosting crosstown rival Scott County on Saturday. 2. Frederick Douglass (17-2) Frederick Douglass had a big week, going 2-0 against a pair of state-ranked opponents. The one that got the most attention was a 3rd matchup with Bryan Station, and with good reason. This one was a thriller, as Bryan Station held a 47-43 lead with under a minute to play, but a pair of clutch three pointers by Aveion Chenault and Tate Robinson propelled Douglass to the win. DeMarcus Surratt was the only Bronco in double figures, finishing with 24 points. After the big win over Station, Douglass had to travel to Woodford County the next day to take on DuPont Manual in the Ed Stepp Classic. There was no letdown for the Broncos, as they pulled out a 60-52 win. Freddy D has 3 games this week. They take on Sayre at home on Tuesday, and then go on the road to play Scott County on Friday. They then will face Harlan County on Saturday in the Jock Sutherland Classic at Lafayette. 3. Bryan Station (18-4) The Defenders went 1-1 last week. In additon to the narrow loss to Frederick Douglass, Station had another nailbiter, this time with Sayre. The Knights were able to push Bryan Station to overtime, but the Defenders were ultimately able to pull out a hard-fought 66-62 win. Three players finished in double figures in the win, led by Amari Owens with 19. Taeshawn Adams added 17 and Rashaad Faulkner finished with 10. With the margin decreasing in each matchup with Frederick Douglass so far, a potential matchup in the district finals could be a classic. That’s a little further down the road though. This week the Defenders will have two games. On Friday, they’ll go on the road for a rematch with Sayre, before taking on state ranked Danville Christian on Saturday in the Jock Sutherland Classic at Lafayette. 4. Henry Clay (16-4) Henry Clay went a perfect 3-0 in week 9. Included in those 3 games was a 68-60 overtime win over Madison Central that solidified their place in the regional rankings. Jackson Stephen poured in 26 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in the win, while Hassan Bush and AJ Dixon each scored 18, with Bush also pulling down 9 rebounds. In addition to their big win over Central, the Blue Devils picked up a couple of blowout victories, 82-52 over Scott County, and 78-47 agains Paul Laurence Dunbar. Henry Clay has 3 games this week. On Tuesday they will host regional number one Great Crossing, before going on the road to play Tates Creek on Friday. The Devils will also take part in the Jock Sutherland Classic at Lafayette on Saturday, where they are matched with Oldham County. 5. Madison Central (16-6) In spite of the overtime loss to Henry Clay, the Indian had a productive week, going 2-1. Included in that was a 71-66 home win against Trinity. Jake Feldhaus recorded another double/double in the win over the Shamrocks with 30 points and 12 rebounds. Luke Asher added 21 points for Central in the win. The same pair led the way for the Indians in their narrow loss to Henry Clay. In that one Felhaus went for 28 points and 19 rebounds, while Asher added 24 points. Feldhaus continued his scoring onslaught on Friday in a 61-48 bounceback win over Evangel Christian, when he poured in 32 points and snatched 8 rebounds. The Indians have two games this week, both at home. They will host North Laurel on Tuesday, and Collins on Saturday. 6. Sayre (14-6) The Knights split their two games last week. While they lost 66-62 in overtime to Bryan Station on Tuesday, it was through no fault of Jaxson Howard. The senior was one rebound short of a 20/20 night, as he finished with 21 points and 19 rebounds. Chase Parker added 14 points, while Brock Coffman scored 11 in the loss. In their other game, Sayre was able to bounce back from their loss to record a 71-45 blowout win over Scott County. The Knights have 3 games this week, and two of them are huge district matchups. On Tuesday they will go on the road to play Frederick Douglass, and will host Bryan Station on Friday. On Saturday, they will take on East Jessamine, out of the 12th Region on the road. 7. Lexington Catholic (13-8) The Knights went 2-0 in week 9 to run their winning streak to 6 games (they had a game with Paul Laurence Dunbar on the schedule for Sunday, but it had not been reported when this article was written). Catholic picked up a road win over Lafayette, 62-55, and a home win against Lexington Christian Academy 63-57. In the win over Lafayette Jacob Holland drained 6 three pointers on his way to 29 points. He was joined in double figures by Ryan Harward with 12 points, while Max Meagher added 10. The Knights placed 4 players in double figures in the win against LCA, led by Max Meagher with 19. Joining him in double digits was Hank Woodall with 13, Ryan Harward with 12, and Jacob Holland with 10. The Knights were able to pull out the win over the Eagles in spite of going just 2-19 from three point range. Catholic has 3 games on their slate this week. They travel to Winchester on Tuesday to take on George Rogers Clark, before returning home to play Scott County on Wednesay, and Trinity on Friday. 