  1. RockPride--you have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA what you are talking about. This attitude that you have displayed about a person that you have probably never even spoke to is the one of the reasons why a lot of people HATE private schools (and the people that support them). Your comments are out of line. Did you not read what I wrote previously? He said that as a compliment to the private schools. Again--for some of you--it is a lot easier to ASSUME that Tom is going in a certain direction--as opposed to taking a couple of minutes and thinking, "hey, maybe Tom is saying that the BEST teams are going to win either way". Did it ever occur to you that Tom was making a backhanded comment directed to the coaches in this state who wanted to go to 6 because they thought it would be easier to win a championship? You don't know what he does, how he does it--and especially WHAT HE THINKS about certain things. I have known Tom for the vast majority of my life--and I have NEVER heard him make an excuse about anything. He may try to give you guys something funny to read--but you need to back up and regroup when it comes to the making excuses comments. He is honest to a fault. Again, I find it to be a flat out joke that you even went in this direction. As I previously stated, Tom worked most of his childhood to PAY HIS OWN WAY (not the Mommy and Daddy paying a kids way.) I mean, a person who came from a tough neighborhood in Philly -- doing without -- just so he could go to school (without being shot at every day) at a private, catholic high school, and have a chance to make something of himself. So before you decide to share, you may want to get your facts straight.
  2. Whatever you say, Wildcat. This is pretty typical/symbolic of just about every post that you don't agree with me on. And that is cool. I find it amusing that you (and a certain few) say that you know for a fact that certain things happened or didn't happen. That is pretty funny considering the fact that I haven't seen you (unless I have you mixed up with someone else--but I know I don't) at any coaches meetings lately. And even if you think that they are complaining after the fact---what does it matter? You know what--sometimes--you have to pick and choose your battles. You vote--you let people know where you stand--and move on from there. The coaches of NKY don't have to answer to you, theguru or anyone else (with the exception of their boss/bosses). So--in my "noble" opinion--it sounds like you are complaining on the same level as your perception of the NKY coaches. Back to Tom Stellman--if you honestly believe that people should NOT try to interpet what they read in the paper . . . . . I have to laugh. Great idea. Take everything for face value--and lets continue the dumbing down of America by encouraging others not to think! The funny thing is--there are plenty of people who know exactly what Tom meant. But instead of taking it in the direction--it was passed off as something other than what it was--simply to try and spark more conversation about a topic that certain people are mad about. I am sure that everyone can come up with something better than this. The worst thing is--I don't see you guys blasting the teams from the other parts of the state that pushed this to begin with. Basically, you slapping the coaches of NKY in the face for something that you agree on. Who cares if you don't think that they pushed hard enough or that you guys think they are complaining after the fact. You don't know their motives.
  3. Ha, ha! Don't forget--I am sure he is/was laughing that goofy laugh at the same time!
  4. Which brings us back to the original point--if anyone here actually believes that Tom Stellman cares about being in 6A against the private powers--I just want to say thanks for giving me the belly laugh that I needed today! I would be willing to say that if you asked Coach Tom what he really wanted to do--he would say "get rid of all classes and have one true champion" I am a little surprised at the direction that people are going with this. Sometimes--I get the impression that Coach Tom is setting a few of you up--simply for his enjoyment (because it is pretty obvious that perception is definitely NOT reality if you actually talk to the man to see what he meant with his comments). But--I got a laugh out of the reaction. Ha, ha, ha! Todays society = why waste time thinking about the comment vs ASSUMING you automatically understand. I honestly figured that some of you could figure this one out (especially when the entire article pointed in one direction--not to mention the 18-0 vote).
