  1. It was the old field at Campbell County Middle School, once CCHS, as Brossart does not yet have a field of their own. What was more strange is that it took them so long to change the venue. For some strange reason, no one, not either Athletic Directors, game manager or site manager, principals or anyone could get a signal on their cell phone to call anyone about the issue! After trying for nearly half an hour after the game was slated to start, Brossart administration finally agree to travel down to PC to play the game. Craziest thing I have ever been a part of. BB fans all packed up, including the concessions stand and acted like it was just another home game on a field that they didn't own! It was great! ps:can't wait for their new field!
  2. We bought a set of home jerseys this year. There was nothing wrong with the old home jerseys, just the manufacturer. You see, the style of jersey that we had from NIKE was discontinued. So we have a lot of nice jerseys we can't wear now. To reorder the correct #'s to replace and add jerseys, we had to get a different style jersey in white for our away's but the home jerseys looked nothing like our old uniforms. Our hand was forced, we had to order a new style of jersey. Due to this inconvenience, we switch back to Russell brand jersey. The numbers are sewn on and look great! Hopefully next year we can do some fundraising and replace our white away jerseys to match the style of the new Russell's. We also let our seniors put their 2 cents in when we were designing the jerseys, despite the fact that it would have made more sense to ask the incoming freshman that would get the most (4 years) use out of them!
  3. Hope he gets to play, hate for a kid like that to miss snaps on Fridays.
  4. How is Lane Rogers? Kid took a big hit in the estill game. I know he is tough but the radio station said he was being looked at by medical staff. The Wildcats went with the back up and had success. If he is good to go, does it affect Bath co chances? If he is out, does it effect Pendleton co chances?
  5. I hate that for a young man. He is a very good athlete and very good football player. I agree that Fleming had my eye, now we must wait and see if there are any other weapons for fleming, and if they are enough to earn them a top spot. I believe Greenup will be a challenge for them.
  6. Does anyone else find this ironic? The Hurricane game rescheduled due to a hurricane...
  7. This game has been changed from Friday night to Thursday night at 7pm. This is due to the amount of rain Bracken county is supposed to get I assume. Look for an official message soon from Bracken and pendleton Athletic directors. Look at the list of game changes at the top of the forum. Week 2 Game Date Changes (Hurricane Harvey)
  8. Thanks! I'll check it out. Don't know if I can swing texas with my amazing strength coach salary. Ha!
  9. I agree with you. Heard Joe Kenn speak at the Hammer clinic in cincy this summer. Very knowledgeable and intense dude. Woke me up as it pertains to our S&C program.
  10. Pretty decent. They moved the student section to the end of the field behind the home end zone, opening up a lot of space for spectators. PC scored the shut-the-door TD running right at the kids and they went nuts. A real positive vibe in PC this year, something different than years past.
  11. Shorten the game. That's the reason people call it a mercy rule. I have been involved in many games where the running clock has been placed on us; fewer where we put a running clock on others. It seems the best for both teams to prevent injuries and ejections from stupid penalties made out of frustration.
  12. By the look of their scrimmage against West Carter, I would say Lewis' only weapon is the wide receiver #18. Dangerous speed and ability to get open. If you can put a lockdown corner on him or bracket him, Lewis will struggle to put points up. Greenup will be in control of this game
  13. But you can only play 11 at a time... I think Douglass hangs in there and makes it a close game, even if they can't beat Danville. They will take their licks early and get better as they grow. I believe Coach Landis will have them competing with everyone they play right out of the gate.
  14. Only head coaches get extended days in my district
  15. Wait, assistant coaches get extended days?! :ohbrother:
  16. I'd say loud cell phone talkers. I'm going to put special emphasis on those that put people on speaker phone and scream at them. I really don't want to be privy to your conversations about what your man did or did not do for you last night... I'm going to also lump in those that play music very loudly over the speaker and act like they are the only ones that can hear it. buy some earbuds...
  17. Haha. I don't know about the quotes. It is implied that you be there at as much as possible in order for us all to get better. With that being said, we work with other sports to avoid burnout in those kids doing multiple sports in June. There is no punishment for missing because attendance is not taken. We encourage our kids and parents to schedule vacations before dead period. Everything installed during this time is repeated in July, so no one misses any instruction. As coaches, we have a duty to make sure our athletes are in condition to practice in the heat and compete at the appropriate level. There is special emphasis on this post-dead period. IMO, if we were to do nothing football related mid-May to July 10, I would be in violation of my duty to my kids.