8. Franklin County (10-10) The Flyers scuffled a bit in week 9, as they went 1-2. On Tuesday, they dropped a close game on the road to Lexington Christian Academy 70-67. Tyler Broyles led Franklin County in scoring against the Eagles with 21 points on 7 three pointers. Broderick Redden added 17, and Andre Chenault joined them in double figures with 10. Redden added 14 rebounds to record a double/double. After the narrow loss to LCA, the Flyers returned home to play crosstown rival Western Hills. Franklin County bounced back in a big way in that one and thrashed the Wolverines 72-39. The next day the Flyers had to travel to Marion County where they took on Taylor County in the H&W/Dukes Sports Showcase. This time it was their turn to be on the short side of a blowout, as they were no match for the Cardinals in a 78-40 loss. The Flyers have two games this week when they will go on the road to play Spencer County on Tuesday before hosting Great Crossing on Thursday. 9. Frankfort (17-6) The Panthers snapped their 3 game losing streak in a big way in week 9, when they went a perfect 4-0. They began their week on Tuesday with a 62-52 win over Shelby County, before blowing out Frankfort Christian 78-36 on Thursday. On Friday Frankfort travelled to Hancock County where they took part in the Commonwealth Hancock County Shootout. They had no trouble there, defeating Francis Parker 56-39, and Louisville Collegiate 76-35. Frankfort plays 3 times this week. On Monday they host Bullitt Central, then go on the road Tuesday to play Berea. They wrap up the week with a crosstown matchup with Western Hills, where they will try and avenge a 57-51 loss to the Wolverines back on January 17th. 10. Madison Southern (11-11) The Eagles won both of their games that were reported in week 9. They had a game on the schedule in the Ed Stepp Classic at Woodford County on Saturday that has not been reported yet. On Tuesday they defeated Berea at home 49-42. Casen Nobbe scored 14 points in the win, while Jordan Dunaway added 13 points and 15 rebounds. Southern then travelled to Lancaster on Thursday where they played Garrard County, and came away with a nice road win in a 64-63 thriller. Cason Nobbe again led the team in scoring with 26 points to go along with 8 rebounds. Zach Adams added 12 points, all from 3 point range, and Jordan Dunaway joined them in double figures with 10 points, and added 8 rebounds. The Eagles have only one game this week. They will host Bluegrass United on Tuesday. 11. Tates Creek (9-11) Tates Creek had only one game last week. They picked up a road win at Paul Laurence Dunbar 85-59. Four Commodores finished in double figures in the blowout victory led by Stephen Franklin with 20. Tom Haubenreich added 19, while AJ Slaughter scored 13 and Josh Pinkleton rounded out the double digit scorers with 12. The Creekers have a busy week this week with 4 games on the schedule. They will visit Western Hills on Tuesday before returning home to take on LCA on Tuesday and Henry Clay on Friday. They close out the week at The Igloo at Bracken County where they will face Bath County in the Larry Smith Classic. 12. Lafayette (8-13) The Generals struggled in week 9, going 0-2 at home to run their losing streak to 3 games. They were competitive in both losses, however, but ultimately couldn’t pull out a win. On Tuesday they were beaten by Lexington Catholic 62-55, and on Saturday they dropped an 80-73 decision to West Jessamine. They did have a game on the schedule in the Ed Stepp Classic at Woodford County on Saturday that has not been posted. The Generals have one game this week. They will play Shelby County when they host the Jock Sutherland Classic on Saturday. 13. Berea (10-11) The Pirates had a 3-1 week in week 9. The week started off with a 49-42 loss to rival Madison Southern on the road on Tuesday. They were able to put that loss behind them however and picked up wins over Barbourville (81-71), Portland Christian (61-46), and West Carter (67-60). Berea will play three games this week. On Tuesday they will host Frankfort, before going on the road to play Leslie County on Friday, and returning home to play Southwestern on Saturday. 14. Lexington Christian Academy (9-12) The Eagles went 1-2 in week 9. They lost a close one on the road on Monday against Nicholas County, despite 31 points from Saxton Howard. That was followed by a 70-67 win at home against Franklin County. Howard again led the team in scoring, this time with 30 points. Eighth grader Chase Bentley added 17 points and Colt Cummins chipped in with 14 points in the win. The Eagles were not able to build off the momentum from the win over Franklin, however, and dropped their next one 63-57 at home to Lexington Catholic. Howard again led the team in scoring with 21 points. Bentley joined him in double figures with 13 points, and Andre Maggard added 10. LCA has two games on their slate this week. They go on the road on Tuesday to take on Tates Creek, then return home to play Dunbar on Friday. 