  5. Come on guru . . . . . Are you bored or something? It doesn't take a genius to see what Coach Tom is talking about . . . .(which is 100% in line with most of your points about 6 classes AND the public/private debate. What I don't understand here is--if the NKY coaches were 18-0 AGAINST 6 classes--why are you missing the point that Coach Tom is making? For those who can't figure it out--I will clue you in-- It appears to me (and I have a feeling that I know him well enough to understand)--that Coach Tom is pointing to what he thinks this deal is REALLY about--and it isn't six classes. I would venture to say that Coach Tom is saying that the best teams are the best teams--and it doesn't matter if you water things down by having 6 classes. The best teams are the best teams--AND for him--PUBLIC/PRIVATE has nothing to do with it. (Again--you may want to talk to him before you "ASSUME" what this quote means). The problem here is--some people are a little too mixed up over what you would term to be "cute" quips in the newspaper. But if you would put a little thought into things--you would see that he is addressing the issues in his own special way. And before anyone else goes half cocked about what he really means--keep in mind--Tom Stellman went to a private, catholic high school. His entire family--and Tom himself--worked EXTREMELY HARD to get that opportunity. But--I guess we live in a time where it is a lot easier to read something in the paper--and skim over it--and think "another cute quip from Tom . . . .ha, ha, ha!" without taking 3 seconds to get past the normal thought process. Anyone who actually KNOWS Tom Stellman doesn't ever question the fact that the works his posterior off--trying to win a state championship. If he is guilty of anything--it is taking TOO MUCH OF THAT LOAD ON HIMSELF! Seriously--are you just messing with us guru?
  6. Cool. I had actually heard it from someone--then I looked at the NCC website and didn't see his name listed as one of the coaches. He obviously does a pretty good job for NCC. It is good for them that he is still around.
  7. Ha, ha! The quote is classic! And you are correct (and I need to be more specific)--Belfry actually has the ability to control the ball in this situation. And to be even more directed--I think that this becomes more critical with a new QB for NCC. (Now--I don't think that will hold NCC back by the end of the year--but it "could" be a factor in this game--because a team like Belfry can hold the ball so long that it forces a very real sense of urgency on a new QB). In regard to your rivalry comment--I see what you mean . . . . but it still plays out the right way--for instance--2003--NCC beat Beechwood during the regular season and Beechwood won in the playoffs (that is the last time it happened)--remember--Beechwood was missing 7 starters and 2 others that played a lot. People can say whatever they want about last year (and it would be justified to a certain extent--but I have a feeling that part of your post would have been true--I am sure that you know what I mean!) Either way--I think that this has the makings of a great game. Personally, I don't want to show any disrespect for either team. But--after seeing both teams play more times that I would like to admit--they BOTH have the potential to cause each other issues--and I think that Belfry is deserving (because of their players and staff) of more credit than what they are getting.
  8. I agree with the last part--it will be a great game for both teams. If people were saying the same thing about last years game with Pikeville--it wasn't me . . . . (at least--I hope not). And this year IS different for the following reasons: 1. IMO--Belfry is better than Pikeville 2. Belfry is a different type of team than Pikeville 3. NCC--has some inexperience at key positions--#1 being QB--this will be a great game to get through some growing pains--but there will be some pain--for sure (and that is true for both teams this early). 4. I have heard that NCC has a new D-Coordinator--(not sure if this is 100% true--so bear with me)--if it is--the Bone (as Belfry runs it) will be "interesting" to game plan against. 5. Belfry has big game experience. Pikeville didn't. I think that Belfry isn't going to be enamored or shellshocked the way that Pikeville quickly became. 6. Belfry is very fundamentally sound--which is something that NCC has issues with (offensively and defensively). 7. Belfry has one of the best coaching staffs in the state (and that is the truth). They will have a game plan (offensively and defensively) that is designed to win the game--just like NCC. Again--I am not saying that NCC won't win this game. I have a great deal of respect for their program. They are a great team. I don't expect any different this year. But Belfry's has played just as good of football (IMO--and I have broken down a lot of football the last few years) as NCC. I just think that right now, NCC has a couple question marks that need to be answered before they roll or even win this game. That could be answered in the preseason scrimmages--or after this game. But--I promise you--this shouldn't be a foregone conclusion that NCC wins this game.
