rgoodman2016 Posted July 19, 2016 Posted July 19, 2016 hi everyone. Question for Bluegrass Basketball fans: What do you think about the Indiana/Kentucky All Star Basketball games? Should they keep playing? Play in smaller places? In Indiana : How about Southport's Fieldhouse it sits close to over 8,000 people? How about a large high school gym in Kentucky? Im new to this so I dont know who has the big gyms? I get a feeling not many people attend them anymore? Is this a correct statement? Just wondered what you all think? Let me know. Have a great day. Roy:wave:
PurplePride92 Posted July 19, 2016 Posted July 19, 2016 I wish the games were more competitive and had better attendance in KY. I am guilty of not being more supportive of this All Star game. They should definitely kelp playing it and I think they should be played in arenas that give the game a great atmosphere. Maybe rotate the location in KY every year to different high school gyms instead of on college campuses. Not many people attend but IMO the advertising for this game is subpar. A whole lot more can be done to promote this game. IMO a large part of the decline in attendance is the promotion and advertising of the game.
maysvilleky Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 Ky might try playing it near the home of the KY Mr. Basketball and promote the heck out of it that way. I think attendance in IN is still good but KY has been very poor. Not being competitive has been KY's biggest hindrance. Until KY can win a few games, I'm afraid it will continue to be a one sided event.
Smallhoops Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 I have been going to this game on and off for about 40 years and have gone back and forth on my thoughts about its future. For a lot of reasons, it certainly is not what it used to be. The most recent challenge comes from players expected to report to college earlier and earlier, which has removed several players from the game the past couple years. If the test is whether it is as good, or as exciting, or as well-attended, as it used to be, then it should not continue. But then there are days like today when I focus not on comparing it to what it used to be, but focus on what it currently is. I went to the game this year at Bellarmine, and there were missing players, poor attendance, and Indiana won once again. But for a relatively low price, I had the opportunity to spend a summer day watching some pretty good high school basketball. I got to see some players I had not previously seen. Kentucky made a great comeback but came up a little short. I enjoyed it. So it is what it is. Its not what it used to be, but what it is currently is enough for me. If they continue having it, I will continue to try to go.
sweet16 Posted July 21, 2016 Posted July 21, 2016 Move it around the state. Having it in Lexington every year is not working.

I think you better read the title of this thread closer because the all-star game was played at Bellarmine this year. I don't even recall it being held in Lexington for many years. It's even been in small towns like Owensboro a time or two.

Thor of Asgard Posted July 21, 2016 Posted July 21, 2016 i think its been at transy They could still move it around. OK. I don't recall it, but you might be right. It was held in Freedom Hall many moons ago, but that ship has long since sailed.
sweet16 Posted July 21, 2016 Posted July 21, 2016 OK. I don't recall it, but you might be right. It was held in Freedom Hall many moons ago, but that ship has long since sailed. Something needs to be done. People In Louisville and Lexington are not going
ky playmaker Posted July 21, 2016 Posted July 21, 2016 I really enjoyed the game this year. I hope they figure out how to fix it. It would be a shame for it to end.