15. Model (10-11) The Patriots went 2-1 last week. They picked up wins over Williamstown 67-44, and Bluegrass United 66-47 before losing to Lincoln County in a 52-50 heartbreaker. Model placed 4 players in double figures in both of their wins. Against Williamstown Riley Mollett scored 20, Travis Kidd added 19, Marcello Zorzi 13, and Harrison Parkhurst finished with 10. Mollett pulled down 13 rebounds to record a double/double. Against Bluegrass United with was the same quartet leading the way. This time Mollett and Kidd each scored 15, while Zorzi and Parkhurst each added 14. Mollett again posted a double/double when he finished with 10 boards. Model has 2 games this week. They will travel to Robertson County on Tuesday, and host Powell County on Saturday. 16. Scott County (5-15) The Cardinals continued to struggle in week 9, when they went 0-3. They began the week with an 82-52 loss at Henry Clay. That was followed by a 71-45 road loss to Sayre, and an 84-61 loss to Harlan County in the Gem City Classic at Pineville. Scott County has now lost 3 in a row, and 8 out of their last 9 games. They might find it difficult to get back on track this week, as all 3 of their games are tough ones. They travel to Lexington Catholic on Wednesday, then host Frederick Douglass on Friday, before heading across town to take on rival Great Crossing. 17. Western Hills (5-14) The Wolverines were blown out in both of their games last week, and have now lost six in a row. Great Crossing dominated them 88-48, as did archrival Franklin County 72-39. No stats were posted for either game. Western Hills will try to get back in the win column this week when they have a three home games. On Monday they play Tates Creek. Tuesday brings Nicholas County to town, before playing another rival in Frankfort on Friday. 18. Paul Laurence Dunbar (2-18) The Bulldogs struggles continued last week as they dropped all three of their games in blowout fashion. They suffered home losses to West Jessamine (66-44) and Tates Creek (85-59), and a road loss to Henry Clay 78-47. In the Tates Creek game, sophomore Asher Horn poured in 22 points. PLD has four games this week as they look to break their 9 game losing streak. They host Lexington Catholic and Trinity Christian, and play on the road at Lexington Christian and George Rogers Clark.

It was a busy week for most of the teams in the 11th last week. The headliner was Great Crossing squaring off with Male. Frederick Douglass had two matchups against regional top 5 teams when they hosted Madison Central and Henry Clay. And Saxton Howard had a game for the ages for Lexington Christian Academy. For the most part, the games were chalk this week, with the higher ranked teams winning. There seems to be a clear separation between the top three teams in the rankings and the rest of the region. Let’s take a look back at the week and see how the action affected the rankings. 1. Great Crossing (16-4) The Warhawks had only a single game last week, a matchup with state-ranked Male in the Dan Cummins Shootout at Scott County. Great Crossing was able to pull out a 60-58 win, but it wasn’t easy. Male led most of the game behind the hot three point shooting of Jayson Gasaway and freshman Jordan Mitchell, who combined for 36 points on 7-14 three point shooting. The Warhawks battled back, however, with a balanced attack that placed 4 players in double figures. Gage Richardson led the team in scoring, while Malachi Moreno and Vince Dawson scored 14 each, and LJ Holman added 12. Moreno sealed the win with an emphatic block of a Cornelius Barnett shot to end the game. Moreno had another impressive game as he pulled down 14 rebounds, and blocked 6 shots to go along with his 14 points. The Warhawks, who are now 12-1 against Kentucky competition, have 2 games this week. They will face Western Hills at home on Tuesday, and travel to Covington Catholic on Saturday, in what should be a good one. 2. Frederick Douglass (15-2) The Broncos went a perfect 3-0 last week, and really solidified their spot in the rankings with double digit victories over regions top 5 teams Henry Clay and Madison Central. They opened the week with a 66-54 home win over Henry Clay. Jaunte Jenkins and DeMarcus Surratt poured in 17 points each in the win. Logan Busson just missed double digits with 9 points, while grabbing 14 rebounds. On Friday, they hosted Madison Central. Douglass proved to be too much for the Indians and won 80-63 behind a huge game from Surratt, who ended up with 27 points. They rounded out the week by destroying a struggling Paul Laurence Dunbar team 91-35. The Broncos are off until Friday, but they have two big games once they get back in action. On Friday, they host regional number three Bryan Station, in what will be the 3rd matchup with the Defenders since December 30th. That game will be followed by another game with a state-ranked foe, when they will travel to Woodford County to take on DuPont Manual on Saturday. 