  9. You gotta love the Trading Places reference--I respect your opinion, Sticky--but I can't say that I agree with the second part. Beechwood/NCC has become a rivarly in the last 5-6 years. And usually--the better team wins (with a few exceptions). And that is also true with CCH/Highlands. (Again--with a few exceptions). It comes down to the fact that the better team wins the vast majority of the time. It may not be the most talented team--but the "better" team. The rivalry angle is something that I don't buy into--because that goes along the lines that the best team doesn't win as much as they should. On topic--This is a very interesting game. Gametime--I love to read your work--but I think I would avoid meeting any Belfry fan after the game--because this one may turn out differently than you think. If Belfry can capitalize on NCC's lack of experience--and play their normal brand of hard nose defense--they have a just as good of a chance to win this game. I know that NCC is good--but again--being "nearsighted Northern Kentuckians" is not going to help NCC (or their fans) in this game. If Belfry controls the ball--they win. It will force the new NCC qb into rushing the passing game--which doesn't work for NCC (they are best when they can use the run to set up the pass--as opposed to vice versa--like most people think). Not to mention--they are probably one of the more physical teams that NCC is going to see this year.
  10. I don't think that any of us are forgetting about it. I just think that some of us (with an unbiased viewpoint) have seen Belfry play before--and know that they have a few kids coming back as well. NCC may very well win this game--but in my humble opinion--this is a very dangerous game for NCC if Belfry has any success running the ball at all. (Ball control could hurt NCC's momentum with a new QB. Especially considering the fact that this will be the first game for a new NCC qb (and I am aware that all available NCC qb's do have more than just a little football skill). The offense line will help NCC--but Belfry is going to play solid, fundamental ball control football. Belfry has the potential to rough NCC up a little bit. From past dealings--they are a pretty physical team--playing pretty close to home. I just don't see this as the definite domination that my little brother mak sees . . . . . . Regardless--I think it will be a great game to start out the year. And it is a definite step up in scheduling for NCC.
  11. Mak-- you are digging quite the hole for yourself today. You may actually want to do a little investigation on Belfry before you make comments like this. I rememeber the last time that we had a very balanced offense--that played against a team that was 95% run. 500 yards rushing later--we got destroyed in the state championship. This is going to be a very good game. And considering the fact that NCC is going to have to run the ball more this year--I say that it is Belfry's game to lose . . . . .
  12. Mayfield fans said the same thing last year (I looked it up!) All 4 of the "big 4" need to be included--just like every other year. And to be honest--NCC is the team that has only "recently" joined the big 3. (Sorry mak--but the truth is the truth--Mayfield earned their spot a log time ago).
  13. That was exactly what I was thinking . . . . . . . . . I still can't figure out how LCA was more talented. They had some talent--but not more than NCC. The best team won--and they did it without a great deal of effort.
  14. I would like to see all of the people who thought that LCA was a better team than NCC . . . . . . . . . . even talent wise--it wasn't close. Line: NCC QB: NCC RB: LCA (but--I don't even agree with that) WR's: Draw DL: NCC LB's: Draw--leaning towards NCC DB's: NCC IF I remember correctly--it wasn't close. Back on topic--it will be interesting to see how many yards Vicars ends up with. What people don't realize--is that NCC did a really good job of disguising the fact that they were a running team last season (the beauty of the long ball). Off the top of my head (and I know that I am pretty close)--NCC was approximately 65% run/35% pass (that is for the entire year--not counting the state championship or semi final games). Naturally, Vicars carried the load. I would expect more of the same--but teams will be able to play a little different defensively this year--especially at the beginning of the season. (Which could end up helping or hurting NCC in the long run). I don't think that it will be such a mystery this year. If they try to force the ball to open up the run--that is where they will come into issues. If they embrace the fact that they are more of a running team--I think that they will be hard to deal with. The LCA more talented than NCC thing was pretty interesting . . . . . .
