You’d have to ask Ballard. After Trinity came from behind a few years ago and beat them in the regional they wouldn’t agree to play them again.

Perhaps that’s the reason Ballard refuses to play Trinity during the regular season.

Actually in the wake of concussion awareness MANY football programs are now teaching rugby tackling techniques.

Hopefully all of the “big 3” will continue to play each other. We know Trinity and X will. Hopefully Male will agree to play both.

Muhlenberg County would have been in 6A had Barren County not requested to play up.

At first glance regarding 6A only. Likes: The "Big 3" are all in different districts. Male and Manual are in different districts so they can resume playing their rivalry game the last game of the year if they choose to. Dislikes Trinity is in a 3 team district. They have enough trouble getting games as it is, this adds 2 more they now have to come up with. From a geographical standpoint Oldham County would have been a better fit in Trinity's district.

Who's the boss the AD or the coach? Maybe, just maybe it would be better for the overall program and that's what the AD was thinking. I still contend that 8 days in pads in March or April does not translate into results in September. Every football coach in Kentucky has all of June and July with the exception of the dead period to teach fundamentals. And I'm far from "just a casual observer" of high school football. Where's the consistency in football rules. During the regular season everyone has to go through an acclimation period before they are allowed to put on full pads, and no it's not because of heat as a kid coming back from an injury or being ruled eligible late in the season has to go through it. Yet the current spring rules allow full contact after 2 days and as someone pointed out earlier some of the kids that come out in the spring have never played before.

Outstanding suggestion.

Compared to neighboring states Kentucky gets more on field time then anyone. If 10 practice days in march or April make or break your season you have problems.

What surprises you?

The final game of my senior season in high school was a playoff loss to Bishop David played at the Fairgrounds. I don’t think they had their own field as it seems to me I remember the 1st game played at Holy Cross. Not sure where they played home games?

It sits on the same footprint but it's not the same stadium. When Durrett High School closed the bleachers were moved to Southern and the light standards taken down. The school building spent several years as an office building. When Male relocated there a brand new stadium was built. Thanks for reminding me, I also attended multiple games at Maxwell Field which was behind the old Male HS in downtown Louisville.

I've been to a game at every HS football field in Jefferson County (including a few that no longer exist Stuart, Thomas Jefferson and Durrett) except the new DeSales stadium. Also PJCS and the Old Cardinal Stadium. Taylor County really slowed the ball down offensively just didn’t convert many of the opportunities they had. Trinity played reserves a lot in the second half.

I think the games will definitely be more interesting and more competitive. I said before I think it's a good hire, and I'm kind of surprised that X went outside their house for the hire.

You're the one that wanted to gauge X's future successes against Trinity on Coach Wallace's "success" against them. Just offering perspective. And in the '10 game Trinity's started their regular QB who was ill and was unable to play through it, though he tried valiantly. Trinity's #2 was at home also ill, so when #1 came out #3 went in and played the rest of the game, getting the win.

Based on? The "powerful" T offense you speak of in '09 was not good by Trinity standards, they even lost to X twice. In '10 BG lost to Trinity at home with T's 3rd string QB playing 3/4 of the game. The other 2 games in the series weren't as close. I think Wallace is a good hire for X but let's not pretend he's the next Lombardi.

I know. They will never acknowledge that any school in the state can accept and play a player from outside their district, county or state if they choose to and if they don’t it’s a self imposed limitation and has NOTHING to do with KHSAA rules that all schools, public and private, follow. I would tell them that if the playing field is truly “unlevel” as they like to say, it’s because they have added weight to their side on their own.

You’re still not answering the question. Who makes the rule that out of district kids can’t play army your school?

I think the philosophy at both places is that the local talent should want to play at the local schools so they concentrate their efforts elsewhere. There are still lots of kids who could get schollys at smaller schools that are perfectly content to walk-on at th school they’ve cheered for all their lives.