3. Bryan Station (17-3) The Defenders also had a 3-0 week last week. On Tuesday they blew out Mercer County at home 74-50 behind 26 points from Amari Owens, and 18 from Taeshawn Adams. Station followed that up with a 75-home win over Madison Southern on Wednesday. Rashaad Faulkner led the Defenders in scoring in that one with 21 points, while Adams added 19, and Owens scored 15. They completed their week with their 3rd win in 4 nights on Friday in an 84-57 win over a struggling Scott County team. The Defenders have 2 games this week, both at home. On Tuesday they take on Sayre, before that huge matchup with Frederick Douglass on Friday. 4. Henry Clay (13-4) The Blue Devils split their two games last week. On Tuesday, they lost a road game to regional number two Frederick Douglass 66-54. That game was followed by a trip to Berea where Henry Clay was able to snap their two game losing streak with an easy 76-43 win over the Pirates. Sunday brought another easy win for the Devils as they raced by Lafayette 91-68 to break the Generals 5 game win streak. Henry Clay has four games on the schedule this week, all at home. The big one is a Thursday matchup with Madison Central that will decide who is the number 4 team in the rankings next week. In addition to the game with Central, the Devils host Scott County on Tuesday and Dunbar on Friday, before closing out a busy week with Sayre on Saturday. 5. Madison Central (14-5) The Indians went 2-1 last week. Their week began with a 45-42 road win over Lincoln County in a defensive struggle. Jake Feldhaus was the only Indian to reach double figures, as he finished with 14 points and 9 rebounds in the win. Thursday night proved to be a little bit easier for Central as they breezed past an overmatched Western Hills team, on the road, 90-68. Five players finished in double figures for Madison Central in this one, led again by Feldhaus who poured in 20 points while pulling down 10 rebounds. Joining him in double figures were Luke Asher with 15, Cam Steele with 13, while Will Richardson added 12 and Joe Powers scored 11. The next night the Indians went back on the road where they were handed an 80-63 defeat at the hands of powerhouse Frederick Douglass. Feldhaus had a great game against the Broncos with a game high 35 points and 12 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough for the Indians to pull off the upset. The Indians have 4 games on their slate for this week. In addition to their big road game at Henry Clay on Thursday, they travel to Rockcastle County on Monday and host a pair of Louisville teams. On Tuesday they take on Trinity before welcoming in Evangel Christian on Friday. 6. Sayre (13-5) The Spartans went 2-1 last week. On Monday, they travelled to Scott County and came away with a 77-58 win over the Cardinals. Jaxson Howard led the way in the win with 23 points and 13 rebounds in another double/double performance. Thursday found Sayre in Owensboro to take part in the All A Classic State Tournament. In the first round, the Spartans raced by Louisville Holy Cross 71-49. The win over Holy Cross featured a pair of double/doubles for Sayre. Howard had 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Brock Coffman ended up with 26 points and 14 boards. Chase Parker joined them in double figures with 16 points. In the quarterfinals the Spartans came up just short against a good Owensboro Catholic squad, playing in their hometown, 56-50. Howard and Coffman again both contributed double/doubles against the Aces. Howard finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds, while Coffman added 18 points and 11 boards. Sayre has three games this week, all against 11th Region foes. On Tuesday they travel to Bryan Station, before returning home to take on Scott County. They finish off the week on the road at Henry Clay on Saturday. 7. Lexington Catholic (11-8) The Knights went 3-0 last week to move back above .500 for the season, and run their winning streak to 4 games. On Monday, they hosted Evangel Christian, and came out on top 62-45. Three players finished in double figures for Catholic. Max Meagher led the team with 12 points, while Jacob Holland and Hank Woodall added 10 each. Thursday saw them blow out a reeling Tates Creek squad 80-52. In the win Ryan Harward sank 6 three point baskets to finish with 20 points. Jacob Holland drained 5 threes of his own to add 15 points. The Knights finished out the week by blowing out Johnson Central, in the Dan Cummins Shootout at Scott County, 70-42. Catholic has 3 games next week, all against 11th Region teams on the road. On Tuesday they travel to Lafayette to take on the resurgent Generals. Friday brings a matchup with Lexington Christian, before finishing up with a rate Sunday regular season game against Dunbar. 