Your long-winded pontification confirms everything I said. So what's the issue? Volleyball in the state of Kentucky has become a one-city trick - Louisville. The rest of the state, especially the schools in the mountains, are decades behind. The state tournament is a disaster because everyone knows the champion is going to be one of two teams - the Louisville schools. What is it? 20 straight years the champ is from Louisville? The only solution I see is having the two Louisville regions play their own "state" championship, and letting the rest of the state have their own championship tournament. Because we all know in the 21st century everyone deserves a trophy, even if they don't earn it.

NKU will be drawing about 900 fans per game in the near future. No one cares about small-time D-1 in an area like this. They had a niche in D-2, like Thomas More does in D-3. Sad for NKU the TMC women drew more fan support this past season in many cases than NKU's men. TMC also got 1,000 times more pub than NKU because of their women's national championship run. Marketing and promoting small-time D-1 in this area is a no-win. To make matters worse, NKU's administration has alienated the community with its antics like the unfair dismissal of Coach Bezold and the dance team scandal they tried to cover up. Too late to go back to D-2? Or maybe D-3? It's working for TMC.

You have no opinion, but you think they are better? Little contradiction there? NKU's attendance is laughable for an arena like BB&T Mausoleum, that was my point. They would be better served playing in Regents Hall for their 90-1,000 fans that show up.

NKU is responsible for its own marketing, PR, promotions, ticketing, and everything else, not SMG. The lack of support and miserable attendance is on NKU, its AD, its marketing and PR people, and everyone else employed by NKU, not SMG. The leadership of NKU is lagging, and the effort is being reflected by subpar performance everywhere on the campus including their sports. My point was they would have an advantage with 1,000 people in Regents Hall instead of 1,000 in the BB&T Mausoleum.

Holy Cross will get blown off the field by NewCath. I'm a Holmes guy and admit Holy Cross has passed us up in football for now, but NewCath is still on another level from them.

OK. I don't recall it, but you might be right. It was held in Freedom Hall many moons ago, but that ship has long since sailed.

The volleyball state tournament in Kentucky will soon go the way of slow-pitch softball. With only a handful of schools that take the sport seriously, it's a non-event. The two Louisville regions and Notre Dame/St. Henry are the only programs worth watching at the state. Many of the regions send teams to the state so far out of touch with modern volleyball it's painful to see them on the same court as said programs.

I think you better read the title of this thread closer because the all-star game was played at Bellarmine this year. I don't even recall it being held in Lexington for many years. It's even been in small towns like Owensboro a time or two.

I think NKU played there a few times in the 1970s and early 80s. Instead of the Gardens, the current NKU basketball program needs to move their games back to Regents Hall so they have a home court advantage. The BB&T Arena is just a giant mausoleum with so few fans and no enthusiasm. Of course, the people running NKU have no idea what they are doing when it comes to attendance, marketing, PR, promotions, community involvement.

The only championship volleyball played in Kentucky is in Louisville. Three or four schools at the most have a chance at winning the state, all in that city. The rest of Kentucky is really behind in the sport of volleyball. The state tournament has become pointless as everyone already knows who the state champion will be - a Louisville school. The volleyball played in several regions is really not good.

Good addition for the Mount, tough recruiting loss for Thomas More. The Mount seems to be picking up a lot of good area recruits, Bezold is another.

That sounds correct. Spud Byrd was one of the best tailbacks I ever saw. Bowling Green also had a really good QB that game in 1976 against Boone County in the Recreation Bowl, but Byrd put on a show. Bowling Green beat a very good Boone County team that night in Mt. Sterling. Does anyone know if Spud played in college? I have searched online and found nothing.

I watched Bezold hurt my Holmes Bulldogs for three years and he will help Mt St. Joe's. Sounds like a DIII program he can help right way and go to the NCAA tournament for four years. Too bad the WVU situation did not work out for him. He should be a double digit scorer for the Mount, would not surprise me if he is all conference for the Lions.

I am now told a Mount St. Joe's assistant confirmed Tyler Bezold will play at the Mount. Good choice for the young man.

No, Spud Byrd played many years before Driver at Male. I don't think Bowling Green played Male during Byrd's career. I think Henderson County eliminated Bowling Green in the playoffs Spud's senior year in 1976.

I see. I don't know if Google would help you find out a whole lot about Spud Byrd, but he was really good. Some of the Bowling Green old-timers can chime in on his accomplishments.

Which school is it, Thomas More or Mt. St. Joe? Has he made his decision on which? The Holmes coach I spoke with earlier said it was one of the two but wasn't absolutely sure which.