  18. Our team would be a lot bigger and have a lot better fan base if we had parents that "made" their kids play football. We have a hand full of kids that come out each year and quit shortly afterwards because their parents cannot (or will not) make the commitment to get the kid to and from practice. I don't know if they are just misinformed or not willing to have their child at an extracurricular function 3-5 days a week in the summer. Half our kids parents don't come to the games until they are starting, instead of coming to support their child's team. I guess it is just a difference in demographics.
  19. Obviously nothing is mandatory in June. I open up the weight room Monday through Saturday from 7am-11am for all athletes in the school. I set up for three lifts per week that should be done within a half hour easily. The kids come in on their own time, I have to kick some out. As far as football practice goes, we go MTWR.
  20. Not that I would ever have a say in where the games would be played, but I think it would be really cool to have them played at rotating venues as long as the schedule could be guaranteed ahead of time and it could accommodate the crowds these games draw. UofL one year, UK the next, WKU, EKU Murray or morehead. And it would be cool if my alma mater Georgetown could squeeze them all in.
  21. I don't know if it would solve problems. We go all summer not to wear the kids out but to give the kids something to look forward to. If your teenager was at home for 2 months and never left the house, you would be pretty angry with him. He would sleep until noon, play video games, mow the grass when you yelled at him and lose strength and stamina every day he did this. Maybe he works all summer and decides the little money in his pocket is cooler than the one time awesome experience of HS football. Maybe instead of being dedicated to the fact he will have practice the next day where people are waiting for him and counting on him, he will succumb to the temptation of ill choices like drugs or alcohol simply because he has so much extra time on his hands. Not saying this is every kid nor anyone's kid in particular. I coach HS football all summer, and give up that time as well, for the kids that fall into these categories. That way they can spend time outside, with old friends and new ones, without a phone in their hand, and do something physically demanding and fun. You're welcome for the free child care **Addendum: may not be the case with everyone but our numbers would be worse if we didnt practice all summer until august than if we went 2-a-days every day from june to august. out of site, out of mind thx!
  22. When your freshman class is between 10-15 players, it is hard to put together a squad that has a kid in each position unless you play him out of position. We don't have a freshman team, nor will we in the near future, because we want our kids playing confident in their position, not over thinking a position they have never played (or putting themselves in a position to get hurt). Our freshman play jv (mostly freshman and sophomores) when they are able to protect themselves at that level of competition; some even excel. Its great for us to identify those really young kids who are ready for varsity. I don't see how without a class of 20-25 freshman, subscribing to the way we do things, that you would be able to have a freshman team. So that would limit it to larger schools only and make it harder to schedule freshman only games.
  23. The KHSAA, unlike many other states' athletic associations, allows for the participation in spring football and a scrimmage if you deem it appropriate. Many schools use this opportunity that we are fortunate enough to have. Some use this opportunity as a way to preview next seasons team or host a spring game as a fundraiser. At the close of our spring practice, as I begin to evaluate what we did and did not accomplish, I question, "Was our spring ball a success?" A little background: Our squad is about 44 guys annually, 10-12 in each class. Spring ball is only current grades 9-11, so we only have a maximum of around 30-36 kids that could participate. Due to spring sports and those usual turds that think they can skip out on off-season workouts, we only get 2/3 of our kids on a given day. We gave out 31 sets of pads this spring, but had attendance that ranged 25 on the high end and 17(!) on the low end. Not to mention the kids we lose to spring sports are usually our athletes and not our big guys. A spring game is out of the question for us. We will have to repeat everything we installed at the same pace if not slower for the rookies. We only got 8/10 practices in due to weather. Still, it was successful because we got to run around with pads on and the ones that were there every day got better every day. It was also easy to see what we needed work on and what would work itself out with reps. How was yours? Do you do spring ball? Do you use this time differently if you are a small school? Big School? What are your alternatives? Thanks!
  24. I'm a little biased, being a tiger myself, but having coached this very camp as a player/coach for 4 summers, I can tell you that this camp is worth every dollar. The kids get quality coaching directly from the gtown staff, gtown players and additional coaches. We did the same drills in this camp as we did in practice, albeit a little slower paced. Having coached this camp for 4 years, I can tell you that the kids that stood out in the camp somehow became familiar faces a year or two later... Plus your kid is gone for a whole week, you need a vacation. LOL. Camp is usually mid june