8. Franklin County (9-8) The Flyers went 2-1 last week, picking up a couple of rivalry wins before dropping one to Dixie Heights. On Wednesday Franklin County made the short trip across town to take on archrival Western Hills. They were able to come away with a hard-fought 55-49 win to move above .500 for the year. David Chong led the way for the Flyers with 16 points and 8 rebounds, while Kaevin Russell added 14 points, and Broderick Redden kicked in 13. Friday brought another rivalry game, this time at home against Frankfort. Franklin County secured bragging rights in round one against the two local teams with a 53-43 win over the Panthers. Russell and Chong tied for scoring honors against Frankfort with 14 points each, while Redden added 13 points and 12 rebounds. After the two wins against crosstown rivals, the Flyers ran out of gas against a tough Dixie Heights squad, and dropped a 70-42 decision to the Colonels. Franklin County has another 3 game week this seek. On Tuesday they travel to Lexington to take on Lexington Christian Academy. The weekend finds them in a rematch with Western Hills at home on Friday, and a trip to Lebanon where they will be matched up with Taylor County in the H&W/Dukes Sports Showcase at Marion County. 9. Frankfort (13-6) The Panthers dropped their only game of the week 53-43 to crosstown rival Franklin County. The loss was their third in a row, and fourth in the last 5 games. They will look to right the ship this week with four very winnable games. On Tuesday they host a 1-16 Shelby County squad. Thursday finds them at Frankfort Christian, a team that they defeated by 51 in their season opener. Then they travel to Hancock County where they will take part in the Commonwealth Hancock County Shootout. They will be matched up with Francis Parker on Friday night, and then Louisville Collegiate on Saturday. 10. Madison Southern (9-11) The Eagles had a 1-2 week in week 8. The week started off well on Tuesday with a 66-48 home win against Somerset. Casen Nobbe was unstoppable against the Briar Jumpers with 33 points and 7 rebounds, on 10-14 shooting from the field, and 10-11 from the line. He was joined in double figures by Micah Whitaker with 19 points. The next night Southern had to make the trip to Lexington to face regional number 3 Bryan Station. The Eagles stayed in the game with the Defenders, but ultimately came up short in a 75-66 loss. Casen Nobbe again led the team in scoring, this time with 30 points. He ended up going 0-5 on two point attempts, but made up for it by going 5-8 from three point range, and 5-6 from the free throw line. On Friday night, they hosted Bell County, but were just overmatched by the Bobcats in a 71-38 defeat. Nobbe did not play against Bell County and the Eagles struggled to score. No one scored in double figures for Southen, who finished 14-43 from the field. Madison Southern has three games in the coming week. On Tuesday they host Berea, before going ton the road Tuesday to take on the Golden Lions of Garrard County. On Saturday the will play Lafayette at Woodford County at 1230pm. It is unclear if Nobbe will be available this week. 11. Lafayette (8-11) The Generals had a 2-1 week. After an 0-6 start to the season Lafayette is now 8-5 over their last 13 games. Although they had their 5 game win streak snapped on Sunday against Henry Clay in a 91-68 loss, they still had a productive week. On Tuesday they blew out LCA at home 78-34 before getting by Paul Laurence Dunbar 65-61 on Friday. No stats have been posted for any of their 3 games so far. The Generals have 3 games this week. On Tuesday they are at home against Lexington Catholic, before hosting West Jessamine on Friday. On Saturday they will be matched up with Madison Southern in a game at Woodford County. 12. Tates Creek (8-11) The Commodores went 1-2 last week. On Tuesday they dropped a close at home to George Rogers Clark 51-46. Stephen Franklin posted a double/double in the loss with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Thursday saw Tates Creek lose their seventh game in a row in an 80-52 thrashing at the hands of Lexington Catholic. Franklin was again a bright spot for the Commodores as he poured in another 17 points and added 7 rebounds. The Creekers were finally able to break their skid, and win their first game of 2025, on Saturday in the Rocket Classic at Rockcastle County. There they defeated a pretty good Knox Central team 75-64. The Commodores only have one game this week. On Thursday they will go on the road to play Paul Laurence Dunbar. 