One thing is clear from this game - Beechwood can compete for a state championship. Most people would look at this game and say - "6A vs. 1A - should be an easy victory for the big school." Some people would say - "SK is an elite 6A team - should be a blowout." I say - "some things are true whether you believe them or not."

Ryle played with a great deal of pride, determination, and composure last night. Ryle doesn’t believe in moral victories but the team and community should be very proud of how they played last night.

My initial reaction as well. Great job by the Ryle staff and team recognizing the spot and lining up to spike the ball so quickly. Really impressive - they gave themselves a chance to win the game.

ACC soccer...conference play is a meat grinder.

The replay showed his elbow and the ball touching down at the one-foot line. If he'd stretched the ball out it's 6. Same could be said about the last play. Looked like he didn't get possession cleanly on the sneak and got swallowed up. The spot at the one-foot line was good.

Mmmm... Mmmm... Never mind...

I felt SK was over-rated coming in to this game and I still feel that way. Beechwood is a very good team, but CCH ran over, around, and through Beechwood - better personnel, better schemes, and better execution. It sounds like Beechwood played much better tonight.

Cov Cath is supremely talented but you can only play 5 at a time and realistically in an evenly matched contest you will reduce your rotation to 8 (maybe 9) players for continuity purposes. My point? Cooper might not go 1-12 with Cov Cath but the Jags have enough talent to compete with Cov Cath. McNeil and Hendrix are huge losses, but Sullivan does a great job developing players, and he also does a tremendous job of getting the most out of his role players/bench. Cooper didn't miss a beat last year when McNeil went down with the knee. It's easy to look at Cov Cath's roster and think they have too much for any team in the region. Too easy...Cooper will be right there with them when the games mean the most.

SK will win but it won't be the beat down CCH put on Beechwood.

Says more about Ryle. It would be interesting to see how many senior night games PC plays - I know of at least 2.

Good thing that Cooper and Cov Cath will be playing at larger venues this year...the player names change but the high level of game competition will remain the same.

With all the discussion of QB change and national anthem protocol I thought they'd be starting a Kaepernick.

I think being scheduled as a senior night opponent in soccer is the equivalent of being the football team's opponent for homecoming.

Cov Cath is due for a lapse in concentration - it happens with HS kids, especially after a strong start against a very tough schedule. All this said - it won't happen against Highlands. This could be a beat down of epic proportions.

You asked what these schools offered besides athletics. I responded - “better academics outcomes.” Which is true - and meaningful to many parents. The combination of academics and athletics is undoubtedly a draw to students and parents.

Look at the test scores, academic ratings and college placement stats for Beechwood (and Highlands for that matter). Boone County Schools benchmark against themselves - they are not on the same level as the incorporated school districts. For a child who is looking for outstanding academics AND athletics Beechwood is a great fit. Likely CCH compares favorably to Beechwood academically - athletically that school is establishing itself as outstanding across the board. I understand the Catholic education creates a unique consideration - nonetheless CCH is undeniably a destination school. Many long-standing Boone County residents seem to be satisfied with the overall experience Boone County Schools are offering. Others drive 30-45 minutes to Ft. Mitchell or Park Hills each morning to drop their kid off. And those kids are just athletes.

Sounds like DeSales is fighting - but they are simply over-matched. Just hope BG doesn't show up in Park Hills tonight - could be reminiscent of the rumble scene from "Anchorman."
