  1. If you mean all that seniors that were selected to the team; then Jalen Johnson would be the only one that didn't play. If you mean did the top seniors in the state play then there is a long list that didn't participate. it's unfortunate that we aren't putting our best on the floor to play against Indiana's best.
  2. Had my first look of Johnson last night....wow. Kid is special.
  3. While I have absolutely no issue with Zion going to school wherever he chooses; this whole odyssey seems kinda weird. There is no obvious rhyme or reason to any of his moves. Just seems odd
  4. Congrats to him, his family and the coaching staff. He worked his tail off for this. His AAU coach said it best; this is what happens when you put great talent with a good AAU program that is all about the kids. M.A.T.T.S Mustangs will benefit from this as well.
  5. I understand that point as well; but Dontaie is 6'6 maybe 6'7, and in the state of Kentucky that typically means "go to the post and play big man". He is in the perfect system in the sense that it appears (from the outside looking in) that the coach has allowed him to grow into that perimeter player at his height that a lot of colleges look for. Winning is good, but playing in a system that fits your skill set and allows you to groom and hone that skill set is much better for next level and recruiting.....IMO
  6. I think Harmon led the state in scoring, but your point is well taken. You hit the nail on the head with the second point though.....he is in a system that fits him perfectly.
  7. Wow....do you know if he's injured or just personal reasons
  8. It appears that Adam Kunkel has declined to play in the Kentucky/Indiana all-star game. Really weakens the team if this one is true.
  9. The dynamics of Fort Knox makes this job as well as any coaching job on Fort Knox almost impossible to succeed.
  10. Good luck Dontaie.....I think it's just the beginning for the young man.
  11. I think he'll be ok....he's got that something, you know it when you see it. He's been playing on the top level AAU circuit EYBL since I think 7th or 8th grade. Those are the types of people he would be playing college ball against. I do agree with another poster though; his defense is average right now at best.
  12. Zion is a special player....you can see it immediately if you've watched him play....he's worth the price of admission
  13. Kunk has enormous basketball abilities....but IMO what makes that kid special is he is a competitor. Any stage, any time of the day, anybody,.....pack a lunch, it's gonna be a long day.
  14. Basketball is religion in Indiana.
  15. The Courier Journal reported that CJ couldn't work out the dates with Iowa so he had to turn down the offer. Coach Chalk stated that he knew about this before tryouts more less.
  16. I appreciate you sharing this; I don't think the kids that didn't show up meant any harm or disrespect to the state. My favorite player wanted no parts of this tryout, for no other reason other than that he was exhausted with basketball. His body was sore and he just basically went through the motions (2-two hour practice sessions and a game). I understood the honor he was presented by being selected to tryout, so I made him go. He didn't totally grasp the significance of the selection so I made the decision for him. Other kids may not have that type of person in their life. He will thank me later when it's time to play the game because I know he wants to represent his state in the game.
  17. Yeah, I don't like how this looks. I was watching the Jordan Classic game this year and one of the comments made was that this class as a whole is not very tough or competitive (they were responding to questions about about Cam Reddish and Zion Williamson). The word entitled was thrown around a lot. I don't know the real reasons for some of the kids not attending, maybe they all have legitimate reasons as to why they couldn't show up. It's just disappointing and it makes this team a lot weaker. This one might get ugly.
  18. Yeah, by no means am I making excuses for the kids, but the talk coming out of the KY/OH game was they were beat up...alot of knee issues and sore backs from a few of them. The practices at the KY/OH weekend were brutal and long. I suggested to my favorite player sore knees and all that he go to the tryouts, and he participated ....sometimes you gotta do things you might not wanna do. Tidbits......Trevon and Wales didn't participate in the first session and Cooper Robb injured his ankle in the morning session and didn t return
  19. This is a long answer to why some didn't show up, but not an excuse. I personally don't think there should have been a try out. But alot of these kids are exhausted and beat up from the season. They play alot of minutes on their respective high school teams. The KY/OH weekend was grueling. They practiced alot. Alot of them left there banged up. Mentally and physically they just need a break and this tryout was just at a bad time for those kids. Again not an excuse just some insight
  20. I've never seen the young man play but have heard great things about him. Is he good enough to compete on that national stage? What position does he play? Also I'm wondering if this means that Johnson might be on his way somewhere else.
  21. Wow, I just saw that. Good luck to Justin on his transfer
  22. Congrats Baby J....good kid from a good family....love it when it works out this way.