13. Berea (7-10) The Pirates split their two games last week. On Friday they suffered a 76-43 blowout at the hands of Henry Clay, before bouncing back with a 76-41 win over Frankfort Christian. Berea has 3 games on the schedule this week. They will make the trip across town on Tuesday where they will take on crosstown rival Madison Southern. They then return home on Thursday against Barbourville before closing out the week with another home game, this time against Portland Christian. 14. Model (8-10) Model went 1-1 in week 8. On Friday night they picked up a 67-41 home win against Burgin. Riley Mollette led 4 Patriots in double figures with 29 points. He also pulled down 18 rebounds in the game. Marcello Zorzi added 10 points and 13 boards to join Mollette in posting a double/double. Joining them in double figures were Harrison Parkhurst with 12 points and Travis Kidd with 11. Saturday saw Model hit the road to take on Nicholas County where they dropped at 63-58 decision to the Blue Jackets. There are 3 games on the schedule this week for Model. They travel to Williamstown to take on the Demons on Tuesday before returning home to host Bluegrass United on Thursday and East Carter on Saturday. 15. Lexington Christian Academy (8-10) Lexington Christian Academy also went 1-1 in week 8. On Tuesday they went on the road to Lafayette where they were destroyed by the Generals 78-34. The Eagles were without their best player, Saxton Howard in the loss to Lafayette. They were able to break their 3 game losing streak on Thursday when they were able to get back in the win column with a 96-84 win at Meade County. Saxton Howard returned against the Green Wave, and may have turned in the game of the year in the 11th Region, if not the state. Howard poured in 53 points for LCA. He was able to produce those 53 points on only 28 field goal attempts. He finished the game 11-19 on 2 point attempts, 5-9 from behind the arc, and 16-20 from the line. Caleb Marshall and Chase Bentley added 16 each for the Eagles. LCA has 3 games this week. They travel to Nicholas County on Monday before returning home to take on Franklin County on Tuesday and Lexington Catholic on Friday. 16. Scott County (5-12) The Cardinals has a 1-2 week in week 8. On Monday they lost a home game to Sayre 77-58. No one was able to break the double figure barrier for Scott County, although 6 players scored at least 6 points. They were led by Phillip Grimes, Colton Helton, and Reed Rutledge with 8 points each. They then had to go on the road to take on a very tough Bryan Station squad, and they were no match for the Defenders in an 84-57 defeat. The Cards had a frigid night shooting the ball against Station, finishing 20-68 from the field for an icy 29.4%. Scott County was able to put the 2 rough outings behind them on Saturday, however, when they picked up a thrilling 75-73 overtime win over Bourbon County in their own Dan Cummins Shootout. Ben Glenn led a balanced Scott County attack with 17 points. Montae Washburn and Colton Helton added 15 each, and Phillip Grimes rounded out the double figure scorers for the Cards with 13. After the rough shooting game against Station, Scott County was on fire against Bourbon. They finished 29-52 overall and 9-21 from three point range. Scott County has three games on the schedule this week. They are on the road against Henry Clay and Sayre, before stepping out of the 11th Region to take on Harlan County in the Gem City Classic at Pineville on Saturday. 17. Western Hills (5-12) It was simply a lost week for the Wolverines, as they dropped all 4 games that they played. They have now lost 7 of their last 8. On Monday they were beaten at home by Bluegrass United 73-65. Javeon Campbell paced the Wolverines against BU with 18 points and 6 rebounds. Elijah Thompson added 15 in the loss. That loss was followed by a close loss to crosstown rival Franklin County 55-49 at home. Still reeling from those 2 losses the Wolverines were blown out at home by Madison Central 90-68, before going on the road on Saturday at Ryle. They were unable to get past the Raiders in an 81-65 defeat to complete the winless week. Things don’t get any easier this week when they will hit the road for 2 games. Tuesday they have the unenviable task of breaking their losing streak against Great Crossing before getting a rematch with Franklin County on Friday. 18. Paul Laurence Dunbar (2-15) The Bulldogs continued to struggle in week 8, when they went 0-3, all on the road, to run their losing streak to 6 games. On Tuesday they were blown out by Woodford County 77-45. Friday they dropped a close one to Lafayette 65-51 before being embarrassed in a 91-35 blowout against Frederick Douglass. PLD will try to get back on track this week with a four game schedule. Tuesday they are at home against West Jessamine, and will then host Tates Creek on Thursday. The Bulldogs will then go on the road to take on the Henry Clay Blue Devils on Friday before returning home against Lexington Catholic on Sunday.
