Regardless, again for the 3rd time, not slighting Woodford for taking advantage of situations and being a very solid team that I believe is one of the top, if not the top, teams in the state.

I am pretty sure I know who she is and she is a very nice player with great speed. I hope it didn't appear that I was suggesting otherwise. Some of our girls have played with the Sluggers, the Cyclones, the Crush and the River City Outlaws over the last 3 years and I think we played the NKY Stealers a time or two in Northern Kentucky between those 3 teams. Should be a fun season and great talent in this freshmen class across the state!

In first game, Woodford pitched 2 pitchers and I was told Game 2 was its #3. Regardless, a little context, but first let me restate what I already stated that Woodford is very good and will challenge for a state title. In top of first, Assumption has bases loaded with 1 out and have two girls strike out and our fans say awful calls, but to me, I don't care, put the ball into play. Thereafter, in bottom of inning Woodford scores 9 on 7 outs basically as Assumption commits multiple errors and I think Coach will figure out that kids positions. Without the errors, Woodford doesn't score in the inning. Yes, they hit homeruns outside of the 1st inning but who knows how that plays out if it is not already out of hand. Could still happen.

Mercy will be good as always and will challenge in the, fortunately for them, 6th Region and not the 7th Region where they wouldn't have made it out the last 2 years!

Assumption will be fine. Hard to explain the score in a post without putting it into context.

Yes, this year and last year in Elite 8 games and two years ago to Butler in State title game, I believe!

You won't get an argument out of me from what I saw today! Assumption won second game 3-1 with both teams playing a mix of varsity and mainly JV players and both pitched their number 3's.

Yes, Assumption new coach is going to have to figure out lineups and playing positions but she'll get there. Woodford is incredibly tough as well and played like a team that will challenge McCracken County in late May/early June.

Hope we get to play you this year as we have 2-3 girls who are in the "very fast" category. It would be nice to compare talents as softball continues to blossom in the state!

I really enjoyed those Harlan players and fans, both great in every respect as my daughter's Assumption team played them in the Bullitt East Christmas tournament this year. However, just to give a perspective, our Assumption team was probably the 7th to 8th best team in the 7th region, and Harlan beat us by 1 on a last second shot. Brock and Massingill are great players but just to give some frame of reference on how tough it is in some of these regions to get out of them for this great tournament!

Which travel team does the McKinlee Miller kid play for from Campbell County who is the fastest kid in the state? Curious if we've played against them and anxious to see her play.

I would have given you 15 and Assumption and bet my house but those Assumption girls played at a very high level and lost 74-60, which was not indicative of the game until the last 5 minutes of it. Halftime score 39-35 but somehow the Assumption team that brought them back into the game didn't get on the floor together in the second half! Still, all the girls played very hard against a Male team that could very well win the state!

Well if their miracle pitcher is from Southern Indiana, that will raise many red flags and questions to be sure! Regardless, without this new pitcher, they will be tough!

The only correction or comment I have on this list is that Ballard has not been a bridesmaid in 7th region last 2 years as the last two championship games have been between Male and Assumption. Assumption beat Ballard in first round of 7th region last year so Assumption may just be team on the edge of breaking through past Male! I love your passion and your posts!!!! Admittedly, I am not on top of these things night by night so had no idea about Butler losing to Eastern so that says great things for Eastern and questions for Butler. Crazy season and wide open to be sure!

I'm just excited to be talking about softball after several months away and off season workouts going nuts in all directions.

Really like Butler this year although Mercy and Bullitt East will be great as well. Hard to say with Holy Cross and how they will be but they will be solid to be sure! And don't rule out PRP as they have some great players on that squad!

Jordan Ridge is a really nice Sophomore at Assumption. Probably will start at middle infield and has a very nice bat!

Yes accurate! I wasn't at the game but heard Butler is rolling on all cylinders right now! LIT title over Male shows it as well!

As someone else pointed out, it's a great discussion but far too soon to really rank because there are probably at least 10-12 private school girls who don't have the luxury of playing for their high school teams as 7th and 8th graders who still play travel ball and fit right in with the top 12 or 13 you list. It will be interesting to see your list after this coming season if you get to see them play.

I'm always interested in these discussions and enjoy them. I saw someone discussing an outfielder covering ground, and there is no better outfielder in the state than the Center Fielder from Assumption, Sarah Metzger. But as someone pointed out, we should probably do this on a Region by Region basis as there are great players everywhere. Some just get more pub or travel ball street cred than others.

Eastern is going to have a great club also! Great softball in this region, probably best in the state!