  15. I think that it is great that Brossart is shooting so high. I will reluctantly other a little bit of advice--you may want to think about playing your first game--then again--maybe your first practice before you begin to make statements like: "Had we had a program in place at that time there is no doubt that we could have. Could we compete at the top of the Class "A" football ranks this year with previous training - it goes without saying - we certainly could." I am not real sure what is better when you start up a program--confidence or a realistic thought process. But you are not going to help your (Brossarts) cause by making statements like this. All this will lead to is some consistent beatings by the big 2 . . . . .
  16. I understand what you are saying--and agree with most of it. But honestly--I like the fact that he was actually human--and possibly viewed the game in "human" terms. Is JT (or even the KHSAA) responsible for the officials? Officially? I guess. They are certified as officials by the KHSAA. But nearly every coach that I have ever worked with considers them to be independent contractors that work with the KHSAA. I would say that they feel that way because a school pays for the officials for a game--not the KHSAA. Now--the KHSAA may have paid for the officials at this game--but are they under the employ of the KHSAA? Yes--basically as contractual labor. But to that point--why is that when a coach or a player is suspended for misconduct, not following the rules, etc--their name goes on a list that is published on the KHSAA website? (Because they fall under the rules of the KHSAA). How many times have you seen an officials name on the KHSAA website for being suspended? NEVER . . . . . . And I seriously doubt that the KHSAA has any disciplinary powers over officials, umpires, etc. Again--my better sense tells me that things should have been handled differently--but as a coach--it is good to know that an assistant commissioner is, at the very least, seeing things that I didn't normally think that they even pay attention to.
  17. I have to disagree with you there, partner. His employees may be the umps--but HIS EMPLOYERS per se--are the KIDS on the field. There are certain officials, refs, etc who try to make their selves part of the game (not necessarily the case here)--part of his job is to police that. And if the officials, refs, etc are not doing a good job--they should not be above reproach. Is there a better way to do it? Maybe--but as a coach--there are numerous officials who do a poor job--and don't have to answer for it. Instead--they pass blame to the coach, players, fans and refuse to take responsiblity for their actions. I would much rather have a commissioner who speaks the truth as opposed to blindly supporting people. To say that he should have stood up for this group of umps--whether they were poor or not is the exact thing that gets public employees in hot water. No one--and I mean no one in this situation should blindly stand up for any official, coach, fan, etc that did a poor job. I would agree that it could have been handled differently. But again--as a coach--we have very little recourse against poor officials (and I understand why that is). In my opinion--Tackett's stock went up if he really said that.
  18. As for Mayfield--don't you guys have some type of indoor practice facility? If so--it is kind of hard for me to understand how you guys can't do more with the War Memorial.
  19. Thanks for the updates, Bird. Is this actually Muth?
  20. Oh thank you Chrisitian County for letting us win the game . . . Topper--get over it. The better TEAM won. Quit making excuses. Subing players out is part of the high school game. Seriously--your comments are old.
  21. It is a good thing that you aren't talking about football . . . . . . . . Good luck to Beechwood. It sounds like a win against Christian County would still make the people from Harrison County mad. That is reason enough to win all by its self.
  22. Actually--it wasn't over until the 3rd quarter. It was 7 to 0 at the half. And the score was right before the half.
  23. Ha, ha! I would think that you would have a better chance of seeing Tom Cruise at the Dayton Golf Outing. That isn't Coach Y's cup of tea! This is what I know: 1. He interviewed on 05/24/2006 for a PE teaching job. 2. There were a few really good candidates besides him. 3. Football was spoken about (as an assistant) but it wasn't a formal conversation.
  24. Where did I say that you did say it would be a blowout? (I could understand if I had put one of your posts in as a quote--but I obviously didn't). But--if you take a few minutes and read what some others have written--you will see that more than a few have predicted a blowout. As far as whether or not the WEST db's can cover the East . . . . . that is your opinion. The only thing that I will say is that there are some coaches who are smart enough to come up with the right coverages when they are at a disadvantage (which again--isn't my opinion). The East may have every stud in NKY, but like I said before--you can throw all of the "givens" out in an allstar situation. There are no definites.
