Okay so clarify the rule for us.

Sacred Heart is among top 4-5 teams in the state in my opinion so Campbell County obviously very good! Sounds like a great game!

Well that is debatable! I blame Obama on most of it, really! :-)

I was being extreme in the fact that I will teach them to juggle the ball down the floor. Obviously, that was said tongue in cheek. And I agree that most of the time, the refs will call that a travel as they should have in our game the other night since the girl had control of the ball.

You haven't seen some of my 5th graders "dribble." :-)

The "over and back" rule is one that people constantly don't understand. Both feet AND the ball must be established across the line. I see people screaming incorrectly (and referees calling it incorrectly) about this one all the time.

Well, I am going to start teaching it I suppose to my girls, who are in 5th-6th grade and don't care for dribbling much anyway! Just juggle the ball between your hands while running as fast as you can down floor and then shoot and score. All this time, I have been telling them that they have to be dribbling but apparently when just juggling it between hands, they are fine. I do skills work before practice that includes passing the ball quickly between your hands that are placed about a foot apart. Now they will know why we do that drill. Good stuff.

So I can have a girl just juggle the ball down the floor and all good?

That's interesting and certainly not a rule that would be interpreted by the normal basketball fan that way. Good to know, though.

Yes, she had original possession of it and started dribbling down the floor. One of our girls ran by her but never touched the ball, but it disrupted her dribbling and momentum and so she was looking to pass forward and simply started bobbling/juggling it for about 30 feet while taking probably 5-6 steps. It was bizarre and absolutely not the correct call.

So I can tell my player to bobble the ball down the floor while not dribbling??? If that interpretation of the rule is utilized my daughter may score 40-50 points a game off simply being faster than everyone else and batting/juggling the ball down the floor. In our game, the girl literally went from the opposite foul line to about 10 feet across midcourt and the ref said "juggling the ball so no walk." No one was deflecting the ball or anything. It was bizarre and clearly a walk under normal interpretations of the rules.

That call is a joke as is the call that we received yesterday that a girl wasn't walking because she was juggling the ball down the court. She literally went 25-30 feet without dribbling and the official said "she's juggling the ball" with that upward motion with both of his hands. It was bizarre!

Thanks, keep us posted. Mercy is just extremely well coached and they all buy into that system. I would expect Sacred Heart to ultimately win this one by around 10-15 but who knows.

I wasn't saying anything derogatory about the kid. Maybe, she'll have a quick impact at NKU also. I wish her the best.

I watched her and SK play Sacred Heart in LIT and she was a delight to watch. I think NKU would be a great fit, but am surprised she hasn't thought more about Division 2, like Bellarmine, Ashland University, UIndy and others where she would have a quick impact. Best of luck to her regardless.

Agree with this. Even with the Butler loss to Male early in season, I still think Butler is the best in the state.

Who is starting for Sacred Heart? If Toller is not starting then Bench point discrepancy makes sense.

"What defense did Male play on Holmes? And did they try to press them? Did Holmes press Male?" Both team generally played a hybrid between a match-up 2/3 and trapping 2/3. Neither team pressed much at all although Holmes did some 3/4 court trap press in the first half. Best I could tell in second half, they both respected the other team's transition abilities that they didn't full court press. Of course, final score was like 59-49 so defense was being played at a high level.

Male comes out victorious by 10 (I think) but Holmes accounted for themselves extremely well! Two really good teams and fun game to watch!

Yes, both did. Kailee Gish will be Assumption's main pitcher, and she struggled with a foot injury last season. Two years ago as a Sophomore, she shut down Ballard in the Opening Round of the 7th Region tournament 1-0 so she has shown the signs that she can be a strong pitcher. Eastern will probably rely on Brittany Ernst who is hot and cold and hopefully for them has developed more pitches in the off-season. Both teams should have strong offenses and defenses, though, but pitching and pitching depth will definitely be a question-mark.
